Puzzles of the Past
On April 28, 2026, Puzzles of the Past was introduced as a part of the launch of Chapter 12. Users were required to play through three different puzzles, at various points in the chapter, in order to proceed. At the start of Chapter 13, it became available as a daily activity.
Puzzles of the Past does not count as a game played for the Quest Log game task. It will also not appear in your High Score list as a game played.
How to Play
Playing the game is fairly simple—you just put together the puzzle! The good news is that unlike puzzles in real life, all of these puzzle pieces are automatically in the correct orientation—you will not need to, and cannot, rotate any of the pieces from how they appear in your puzzle bank to the lefthand side.
The final picture that you're working on can be viewed at any time by clicking the "preview" button.
You can save your progress at any point by clicking the "pause" button and selecting the option to save and suspend your game; after doing so, you can navigate away from the page and return to the game to resume your progress (or start a new puzzle if desired). You must save your progress before navigating away from the page if you wish to resume later; otherwise, your progress will be lost.
Puzzle pieces are moved by dragging and dropping them onto your board. They can also be stacked on top of one another, or returned to your bank using the "Reset Loose Pieces" button. You cannot return individual pieces, you must return all loose pieces together, so pay attention to what pieces you choose to drag onto your board.
Once pieces that belong together are matched up, they will "snap" in place and become locked together. These groupings can then be moved around the board together, as one large piece.
A counter above the puzzle bank will tell you how many pieces remain in your bank, as opposed to on your board. The counter at the bottom of the puzzle tracks how many pieces you have successfully linked together.
Tip! For the larger puzzles, it can help to play them on fullscreen mode so you can more clearly see the pieces and their details.
Pieces of a Shared Sky (50 pieces)
The first puzzle is titled Pieces of a Shared Sky and consists of 50 pieces. It is unlocked on Chapter 12, page 1. It features Ozzy, also known as the Grey Painter, gesturing towards Faerieland amongst the clouds.
Mind of Thorns (100 pieces)
The second puzzle is titled Mind of Thorns and consists of 100 pieces. It is unlocked on Chapter 12, page 30. It features Vira and Drakara, lurking from within a Void rift.
Someone Who Styx by You (200 pieces)
The third puzzle is titled Someone Who Styx by You and consists of 200 pieces. It is unlocked on Chapter 12, page 35. It features the goodest boy ever—Styx!
Free Play Mode
After each puzzle has been successfully completed for the first time, it will be unlocked for replay on the main game page. You can replay each puzzle as many times as you would to upgrade your trophy, earn the avatar, or just have fun! There is no limit to how many times you can replay a puzzle.
Rewards
As of the start of Chapter 13 on May 5, 2026, you can play the game twice per day for a prize. You can play additional games but only your first two daily plays will yield these rewards. All Neopians can play once automatically, then watch an ad for a second play, though active Premium subscribers may skip the ad and go right into a second play. (From May 5 to 7, active Premium subscribers would be able to play and receive prizes a seemingly infinite number of times, but this was fixed on May 7.)
Plot points are no longer awarded and you will only receive one item prize from the following pool per game, even if you are a Premium subscriber, despite the notice on the end screen saying double prizes are awarded. You will also receive a small amount of Neopoints.

Previous Rewards
Each puzzle was initially played through while progressing through Chapter 12 of the story, from April 27 through May 4, 2026. After successfully completing puzzles 1, 2, and 3 within the chapter, you would receive 10 plot points each—or double if using a Plot Points Fortune Cookie, or none if the chapter point maximum had already been reached.
You would receive an item prize from the list above (or 2 if you had an active Premium subscription) for your first completion of each puzzle per day. In other words, you could receive prizes a total of 3 times per day—once on puzzle #1, once on puzzle #2, and once on puzzle #3. Subsequent attempts on the same puzzle would not award prizes, it was only for your first completion of each difficulty level each day.
Replaying any puzzle before completing an initial play of all the puzzles would affect your ability to earn the maximum number of prizes. You must have played each puzzle once, in any order, before attempting to replay any of them, or you would not be able to earn all available prizes.
