Some of the words here were invented by the Neopets Team; others were created by players and have stuck around because they're so useful. Neotitle

['niːoʊtaɪtəl] - noun

A humorous self-description (picked from a list of presets) that appears underneath your avatar when you post on the Neoboards.

Example Usage:

"My Neotitle is 'Proud Nerd' because I just love explaining to people how to code petpages!"

Neovision

['niːoʊvɪʒən] - noun

A contest where people could enter their own Neopets-themed animations. It ran for a few years before being retired due to lack of interest.

Example Usage:

"I remember seeing this very funny Neovision clip with a Slorg playing the guitar... it was priceless."

Nerf

[nɜːf] - verb

To make a weapon less powerful, usually to help balance the game.

Example Usage:

"I thought I'd be able to sell that sword for millions someday, but the Neopets Team nerfed it and now fewer people want one. I guess they thought it was too powerful."

NetDragon

[nɛtdrægən] - noun

NetDragon is the current parent company of Jumpstart, which is the producer of Neopets. NetDragon acquired Jumpstart and its assets in July 2017.

Example Usage:

"They're giving away some freebies in the NC Mall to celebrate the NetDragon acquisition!"

['njuːbiː] - noun

A player who is new to Neopets, and still finding their way around the site.

Example Usage:

"My friend's still a newbie. Do you mind showing him around the site a bit?"

Nick

[nɪk] - noun

Abbreviation for "Nickelodeon", an entertainment company owned by Viacom (Neopets' former parent company). During Neopets' ownership by Viacom, Nick was frequently advertised on Neopets.

Example Usage:

"ANOTHER Nick promotion in New Features? How many does this make now?"

Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds

[nɪkəl'oʊdiːən vɜːtjuːwəl wɜːldz] - noun

An umbrella term covering all the multiplayer games that were counted as part of the Nickelodeon family under Viacom's ownership. While Neopets was still under Viacom, the games included: Neopets, Petpet Park, and Monkey Quest.

Example Usage:

"Please don't ask other players for contact information outside of the Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds sites."

[ɛnɛm] - noun, verb

Abbreviation for "Neomail".
(1) The private messaging system on Neopets.com.
(2) A message sent through this system.
(3) To send a Neomail message to someone.

Example Usage:

(1) "Let me know via NM when you've found a buyer for that item."
(2) "Wow, I got an NM complimenting me on my Poetry Contest entry!"
(3) "I'm going to NM him some ideas I had for improving his petpage."

['noʊtəbəl 'niːoʊpɛt] - noun

A Neopet featured on the front page of neopets.com, chosen randomly from among the entrants to the current week's Customisation Contest.

Example Usage:

"I was wondering why I was getting so much attention all of a sudden... then I realised my Blumaroo was the Notable Neopet!"

NR

[ɛnaː] - adjective

Abbreviation of "Neorelated". Having to do with the Neopets site and its features. The opposite of off-topic. All Neoboard posts should be Neorelated, although in practice there are too few moderators to enforce this completely or consistently.

Example Usage:

"Why are you posting on the Neoboards about your guppy? How is this NR?"

[ɛntiː] - noun

Abbreviation for "Neopian Times". Neopets.com's weekly fanwork newsletter, featuring articles, stories, serials and comics submitted by ordinary users.

Example Usage:

"My series was accepted to be published in the NT! I wonder if the first part will appear this week?"

Off Topic

[ɒf 'tɒpɪk] - adjective

(1) In the wrong category of Neoboard. For instance, a thread about the Beauty Contest posted on the Trades and Auctions board.
(2) Not related to Neopets at all, and thus unsuitable for posting on the Neoboards.

Example Usage:

"Quit posting off topic already! You're clogging up the boards!"

Offsite

['ɒfsaɪt (noun) ɒf'saɪt (adverb)] - noun, adverb

(1) A page not on Neopets.com or Petpetpark.com.
(2) Outside Neopets.com or Petpetpark.com; elsewhere on the Internet.

Example Usage:

(1) "We aren't allowed to promote offsites on the Neoboards, even if they're helpful ones."
(2) "No offsite planning! Let's keep all the discussion of this here in the guild where everyone can see it."

Packrat

['pækɹæt] - noun

The requirement for a particular secret avatar of the same name. Users need to collect 1,000 different items in their Safety Deposit Box.

Example Usage:

"Is anyone selling cheap items? I need some stuff for Packrat."

Paint Brush

[pɛɪnt bɹʌʃ] - noun

A magical item that changes the colour of your pet's fur, feathers or skin. Versions for Petpets also exist.

Example Usage:

"I'm saving up for a Spotted Paint Brush for my Gelert."

Painted

['pɛɪntəd] - adjective

A colour other than red, yellow, blue or green (and for Grundos, purple, brown or white). Confusingly, the term "painted" applies even if the pet acquired the colour some other way, such as through a Random Event.

"People are always on the lookout for painted pets they can adopt."

PB

[piːbiː] - noun

Abbreviation for "Paint Brush". A magical item that changes the colour of your pet's fur, feathers or skin. Versions for Petpets also exist.

Example Usage:

"I'd really like a Faerie Acara, but the PB is so expensive!"

PC

[piːsiː] - noun

(1) Abbreviation for "Pound Chat". The Neoboard where players come to talk about Neopets they have up for adoption or trade. It is generally a very hectic and busy place.
(2) Abbreviation for "Plot Chat". The Neoboard that appears during a plot (usually board #7), where players can discuss puzzles and characters. An antiquated term.
(3) Abbreviation for "Price Check". An acronym used when asking the price of items. Often used on the Battledome Chat and the Trades and Auctions board when asking the value of a item that is difficult to price.

Example Usage:

(1) "I posted on the PC about my pet, but nobody was interested today. I'll try again tomorrow."
(2) "Did you hear there's a new plot step out? I bet the PC will have some more information."
(3) "Hey, I'd like a PC on Fish Negg Plushie, please."

Permission Slip

[pɜː'mɪʃən slɪp] - noun

The form that must be filled in by a parent or guardian, and faxed to Neopets Headquarters, before a child under thirteen is allowed to send Neomails or post on the Neoboards.

Example Usage:

"My little sister still can't post on these boards, since Mum won't sign her permission slip. :("

Pest

[pɛst ] - noun

A type of small blue bug that appears in the Habitarium game. For some reason, they are much worse-behaved than Petpetpets, though they are the same size, and must be fought off to stop any damage coming to your Habitarium.

Example Usage:

"Aagh, MORE pests? My Soldiers are still tired from fighting the last lot!"

Pet Day

[pɛt dɛɪ] - noun

An annual festival celebrating all Neopets of a particular species. Since there are fifty-four different species of Neopet in Neopia, there are fifty-four pet days every year. The majority of pet days fall on the anniversary of a species' introduction into Neopia, but in some cases this is not possible (for instance, when two species were announced on the same day). All pets of the right species can get free Battledome training at the Swashbuckling Academy during the festival.

Example Usage:

"I'm training my Chomby in celebration of Chomby Day!"

Petaria

[pɛt'aːɹiːə] - noun

A world close to Neopia, thought to be the original home of many Petpet species. As yet unexplored by humans or Neopets. It was featured in the real-life video game, Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing.

Example Usage:

"During the Operation Petpet Park mini-plot, Petpets came through portals from the world of Petaria."

Petpage

['pɛtpɛɪdʒ] - noun

Users' editable pages on Neopets.com. There is one petpage for every pet in Neopia, at the address https://www.neopets.com/~[pet's name], and only the owner of a specific pet can edit the page with that pet's name. If the owner has not entered any text or images, a default template will be displayed when someone views the page.

Example Usage:

"You can't see my Lupe very well in this picture, so I've put a bigger one on his petpage."

Petpet

['pɛtpɛt] - noun

A smaller creature than a Neopet, incapable of speech. They can be given to your Neopet to look after.

Example Usage:

"I'm looking for a Petpet that will look good with my Faerie Elephante."

Petpet Park

['pɛtpɛt pɑːk] - noun

A spin-off game (at petpetpark.com) which you can log into with your Neopets account. Players adopt a single Petpet which can explore, collect items and help various colourful characters with their tasks.

Example Usage:

"Will you come and help me with a task in Petpet Park?"

Pound

[paʊnd] - noun, verb

(1) The shelter for ownerless Neopets. Pets may be left here by owners who can no longer care for them, to be picked up by other owners with more space and free time.
(2) To send a pet to this shelter.

Example Usage:

(1) "Look at the lovely Lenny I found in the Pound! I couldn't resist taking her home with me."
(2) "My cousin gave me her Aisha when she quit, because she didn't want to pound him."

Pound Release

[paʊnd rɪ'liːs] - noun

(1) The name of a special account belonging to the Neopets Team. Pets who had to be temporarily removed from the Pound due to the risk of a server overload are housed here.
(2) The regular movement of pets from that account back into the Pound. This happens very slowly (at the rate of a couple of pets per day).

Example Usage:

(1) "That pretty Aisha I had my eye on is STILL sitting on Pound Release."
(2) "Pound Release tends to happen at 9:47 NST."

Pound Surf

[paʊnd sɜːf] - verb

To browse through the ownerless pets in the Pound, looking for unusual colours and species.

Example Usage:

"Who wants to pound surf with me? There might be a few Kikos from last week in there!"

Pound Transfer

[paʊnd 'tɹænsfɜː] - verb

To place a Neopet in the Pound (the shelter for homeless pets) with the expectation that they will immediately be picked up by a specific user. This is risky, due to the fact that pets in the Pound can be adopted by anyone at any time.

Example Usage:

"I'm kicking myself for choosing to pound transfer. My Poogle got picked up by some girl in Brazil instead of her new owner, and I don't even speak Portuguese!"

PP

[piːpiː] - noun

(1) Abbreviation for "Petpage". Users' editable pages on Neopets.com.
(2) Abbreviation for "Pike Pike". A Battledome weapon that can be obtained from the Underwater Fishing Cavern.

Example Usage:

(1) "I'm looking for the PP someone made about Almost Abandoned Attic restocks."
(2) "The PP is a little overpriced, but it gets interesting when combined with other weapons."
