Gathering
Gathering buildings, referred to as "Gather Points" in the encyclopedia, are unlocked as you progress through story quests. They are locations you can send Neopets to generate resources. These resources themselves can then be used to progress quests, convert into Crabulator Building Materials, and craft decorations and other items. As such, using Neopets to gather resources is the primary gameplay of Tales of Dacardia.
Each gather point has a specific list of items that it can generate, which will require sending in a Neopet.

How to Gather
First, tap on the gather point to bring up its menu. Then, tap Assign Pet which will bring up Neopet selection. Select the Neopet you want to complete the job—if a Neopet is unavailable because it is already doing something, its image will appear greyed—then click the Confirm button.
A new menu will appear with the items available to gather. You may select up to two different items for your pet to gather at a time, each up to a maximum quantity of five. Tap an item to add it to the gathering queue, and tap it again to increase the quantity if desired. Tap items in the gathering queue to decrease the quantity.
When you are ready, tap the Confirm button, and then tap the next Confirm button to send your Neopet to the gather point and begin generating the item(s). Working on gathering an item will increase a Neopet's hunger over time, which you can replenish by feeding them omelettes.
Some gathering locations also have a slim chance to award an additional, rarer item on completion. These rarer Bonus items are shown in the list of available items with a % sign next to them. After selecting item(s) to gather, you can see which rare item you have a chance of gathering and the exact percentage chance of gathering it. If you gather two different resources that have chances of different rare items, only the rare item for the first resource you selected will appear in the preview box, but it is still possible to get either rare item (and even both)!
Although the help menus on gather points say you can play a "microgame" in "Active Mode," the "Gather Now" button is currently disabled, and the only way to gather items is by assigning a Neopet.
While your Neopet is gathering, a countdown timer will appear above the gather point.
When your Neopet is done gathering, the timer will be replaced by an icon of an hourglass with a green checkmark.
Simply tap the gather point to claim your gathered resources!
If you hit the chance at a rare bonus resource, it will be displayed at this time.
Timing
The time it takes to gather an item is based on its rarity. Common items take 30 seconds each, while Basic items take 15 seconds each. Sometimes, other items are available to gather just for a quest, and may take much longer.
Reduce Waiting Time
You have two options to avoid or reduce waiting: watching an ad, or paying Pearly Neggs. Either can be done by clicking on the gather point while gathering is still in progress, then choosing the appropriate button.
Watching an ad will reduce 10 minutes from your gathering time; if you have less than 10 minutes left, it will complete the gathering! You can only reduce waiting time by watching an ad up to five times per day; this daily limit is shared by all timed activities, such as crafting and building. The number of opportunities remaining to watch an ad will appear in a red bubble above the "Watch Ad" button, and the button will grey out completely if you have already watched five that day. (Wheel of Prizes ads are neither affected by nor count against this daily limit.)
Alternately, Pearly Neggs can complete your gathering at a cost of 1 Pearly Negg per minute remaining (rounded up).
Cancel Gathering
If you want to stop gathering for any reason, simply click on the gather point while gathering is still in progress, then pressing the red "Stop Gathering" button and confirming the choice. Gathering will end immediately and your Neopet will be available again, but no resources will be gathered.
