Looking to impress his new pirate friends, a young Koi named Karpoh dives down to the ruins of Old Maraqua in search of treasure, armed with nothing but his wits and an impressive ability to manipulate bubbles. The ruins, however, are far from deserted...
Should we tell him about the Slorgs?
How to Play
In Raiders of Maraqua, your goal is to push anything of value that you find into a treasure chest, which the pirate crew is waiting to haul up to their ship. Once all of the treasures in a given level have made it to the chest, you will automatically advance to the next level.
Karpoh's movement is controlled with the arrow keys, while the spacebar allows him to push or pop bubbles. To pop a bubble, simply press the spacebar when a bubble is in a position that won't allow it to move in the direction you're facing.
While you begin the game with four lives, it is possible to receive more through power-ups and the code 1morekarpohplease, which can be typed at any time during gameplay, but will not work if you already have four or more lives. It is recommended that you use this code at times when there are few enemies around, such as in levels 4 and 8. The extra life power-up found in the game will grant extra lives regardless of how many you already have.
Nobody told me there would be Slorgs!
Bubbles, rocks, and debris from ruined buildings can either help you or hinder your progress, depending on their location. To further complicate matters, aggressive Jetsams and other sea creatures appear at random points throughout the levels; not only will they cost you a life if they manage to swim into you, they also occasionally push bubbles, rocks, and even treasures around the level. To take out an enemy, you can push bubbles or rocks into them, which will earn you 5 points. Unfortunately, after a certain point in each level, enemies will no longer award points when defeated. Of particular interest is the Slug Monster, which will occasionally place a bubble behind it as it swims.
Object | Description |

These bubbles can be pushed and will glide until they reach a solid object. If pushed while against a wall or object, they will pop. |

These are a bit tougher than normal bubbles, and will only pop if hit by a moving rock. |

When pushed, rocks will destroy all bubbles and enemies in their path, only stopping on contact with debris, treasure, or the edge of the level. |
![]() |
These indestructable treasures award 5 points when pushed into the treasure chest. |

These small pieces of gold can be collected without using the chest, and award 5 points. |

When an enemy is defeated, these transparent bubbles will sometimes float up from the bottom of the screen, giving points when collected. See the Scoring section below for more information. |
Unwinnable Situations
You may encounter a situation in which bubbles important to the completion of the level are destroyed. This can be overcome by taking out enemies until a Slug Monster appears, then waiting for it to create bubbles where you need them. Unfortunately, due to oversights and programming errors, it is possible for a level to become completely unwinnable without you or the enemies even doing anything. The most common way this happens is a bonus item appearing in a place that prevents you from pushing bubbles or treasures where they need to go, often in levels 4, 8, 11, 14, and 18.
There are also several odd glitches which can occur, including bubbles that can't be pushed, treasures passing right through the chest, and multiple chests appearing. While the majority of such issues are just visual bugs that last a single level, sometimes they will render the game unplayable, ruining your current session.

Scoring
There are three ways to earn points in Raiders of Maraqua:
- pushing treasure into the chest
- defeating enemies
- collecting bonuses
As a base, the game offers 415 points: 41 treasures and 42 enemies at 5 points each over 19 levels. The remaining 385 points required for the avatar will come from the small pieces of gold randomly scattered throughout the levels (5 points each), bonus bubbles (more on that in a moment), and bonus points for defeating multiple enemies with one shot.
The first enemy taken out by a moving object is worth 5 points, while each additional enemy hit is worth 10. While enemies can be defeated by bubbles pushed by other creatures, this is only worth 1 point, and will count as one of your enemy defeats for that level.
When an enemy is defeated, there is a random chance that a transparent bubble will begin to float up from the bottom of the screen. When collected, this bubble is worth 5 points multiplied by the number of the level you're currently in; if you were to collect one in level 10, it would be worth 10*5=50 points. A good way to earn points is to replay later levels that have a large number of bubbles in them, in order to fight as many enemies as possible. Since you retain any points you gained in a level if you're hit by an enemy or press the Restart Level button, you should focus on levels you know you can score a large number of points in.
Avatar, here I come!
Level Solutions
To view a level solution, use the blue arrows or select a level from the drop-down menu below. An animation will begin to play, showing you the most efficient path through the level, and an accompanying text guide will appear under it. If you would like to replay the animation or restart it while it's already playing, press the Replay button.
In this guide, the direction an object should be pushed will be indicated by a green arrow, while a red X means that a bubble should be popped. While the solutions shown here work most of the time, it's possible that enemies will make it impossible to complete the level as shown. In these situations, you will have to improvise another method for clearing the level.

Move toward the bottom-right treasure, popping only the bubbles necessary to reach it, and push the bubbles to the right of the treasure to the right. Push the treasure up into the chest. Push the center-left treasure to the right, clearing any bubbles that may be in the way, and push one of the bubbles from the center of the screen down and to the right. Do the same with the treasure, then push it up into the chest. Pop the bubbles around the bottom-left treasure and push it up, right, down, right, and up into the chest. Pop the bubbles around the top-left treasure and push it down, right, down, right, and up into the chest.
You can defeat seven enemies in this level for points.

You can defeat nine enemies in this level for points.
In any case, congratulations! If you've made it this far, you've conquered Raiders of Maraqua!
Quick Tips
- If important bubbles are destroyed, use a Slug Monster to create new bubbles.
- Collect bubbles floating up from the bottom of the screen for easy bonus points.
- Type 1morekarpohplease when you have less than four lives to receive an extra one.
- When going for a high score, restart until you get an extra life or three bonus gold pieces in level 1.
- Focus on scoring points in level 19 rather than trying to beat it.
