Tarla's Tour of Mystery
When a man buys a ticket for a Magical Mystery Tour,
He knows what to expect.
We guarantee him the trip of a lifetime,
And that's just what he gets.
Oh wait, this isn't that kind of Mystery Tour. No Beatles involved, unfortunately.
Like Kari, Tarla has also decided to go on vacation this year, but instead of one place, she will be visiting a multitude of locations. She calls this her Tour of Mystery. If you're fast and can catch her before she dashes away to her next destination, you'll receive a fabulous prize or have a chance at uncovering this mysterious mist that seems to be surrounding her.
General Information
From April 29th to May 26th, 2010, you will have opportunities to find Tarla around the Neopets site. Any location on the Neopian map is fair game. She does not seem to give hints or clues to her location, so explore around and be on the lookout!
Neopets Premium users - Log out of the Portal if you are having trouble seeing Tarla. You can do this by clicking on the animated rotating arrows icon.
Internet Explorer users - If you encounter display issues, try switching to another browser.
When you find her, you will see a banner at the top of your screen, like this:
Tarla will not always give you the option of uncovering some mist. You must be very quick in deciding what you want from her, because she won't stay in one place for long! If you take too long, you'll get this message:
Tarla might appear multiple times (in different places) in a single day. She will only clear mist away for you once per day, so if you let her do that and then find her again later in the day, your options will be limited to either an item or some Neopoints.
After you clear away mist and claim an item or NP 5 times, you will effectively max out for the day, and if you continue to find Tarla within the day, she will tell you this:
For more information, please read the FAQ.
The Mist
After you uncover some mist, you can see your progress back at the main Tour page. The mist must be cleared away 16 times before the full background picture is revealed. If you accomplish this, you will also receive special prizes (see Final Prizes section). It is unknown whether or not the picture will lead somewhere in the future, or if it will be part of a bigger activity; however, it does appear to be a workshop of some kind.
Spoiler: See the image behind the mist...
I haven't finished clearing away all the mist! Can I still complete this event?
If you cleared away at least 1 piece of mist by May 26, you have another chance to clear away the rest. If you did not clear the mist at least once before that date, Tarla's secret will remain hidden to you and you will not get a second chance at revealing it.
So what's this "second chance"? You will have to purchase mystery bags from Tarla's Shop of Mystery. The mist will not be in every bag though, and the shop sells out very quickly. People have been able to buy and clear multiple mists in one day. Internet Explorer users might get error messages when trying to get a mist; a browser change might fix this. Good luck!

If you manage to finish this way, you will receive 4 out of the 5 wearables as your final prize. You will not receive Tarlas Underground Workshop Background.
Help! I need to find out how much mist I've already cleared!
Alright, to do this, go to the Tour main page and right-click somewhere on the white space to the right of the Flash image. Select "View Source." A new window should pop up showing all the code for that page. Search for swf.addVariable
. The chunk of code should look something like this:
Count how many pp
's you have. Note that the number written after pp
(for example, pp1
) denotes which part of the whole misty background you have cleared. Not everyone clears the same part of mist every time, so you might see some gaps in your numbers. In the image above, it skips from pp8
to pp11
, but in total, there are nine pp
's, so I have cleared nine mists so far.
Can I only clear 4 mists per week? Can I catch up if I'm just starting now or if I'm behind?
The maximum number of mists you can clear increases by 4 every 7 days. On Sunday, May 2nd, the maximum was 4; on May 9th, the maximum was 8; on May 16th, the maximum would be 12; and on May 23rd, the maximum would be 16.
If you started this event on April 29th and have been keeping up, you would've found that once you reached the maximum mist on Sunday, you'd have 3 days where you got no mist option at all. Then when Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday rolled around, a new piece of mist was available to be uncovered on those days. Why is it spread out like this? Well, if you could uncover mist every single day, those who started right when the event came out would've been done in 16 days and would've had less motivation to keep searching for Tarla.
If you started late and have only uncovered a couple of mists, you can catch up by finding Tarla daily and uncovering mist daily. Don't worry about a weekly mist limit being imposed on you, just clear 1 mist per day. However, if you started really late, you might not be able to get all 16 mists by May 26th, but it is still worth trying your best! Uncovering at least 1 mist will make you eligible for that "second chance" that was mentioned above.

What's this fancy schmancy new Twitter thing we're talking about? Glad you asked. Twitter is one of the latest Internet sensations, and it basically allows you to provide 140 character long updates about anything. In our case, we post updates about Neopets, and right now, Tarla sightings. It's like a condensed RSS feed. Best of all, Twitter is COMPLETELY FREE!
Now, what you're probably wanting to know is, how to get updates from JN about Tarla? You have a few options.
First, you need to have a Twitter account. Once you're all signed up, visit the @jellyneo Twitter feed and click the "+ Follow" button underneath of our Jelly Kacheek icon. There are quite a few ways that you can get notified about our updates:
- Your Desktop: TweetDeck is an application for either your phone, iPhone or iPad. It's free to download, and easy to use. We've only used it for our desktop, though, so that's what we're recommending it for. Once you install the application, you just enter in your Twitter login info, make sure you're following JN, and then you can minimize the app. It'll make a noise and a small popup will come up in the top right corner of your screen to let you know that there's a new tweet you might be interested in. Check quick to see if it's Tarla!
- Your Phone: If your phone supports text messaging, you can text "follow jellyneo" to 40404 in the United States to get SMS updates sent directly to your phone. (If you're not in the US, visit the @jellyneo page and hover over the "Codes for other countries" link.) Be warned, though. It's free to sign up for JN SMS updates, but your cell phone phone company may charge you for the text messages if that's the type of plan you're on!
- Your Browser: Echofon or Yoono are free add-ons for Firefox that allow you to receive updates from Twitter right in your browser without having to refresh any pages. Install, and get notified by us about Tarla!

Congratulations, you've revealed the truth of what was behind the mist! Would you just look at that! I've got to say, after all this time out on the road, my Terror Mountain home sure is a sight for sore eyes...
