Flash Game
[flæʃ gɛɪm] - noun
A game that used the Adobe Flash Player browser plugin to provide animation and interactive controls. Not every game on Neopets was a Flash game—some, such as Sakhmet Solitaire, don't use this plugin at all. Adobe Flash was discontinued in January 2021, and TNT has been working on converting all Flash maps to newer web technologies.

"The Daily Dare is an annual gaming tournament focused on Flash games."

Foster
['fɒstə] - verb, noun
(1) To take a Neopet from the Neopian Pound (the shelter for homeless pets) and paint, train and/or otherwise make them more attractive before trying to find a player who would like to adopt them permanently.
(2) A Neopet who is being fostered.
Example Usage:
(1) "I'm fostering a Faerie Koi at the moment. Do you know anyone who's looking for one?"
(2) "Time for me to go and pick up a new foster from the Pound! How will I ever choose? I want to take them all with me!"

Foster Parent
['fɒstə 'pɛəɹənt] - noun
A user who temporarily houses Neopets taken from the Pound, and paints, trains and/or otherwise makes them more attractive before trying to find a player who would like to adopt each one permanently.
Example Usage:
"My friend wants to become a foster parent, but I don't think she'll be able to resist keeping every pet she picks up!"

FQD
[ɛfkjuːdiː] - noun
Abbreviation for "Faerie Queen Doll". A rare toy, sold in the Hidden Tower, that can be used to get a secret avatar.
Example Usage:
"Will you lend me your FQD? I'll give it back as soon as I have the avatar!"

Freebie
['fɹiːbi:] - noun
(1) A free item, usually from a giveaway or sponsor area.
(2) Freebies (always plural): the gift of Neopoints and food that can be collected monthly at https://www.neopets.com/freebies/index.phtml.
Example Usage:
(1) "It's a shame that new freebie can only be collected by American users."
(2) "Have you picked up your freebies this month yet?"

Freeze
[fɹiːz] - verb
(1) To block a user from logging into Neopets.com, and stop their account from being displayed to the public. A punishment which can be handed out by monitors for bad behaviour, although it can also be used temporarily to prevent damage to an account if someone other than the account owner has gained access.
(2) In the Battledome, to prevent an opponent from attacking for a turn.
Example Usage:
(1) "If you try to flirt with another user on Neopets, the mods might freeze you."
(2) "Freezing an opponent is a good way to get the upper hand, even if it's just for a short time."

Fun Image
[fʌn 'ɪmɪdʒ] - noun
A graphic, usually animated, created by the Neopets Team's artists for people to use on their web pages.
Example Usage:
"I'd take a couple of the Fun Images out of the top part of that page, if I were you. They make it look a bit cluttered."

Glendale
['glɛndeɪl] - noun
The city, in real-world southern California, where the Neopets Team work. Often used as shorthand for the Neopets, Inc. headquarters.
Example Usage:
"Three days and nobody's solved this puzzle yet. I wonder if they're laughing at us in Glendale..."

Goldban
['goʊldbæn] - verb
To prevent a Neopet who has won the Beauty Contest from entering again for a period of four months. This rule is intended to give many different entrants a chance, rather than letting the same pet win week after week.
Example Usage:
"So, I finally won! But now my Scorchio's been goldbanned. Guess I'll have to figure out how to draw one of my other pets..."

Grandfather
['gɹændfaːðə] - verb
To make an exception to the usual site rules for a player because an important part of their account or Neopian identity, while breaking one or more rules, was created before those rules came into effect.
Example Usage:
"I got this username the year after Neopets started, and TNT have told me it's officially grandfathered. Don't bother reporting it, and PLEASE don't Neomail me to tell me that word isn't allowed on the site. I know!"

Guild
[gɪld] - noun
A group of friends, often sharing a common interest, who have their own chat board as a meeting-place. A user can only belong to one guild at a time. Guilds are often themed around real-world fandoms, specific age groups or nationalities, or shared goals (such as finding homes for pets in the Pound).
Example Usage:
"I see you're a young adult Neopian, too. Would you like to join my guild?"

Gwen
[gwɛn] - verb
To cause an inactive pet that should be deleted in an account purge to get stuck in limbo, preventing them from being removed from the database. It appears that the Neopets Team have to release such pets into the Pound manually.
Example Usage:
"I was going to recreate that pet, but then some utter idiot gwenned her! Aaaagh!"

Habi
['hæbiː] - noun
Abbreviation for "Habitarium". A miniature petsite within Neopets.com where you can raise small bugs known as Petpetpets. The Habitarium earns Neopoints for players, but otherwise does not affect the rest of the site.
Example Usage:
"I'm at Level 25 in Habi already!"

Habitarium
[hæbɪ'tɛəɹiːʌm] - noun
A Flash-based miniature petsite within Neopets, where players raise Petpetpets in a specially designed enclosure. The Habitarium earns Neopoints for players, but otherwise does not affect the rest of the site.

"Oh dear, I forgot about my Habitarium and all the Petpetpets died again. Drat!"

A place where Neopets who are hurt or sick can receive help. Visit every half-hour for a chance of a cure. The Springs are located here.
Example Usage:
"I wouldn't bother wasting money buying that expensive medicine. Just go to the Healing Springs."

[ɛɪtʃpiː] - noun
(1) Abbreviation for "Hit Points". A measure of your pet's stamina in the Battledome.
(2) Abbreviation for "Honey Potion". A Battledome weapon given as a reward for completing Illusen's quests.
Example Usage:
(1) "Man, her pet's going to be tough to beat. She took off half my HP in a single hit!"
(2) "I've sunk millions of Neopoints into doing these stupid quests. Let's hope the HP is worth the money..."

Nothing to do with the European country. A fan-made term for the space on the Neopets servers where frozen accounts are kept.
Example Usage:
"My account was frozen for protection when that scammer got in. I'll have to see what TNT can do to get my pets back from Iceland."

[aɪkjuː] - noun
(1) Abbreviation for "Island Quiggle". Can also be used to refer to the avatar that features this kind of Neopet.
(2) Abbreviation for "Illusen's Quest". A timed challenge set by the kindly Earth Faerie, with item rewards.
Example Usage:
(1) "I wish my friend would let me borrow her IQ so I could get the avatar, but she won't let him out of her sight."
(2) "I'm on my 33rd IQ so far... Riches, here I come!"

Abbreviation of "I Taunt The Pant Devil". The name of a secret avatar which is gained by keeping very rare items in your inventory.
Example Usage:
"Somebody give me a Pant Devil Attractor or six, please. I feel jittery getting my rare items out to try and get ITTPD..."

Abbreviation for "Jhudora's Crystal Ball". A Battledome item that lets you spy on your opponent's weaponry.
Example Usage:

Abbreviation for "Jittery Jipple Pear Potion". A Battledome weapon that has less effect on very unintelligent pets.
Example Usage:

Job
[dʒɒb] - noun
A task assigned by the Faerieland Employment Agency. Pets (and their owners) will be asked to buy specific items for the Faeries, then hand them in for a reward. Unlike the real world, "jobs" are not most owners' main source of income in Neopia.
Example Usage:
"I can't believe I missed out on getting a job AGAIN! It gets so busy at the Employment Agency..."

[dʒɛɪaː] - verb
To make a regular Neopets account into an account suitable for a player under the age of thirteen -- that is, to remove the ability to Neomail, edit pages, and post on the Neoboards. The Neopets Team will do this if they have reason to believe a player is under thirteen and lied about their age when signing up.
Example Usage:
"My little sister was bragging on the boards about being a brilliant Flash gamer when she was only eleven, and suddenly she got JRed. She's pretty mad, I can tell you."

Abbreviation for "JumpStart". Neopets' parent company since Year Sixteen; a video game company well-known for its range of educational games.
Example Usage:
"JS are quite keen on mobile gaming, so we might see more use made of that technology from now on."

The new parent company of Neopets since Year Sixteen. A video game company best known for their popular educational games.

Abbreviation for "Kacheek Flour". A strange Battledome weapon that has a chance of permanently turning the opponent into a Blue Kacheek.
Example Usage:
"I heard about someone who gets her friends to use K-flour on her labbie every time he changes species... I think I'll stick to morphing potions."

Abbreviation for "King's Lens". A Lost Desert Battledome item, designed to reflect your opponent's attack back at them.
Example Usage:
"Have you ever met anyone who's actually got a KLens from Coltzan's Shrine? Eight years I've been on Neopets, and all I've ever seemed to get is junk."

Abbreviation for "Kacheek Pebble Lobber". A somewhat unpredictable Battledome weapon that can only be used by Kacheeks.
Example Usage:
"Since the KPL is so cheap, it gets overused by Kacheek owners and most opponents will expect it."

[læb] - noun, verb
(1) An abbreviation for the Secret Laboratory, which can be reached using a special map and used to change pets' stats and appearance.
(2) To use the Secret Lab's powers on a pet.
Example Usage:
(1) "My pet keeps getting movement points from the lab."
(2) "I'm labbing my Usul at the moment. She turned Pink yesterday!"

Lag
[læg] - noun, verb
(1) Delays and slowness caused either by the player's slow computer, or by unusually high stress on the Neopets servers.
(2) To run slowly, requiring users to wait longer than usual and/or repeat an action several times in order to get results.
Example Usage:
(1) "I always lose Key Quest because of the lag I experience during minigames. I can barely move my mouse before my opponent's won!"
(2) "The site is lagging so much this weekend. This is my third try at actually adding a post to this thread!"
