Charity Corner

2018 - Perk Shop Guide

This year's Charity Corner introduced the Perk Shop, which is very similar to the boons that you may choose from if your team wins one of the biweekly Obelisk fights. Currently, there does not appear to be a particular time that this perk shop will close. (However, we suspect that if Charity Corner returns next year, it'll be a good idea to have redeemed your points by then in case it closes and resets, like the Altador Cup prize shops.)

Below is a guide to each of the perks, with a few opinion pieces on whether each one is worth redeeming.

For a list of the other prizes you should have received by now, see the bottom of the 2018 Charity Corner guide.

Notable Achievement

Description: Your pet will be showcased on the homepage for an entire day for your generous contributions.

Cost: 10,000 points

Worth it? If you'd like to see your Neopet shown on the homepage, then yes! If not, this has no financial value.

Burp!

Description: All the pets in your account will be fed and full for an entire week. This perk can be applied thrice.

Cost: 1,000 points

Worth it? Considering that Omelettes and Jellies are given away for free, you're simply paying for the time it takes for you to feed your pets—so not worth it in our opinion. Not to mention, you can book a stay at the Neolodge for a mere 35 NP per week. You surely paid over 1,000 NP to receive the points required for this perk.

Limited Edition

Description: Allows you to convert any one of your pets into a limited edition species of your choosing.

Cost: 5,000 points

Details: The pet you choose will keep the same colour for the new species you select. It's currently unknown what happens if the new species does not have your existing pet's colour. You can choose from one of the following species:

  • Chomby
  • Cybunny
  • Hissi
  • Jetsam
  • Kiko
  • Koi
  • Lutari
  • Poogle
  • Ruki
  • Tonu

Worth it? Check the price of morphing potions for the species you wish to convert to. In some cases, such as Poogles, it may be cheaper to use a morphing potion. However, the real value from this perk comes from the fact that you get to keep the existing paint job for your pet. So, for example, a Desert Aisha converted to Lutari will become a Desert Lutari.

Heads up! If you choose to convert a Neopet whose colour does not exist for the new Neopet species (i.e. you convert a Biscuit Kougra into a Lutari—Biscuit Lutaris don't exist at time of writing), then a random colour will be chosen, and sometimes the colour does not exist for the Neopet. For example, a Lemon Lutari has been created with this perk, which effectively breaks your Neopet.

Healing Hoopla!

Description: Restore your active pet's hit points and get them ready to take on another challenger. This perk can be applied thrice.

Cost: 500 points

Worth it? The Healing Springs can do this for free, not to mention there are various reasonably priced healing potions that can do the job as well.

Bigger is Better

Description: Allows you to upgrade the size of your inventory by 5 slots. This perk can be applied twice.

Cost: 500 points

Details: This perk allows you to increase the current inventory slot limit from 50 to 55. And if you apply it a second time, up to 60 slots. You may only get up to 60 slots. The Quick Stock limit will remain at 70 items.

Worth it? This perk is worth it if you frequently carry a high number of items and run into the "cannot carry more than 50 items!" error message. If you apply the perk twice, you'll end up with 60 available slots. Otherwise, this may not have much personal value.

Novel Experience

Description: Experience a new way of playing without ads for a period of 5 days.

Cost: 500 points

Worth it? If you have Premium—definitely not worth it. If you have any sort of Ad-Block installed (and you should!)—definitely not worth it.

Bonus Feature

Description: Look out for the multiplier sticker on games to boost your Neopoints. Once activated, this perk will be valid for 24 hours.

Cost: 100 points

Details: This perk will double the NP you win from flash games. However, it only doubles up to a maximum of 1,000 NP (before your Space Faerie Charm may be applied). In other words, if you already score enough points to earn 1,000 NP from a game, this perk will have no effect. (Or, if you earn 950 NP, you'll only get bumped up to 1,000 NP.) If your Space Faerie Charm activates, it will double the amount that resulted from the perk.

Worth it? If you don't play Flash games—not worth it. If you play Flash games and regularly score the maximum 1,000 NP from each play—not worth it. This perk is only worth it if you plan on putting some time into playing games and scoring enough to score at least 500 NP each play. (Which will vary from game to game!) It is nice that this perk is available for 24 hours, though, which means you can activate it in the afternoon, play a set of games to take advantage, and then play them again the next morning before the 24 hour timer is up.

Bring Back the Old Days

Description: Is there a site theme you wish you had? Here's your chance to turn back the clock and get a site theme you don't have. Make sure to check out the list of available site themes in the FAQs.

Cost: 1 point

Details: This perk randomly awards TWO (it'll only mention one, but actually award two) of the site themes below. It will only award a theme that you do not already have. (You can check what you have from your Site Preferences.)

Below are the themes available from this perk that are currently obtainable in some fashion:

  • Neopets Purple - already available for free
  • Valentine's Day - available yearly
  • Winter Holiday - available yearly
  • Haunted Woods - available yearly
  • Festival of Neggs - last available in 2017 (will likely be available for this year's Festival)
  • Daily Dare - last available in 2016 (may be available for this year's Daily Dare)
  • Daily Dare: Chadley - last available in 2017 (may be available for this year's Daily Dare)
  • Destroyed Faerie Festival - available to all when the Wraith Resurgence began

Below are the themes available from this perk that are retired:

  • Monster Hunting - retired
  • Mysterious Obelisk - retired (this was the plot theme—not the biweekly Obelisk themes)
  • Krawk Island - retired
  • The Faeries' Ruin - retired
  • Atlas of the Ancients - retired
  • Petpet Protection League - retired
  • Tale of Woe - retired
  • Cryodake's Gaze - retired
  • Qasalan - retired
  • Curse of Maraqua - retired
  • Habitarium - retired
  • Treasure Keepers - retired
BEFORE YOU REDEEM: Be sure to use our Site Themes guide to grab the Neopets Purple theme if you haven't already. This is a possible theme, but it's available today for simply visiting a page on Neopets.

You may also want to hold out on redeeming this perk until the Festival of Neggs arrives this year, as that theme will likely be given out again if you're missing it.

Worth it? It's only 1 point, so definitely worth it if you want a simple gamble! Obviously, you'll end up better if you get a site theme that's properly retired rather than one of the annually available ones you may be missing.

In a New Avatar

Description: Get an avatar you don't have from a select list of avatars. Make sure to check out the list of available avatars in the FAQs.

Cost: 50 points

Details: Like the site themes above, your account will be awarded one avatar you're missing. The catch, of course, is that the list of available avatars is limited to essentially just Clickable avatars, which are obtained by simply visiting a certain page on Neopets. You should have all of these before redeeming this perk.

The exception to this is the Mutant Graveyard of Doom II and Ruki - Mummified avatars, despite not being clickable avatars. (The II avatar comes from playing Mutant Graveyard of Doom II and the Mummified avatar comes from owning a Halloween Ruki.)

BEFORE YOU REDEEM: Be sure to use our list of Clickable avatars (and our checklist tool) to ensure you have every avatar listed as "Clickable". (In addition to the Mutant Graveyard of Doom II and Ruki - Mummified avatars.)

You should also ensure that you have the Emo Usuki avatar if you do not wish to have that one awarded. (It's an avatar that can be taken away from your account.)

Worth it? Since it's only 50 points—yes, assuming you did your due diligence and obtained all of the avatars we mentioned above. This perk is not worth it if you pay 50 points for a clickable avatar, but it'll be worth it if you can get the second Royal Korbat avatar with it! (Or possibly the Mutant Graveyard of Doom II avatar if you're not good at that game.)

The only worthwhile avatars from this perk.

Dragon Drama

Description: Collect your redeem codes for the Mystery Dragon Egg Chest in School of Dragons. Look out for the Redeem button in the settings to use the codes. View this Help Page to walk you through the steps! (Note: Code redemption is not currently supported for games installed through Window App Store.) This perk can be applied 5 times.

Cost: 100 points

Worth it? Worthless, unless you play School of Dragons. (This is a cross-promotional perk for another JumpStart-created game.)

Spiked!

Description: Allows you to spike up your active pet's Battledome Stats and add to either strength, movement, intelligence, health, level or defence. This perk can be applied twice.

Cost: 1,000 points

Details: This perk increases one of the six stats listed above, chosen at random. This increase is +10 for all of the stats except level, which is +2.

When initially released, some Neopets were healed 10 HP rather than having their their maximum HP increased by +10, which was a glitch.

Worth it? If you have a high-level pet, this could be an affordable way to train them. Given the random selection of the stat to be increased and the fact that this perk can only be redeemed twice, however, its benefits are incredibly limited and up to chance.

Colour it Wild!

Description: Allows you to get your pet zapped with exclusive Lab Ray colours.

Cost: 10,000 points

Details: This perk will allow you to select one of your Neopets and choose from a list of colours (that have been released for that Neopet) that you may paint it. Colours not available at the Lab Ray are not available with this perk (not available: Baby, Magma, Pirate, Plushie, Quiguki, Royal, Usuki, and Ice Boris).

Worth it? If you've been longing to paint your Neopet a difficult to obtain colour, then this may be worth it for you. If your pets are already perfect, you can safely skip this one.

Random Acts

Description: Guarantees a positive random event every day for an entire week. Make sure to log in everyday from the day you avail this to receive all 7. This perk can be applied twice.

Cost: 5,000 points

Details: The following positive random events have been spotted as part of this perk:

  • A Random Event that grants a section of the Secret Laboratory Map.
  • The Pant Devil's Evil Twin grants a r99 Morphing Potion.
  • Your Neopet finds up to 50,000 Neopoints while out for a stroll.

  • A Scorchio grants you a r101-103 TCG Card.
  • You find a normal Codestone on the floor.
  • An Acara grants you 50 NC.
  • A Sea Captain gives you a piece of the Treasure Map.
  • Dr. Sloth grants you a Transmogrification Potion.

  • Jacko grants you a r101 Paint Brush.
  • You find a Christmas Paint Brush lying in the snow.
  • A Chia grants you a r62-98 Neovian Clothing item.
  • A Chia grants you a r99 Chia Pop.
  • You are granted a Ghostkerchief.

  • A Faerie grants you a random ice negg.
  • Gordos grants you a r92-98 Stamp.
  • A red codestone falls from the sky.
  • Balthazar grants you a Weak Bottled Faerie.
  • Jhudora grants you a Poison Jelly Eraser, Poison Snowball, Poisonous Snowflake, Poison Tipped Dagger, Poison Snowball Wand, or Poison Muffin.
  • You are granted the Sloth! avatar (you can get this Random Event if you already have the avatar).
  • Vira is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have her unlocked).
  • The Black Pteri is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked).
  • The Down For Maintainence Pteri is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked).
  • You are granted a random Snowball and the Snow Beast is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked).
  • Meuka turns an item in your inventory into a Snot Burger and is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked).
  • The Pant Devil steals an item in your inventory and is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked).
  • The Shadow Usul steals an item in your inventory and is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have her unlocked).
  • Boochi either misses, or hits your Neopet, and Boochi is unlocked as a Battledome challenger (you can get this Random Event if you already have him unlocked). Although the text of the Random Event can say your Neopet was turned Baby, this does not actually happen.
  • The Golden Pteri grants you up to 7,344 Neopoints. If you do not have any Pteris on your account, it does nothing.
  • A Jawshell eats an item from your inventory and replaces it with a Shimmery Seagrass.
  • The Ghost Lupe restores the hitpoints of all your Neopets. If they were already at full health, this Random Event does nothing.
  • A Wocky gives you a lottery ticket, even if you have already bought your allotment of 20 for the day.
  • A Nimmo gives you 6 normal codestones.

In addition, some Random Events are available that do not grant anything:

  • A Fungus Ball explodes and you lose some Neopoints.
  • Captain Scarblade laughs.
  • Isca swims past.
  • The ghost of Coltzan appears.
  • Lawyerbot appears.
  • The Mark of Ta-Kutep burns.

Worth it? Not quite sure yet, we'll compile a list of Random Events as we come across them.

Bank Bribery

Description: Raise your interest rate at the bank by 3%. Note: The Charity Corner 'Bank Bribery' perk does not stack with the Skirmish boon of the same name, which leaves you free to choose another boon should you be a member of the winning faction at the Battleground of the Obelisk.

Cost: 5,000 points

Worth it? Yes—most likely worth it! This perk will boost your bank account's interest rate by 3% for an entire year. As an example, if you had 10,000,000 NP in the bank (which gives you 12.5% interest), you'll be bumped up to 15.5% interest, which will give you an extra 300,000 NP for the year if you collect your interest daily. Assuming you did not purchase expensive items to donate during the event, this perk is worth it.

Glam Up

Description: Get 300 NC and finally buy those clothing items you've been longing for.

Cost: 10,000 points

Worth it? This perk is worth $3 USD in Neocash, which can get you 1-2 Neocash items if you had your eye on anything in particular.

Cheaper by the Dozen

Description: Circumvent the old rule at the stock market and purchase stocks selling for as low as 10 NP. Note: The Charity Corner 'Cheaper by the Dozen' perk does not stack with the Skirmish boon of the same name, which leaves you free to choose another boon should you be a member of the winning faction at the Battleground of the Obelisk.

Cost: 5,000 points

Worth it? Only if you play the Neopian Stock Market, or are willing to get into it. If you do not play it regularly, then this perk may be too much extra effort to manage for a year. If you do play regularly, then this perk has the potential to be great! (It will essentially add 5,000 NP to every 1,000 shares you sell if you purchase the shares at 10 NP each. And since you can purchase 1,000 shares daily, the potential value is over 1,800,000 NP.)
