On September 8, 2025, Attack on Altador was introduced in Chapter 10.
Attack on Altador does not count as a game played for the Quest Log game task. It will also not appear in your High Score list as a game played.
How to Play
You are protecting Altador, which is represented by the castle in the lower left corner. Inside Altador are 50 boxes, which the game calls "resources." Various shades will spawn from the two void rifts: one in the upper left corner and one over the right side.
You can add various tiles to fight the shades using the menu on the right side. Simply tap on the menu, then tap on the field where you want to place it.
Blocks Shades can't go through these.
Archery Attacks shades with arrows.
Flatrock Attacks shades with rocks.
Scarecrow Attracts shades away from Altador; they can destroy these.
The game consists of 5 waves of shades, each wave increasingly large. Your goal is to defeat the shades using a strategic placement of tiles. You can earn more tools to place or upgrade more tiles as you defeat shades.
Before each wave, you will have 15 seconds of peace to place tiles. Then, shades will begin to spawn, though you can continue to build and upgrade tiles at any time, even while the shades are present. Once you place a tile, you cannot move it; however, you can remove it for a full refund of the tool value.
The shades will attempt to ransack Altador by taking away its 50 resources back to the void rifts. Once a shade reaches Altador, it will head back to the rift it came out of. If the resource makes it all the way back to the rift, it becomes lost; if a shade is defeated first, the resource will stay there until another shade can pick it up.
You win the game by defeating all the shades before they take all your resources. You lose the game if the shades take all 50 of your resources back into the rifts!
Enemies
There are three different types of enemies you will encounter, which are all different types of shades. Each one is worth a different amount of points for defeating.
Voidling 1 point
Void Prowler 2 points
Sefira 3 points
You will encounter an increasing number of enemies and a different count of each in each wave as you progress through the game. The amount of enemies is:

For a completed game, you will defeat a total of 136 enemies and score 178 points.
Strategy
There are many valid strategies to winning the game, but this is the one we have found especially effective without being too slow!
Start the game by placing a stack of five blocks vertically next to Altador, with a scarecrow just on the other side of it. Then, place a line of five archery up toward the top of the rift, with one extra at the bottom:
Start with the blocks and scarecrow, then add the archery.
The effect is it creates a hallway on the left side the shades will try to reach Altador through, but they will turn around upon reaching the blocks as they become distracted by the scarecrow! All the while, your archery is blasting them.
As you get more tools from defeating shades, continue to build up the archery section until you have a 2x5 section of them:
It may not look like it, but this is peak performance!
Once you have your 2x5 archery layout, begin to upgrade their range, prioritizing fully upgrading the bottom archery tiles first, then working your way up as tools become available. This allows your bottom archery to become useful sooner, without shades having to get as near them.
Upgrade the range twice per tower, starting with the two bottom towers and moving up.
Eventually, you will have all 10 archery with maximum range and a few tools to spare. This alone should be enough to get you through the game without losing any resources. You can continue to use resources any way you please: perhaps adding a tower or two near the right side to attack emerging shades, or upgrading some of your archery to more advanced structures.
Alternate Strategy
For another layout that finishes the game quickly without needing to upgrade the range of any towers, check out our video guide.
Bugs
There is a critical bug in the game that can cause you to lose all progress and transport you back to the plot hub. As acknowledged by TNT in the V0.7.50 Release Notes, after pausing the game (or clicking away from the game which forces the game pause), the home button from the popup remains on the screen but is invisible so it can inadvertently be clicked. To avoid this issue, do not click in the red box area below:
Also, don't place your pieces like this!
Another lesser yet annoying bug is the "Play Again" button freezing. If you wish to play again and the game freezes after clicking to play again, just refresh the page to start a new game.
Additionally, during the plot pause beginning on September 29, 2025, the Neopoints and prize earned for completing the game will not display on the end screen, but they will be awarded to your Inventory and on hand Neopoints total.
Rewards
For successfully completing a game the first time each day, you will receive a random item from the possible prizes below. Since the start of Chapter 11, you will also receive the listed Neopoints.
Users with an active Premium subscription may play for a second time and also earn prizes and Neopoints for an additional game completion, despite there being no indication of this on the game itself. Pressing the "Play Again" button will cause the game to freeze, but just refresh the page and begin a new game.
Users without a Premium subscription may also play a second time for Neopoints and an item prize after watching an ad. After finishing your first game, first ensure you have any adblockers disabled, otherwise you will not be able to watch an ad and will have to play an additional game without any rewards to trigger the popup! Then, press the "Play Again" button, and then click the green "Increase Limit" button on the popup which will immediately trigger an ad to start.
During Chapter 10 from September 8–14, 2025, instead of Neopoints, completing your first daily game would award 10 plot points—or double if using a Plot Points Fortune Cookie, or none if the chapter point maximum had already been reached. Additionally, you would receive a quantity of two of your given item prize if you had an active Premium subscription or were using a Plot Prize Fortune Cookie.
As of the plot hiatus, upon completing the game there will be no visual indication of any prize won on the finish screen, but one will be immediately deposited into your inventory along with the Neopoints to your on-hand total.
Finish 3 consecutive Attack on Altador games in the same Neopian day. Currently cannot be obtained in the same game as the Clever Strategist avatar—despite the notifications for both avatars appearing, this avatar will not be awarded.
Released: September 8, 2025
You may take breaks and refresh the page! The three games do not need to be played immediately back-to-back-to-back, just in the same Neopian calendar day without any partially-played games between them. There is additionally a glitch when clicking the "Play Again" button that causes the game to freeze—you can refresh the page without worry to play another game and continue progressing towards the avatar.
Type defeatvoid while playing a game of Attack on Altador, and play at least until the start of wave 2. The avatar notification will only display if you finish the game.
Note: If the game is running extremely slowly, type each letter of the code slowly for all the keystrokes to register.
Released: September 8, 2025
Achievements
The Towering Defenderachievement is earned by finishing any five waves in Attack on Altador without having any resources make it through a void rift (50/50 remaining at the end of each.) It will award an additional 10 plot points.
The Honourary Protector of Altador achievement is earned by defeating a total of 500 shades in games of Attack on Altador where the score is sent. Scores are sent automatically when completing the game after defeating all 5 waves or when pressing the End Game button. It will take a minimum of 4 games to earn, and will award an additional 10 plot points.
