Notable Exclusions

Some words you might expect to be words of the day seemingly are not. In particular, 13 Neopet species are excluded: Bori, Eyrie, Gnorbu, Ixi, Koi, Lutari, Quiggle, Shoyru, Skeith, Techo, Tuskaninny, Vandagyre, and Xweetok all have never been Word of the Day. Meercas are technically represented twice, once typoed as Meecra.

Many colours (too many to list out here!) are also excluded. For example, of the four basic Neopet colours, only Green is included!

Some words may also have been removed; old Editorial questions have implied that Dung and Antidisestablishmentarianism were at one point Words of the Day, though no longer seem to be possible. Alternately, the Word of the Day may have been manually selected by TNT at one time, but is now automatic from a set list.

Suggestions

The page contains a box to submit suggestions for new words to include. Submitting one will produce a confirmation message on the page that your suggestion "has been added" but this is seemingly only for show.

It is unknown if these submissions are still monitored by TNT; based on the lack of new words appearing here in several years, we would guess not!

Prizes

The page also states that "if you use the word of the day in captions or storytelling competition entries, you may be eligible for a random prize." However, this no longer seems to be the case, if it ever even was!

Relationship to Neopets Dictionary

The Word of the Day appears to be completely separate from the Neopets dictionary that is used to determine valid words for some Neopets games such as Word Poker.

There are thousands of words in the Neopian dictionary that are not possible as Word of the Day, and there are actually several possible Words of the Day that are not even in the dictionary! These include: Adam, Altador, Angelpuss, Balthazar, Booger, Brucicle, Candychan, Codestone, Drackonack, Esophagor, Faellie, Gadgadsbogen, Gimmemypetpetback, Maraquan, Marblemen, Meecra, Meowclops, Moltenore, Monoceraptor, Monocerous, Paintbrush, Neo, Ogrin, Ona, Ruki, Snowickle, Spardel, Splendorous, Taelia, Tigersquash, Transmogrification, Turmaculus, and Zurroball.
