Welcome to the Neopian Dictionary! Here, you can find definitions and explanations for all those strange Neopian words that have been puzzling you. Some of the words here were invented by the Neopets Team; others were created by players and have stuck around because they're so useful. 2P

[tuːpiː] - adjective

Abbreviation for "two-player". In the Battledome, used to refer to a match between two users' pets, as opposed to one fought against a computerised opponent.

Example Usage:

"In 2P fights, your opponent is probably going to be savvy enough to see this strategy coming and counter it."

9/9/09 Draik

[naɪn naɪn oʊ naɪn dɹɛɪk] - noun

A Draik that was created during a particular glitch a few years ago, which allowed them to be accessed through the normal pet-creation form rather than the usual hatching method. It's estimated that a few hundred of these Draiks were released into Neopia before the Neopets Team fixed the bug.

Example Usage:

"Wow! I love your pet! How did you ever afford a Draik Egg?"
"Oh, come on! I could never buy one of those! He's a 9/9/09 Draik."

Abandon

[ə'bændən] - verb

To leave a pet at the Pound, Neopia Central's shelter for ownerless pets. This is not the same as sending a pet to a specific new owner, which is also done at the Pound, but is called "transferring".

Example Usage:

"It's a good idea to set a PIN so that anyone who gets into your account can't abandon your pets."

ABer

[ɛɪbiːəɹ] - noun

Abbreviation for "autobuyer".

(1) A computer program that buys items from the Neopian shops for you, without your having to click or type. Using one of these is very much against the rules and grounds for an immediate freezing.
(2) A person who uses such a program.

Example Usage:

"The Neopets Team try lots of different methods to crack down on ABers."

Achyfi

['æxɜːfiː] - noun

A popular fizzy drink. It is said to have a very strong taste that many people and pets dislike.

Example Usage:

"We've located the programmer responsible for the glitch on Friday and made sure he'll be drinking nothing but Achyfi for a week!"

Active

['æktɪv] - noun

The Neopet that appears in your quick-ref panel at the side of the page, when playing certain games, and on the Neoboards. Faerie quest rewards and random event effects will happen to this Neopet. To change which pet is your active, go to Quick Ref and select "Make Active" from a pet's dropdown menu.

Example Usage:

"I just painted my active a new colour! Doesn't she look great?"

Adam

['ædəm] - noun

(1) The name of one of the founders of Neopets, also known as Borovan or Number Six. He is now working on other projects unrelated to Neopets.
(2) A nickname for the "Number Six" secret avatar, obtained by visiting the About Us page with a certain amount of Neopoints on hand.

Example Usage:

(1) "Adam's favourite Neopet was the Asparagus Chia."
(2) "Will you lend me 100,000 NP so I can get Adam?"

Adopt

[ə'dɒpt] - verb

(1) To receive a pet from the Neopian Pound, the shelter in Neopia Central for ownerless pets.
(2) To receive a pet from a foster parent who has chosen you as their new owner.

Example Usage:

"Check out the Lenny I just adopted! Isn't she beautiful?"

AFC

[ɛɪɛfsiː] - noun

Abbreviation of "Air Faerie Crown". A Battledome weapon that was originally obtained by buying real-life Neopets trading cards.

Example Usage:

"I've still got an AFC knocking around somewhere. Will it be any good for this fight, or should I buy a newer weapon?"

Affie

['əfiː] - noun

Abbreviation of "affiliate". A person who agrees to put a link to your page on theirs, in return for the same favour.

Example Usage:

"I'm looking for affies so my page gets a bit better-known!"

Aged

['ɛɪdʒɛd] - adjective

Of a Petpet, having been attached to a Neopet for a long time. For certain Petpets, this can earn you a secret avatar.

Example Usage:

"I adopted this Blumaroo without even realising he had an aged Mazzew attached! Wow!"

Agility

[ə'dʒɪlɪtiː] - noun

One of a Neopet's Battledome stats. Sometimes referred to as movement, this stat is intended to represent a pet's speed. Currently, the only use for the stat is to meet the requirements to use the Heavy Robe of Thievery.

Example Usage:

"This quest raises your pet's agility as a reward."

Anthro

['ænθɹoʊ] - adjective, noun

(1) A style of drawing which depicts Neopets, whatever their species, as having a similar build and moving in a similar way to humans. For instance, a Lupe might stand only on his hind legs. The opposite of quad.
(2) A Neopet drawn in this style, especially in the Beauty Contest.

Example Usage:

(1) "I've kind of had enough of excessively anthro characters in official Neopets stuff. Can't we have an Aisha on all fours and without a wig on for once?"
(2) "I don't make a habit of voting for anthros, but I like your art so much that I made an exception. :)"

Appeal Form

[ə'piːl fɔːm] - noun

The form that must be sent to the Neopets Team in order to recover a mistakenly frozen account.

Example Usage:

"Put as much information on the appeal form as you can remember. Detail is always good."

Application

[əplɪ'kɛɪʃən] - noun

A letter sent to the current owner of a UFA (Up for Adoption) pet explaining why you want to adopt that pet, and how you see them fitting into your life on Neopets.

Example Usage:

"I finally finished my application! I really hope he picks me as the new owner..."

Asplode

[æs'ploʊd] - verb

(1) A comical misspelling of the word "explode".
(2) A fan term for the Neopets Team's practice of automatically locking Neoboard topics (blocking anyone from adding further posts) when they exceed 500 replies, regardless of content. A thread that is automatically locked in this way is said to have "asploded" due to too many replies. Users may also try to "asplode" a board themselves before this happens.

Example Usage:

(1) "The Neoboards are currently not working because something asploded. Oops. We'll try and fix them as soon as we can."
(2) "OK, this thread's up to 490 posts. I think I'd better make a follow-up topic before it asplodes!"

Avatar

The icon used to represent a player on the Neoboards. You can choose from a wide variety. Some "secret avatars" have to be unlocked by completing certain tasks.

Example Usage:

"Wow, I love your Neopian Times avatar! I bet that was hard to unlock."

['bɛɪsɪk] - adjective

Red, yellow, blue or green; that is, one of the colours in which Neopets can be born.

Example Usage:

"The pets that take the longest to find homes in the Pound are generally basic pets with unattractive names."

['bætəldoʊm] - noun, verb

(1) An arena where Neopets can take part in play-fights using a variety of weapons and magic.
(2) To take part in Battledome fights.

Example Usage:

(1) "See you in the Battledome, okay? I'm gonna win this time!"
(2) "I spend a lot of time Battledoming with my friends."

Battledomer

['bætəldoʊmɜː] - noun

A player who enjoys fighting in the Battledome, the arena for play-fights between Neopets. Many people try out the Battledome, but this word is usually applied to more serious hobbyists who save up for good weapons and training.

Example Usage:

"I have a friend who's a Battledomer. She's going to love the new weapon that was announced today!"

BC

[biːsiː] - noun

(1) Abbreviation of "Beauty Contest". An art competition in which players must draw their own pets and then compete against other Neopets of the same species.
(2) The Neoboard where Beauty Contest entries can be shown off. (Advertising on any other Neoboard is against the rules.)

Example Usage:

(1) "I'm going to be in the BC this Friday! Vote for me?"
(2) "I think it still needs work. Maybe the BC can give you some help with your technique?"

BD Pet

[biː'diːpɛt] - noun

(1) The Neopet most often used as a fighter in the Battledome, out of the pets a person owns.
(2) A Neopet whose Battledome stats are high, making them particularly suitable as a fighter.

Example Usage:

(1) "Lila is my BD pet. Her stats are higher than any of my other Neopets', so it makes sense."
(2) "I'm thinking of getting a new Neopet. Species and colour don't really matter, but I'd like a good BD pet."

BDer

[biː'diːɜː] - noun

Abbreviation of "Battledomer". A player who enjoys fighting in the Battledome, the arena for play-fights between Neopets. Many people try out the Battledome, but this term is usually applied to more serious hobbyists who save up for good weapons and training.

Abbreviation of "Black Frost Cannon". A Battledome weapon that may freeze an opponent (leave them unable to attack for a turn).

Example Usage:

"Hypno Helmets are expensive, so I went with a BFC instead."

BGC

[biːdʒiːsiː] - noun

Abbreviation of "Bony Grarrl Club". A very expensive and rare item that can give you a secret avatar when equipped to a Grarrl. By extension, the avatar associated with it.

Example Usage:

"When I was a newbie, my friend lent me a BGC and I accidentally *fed* it to my Grarrl instead of equipping it. I thought she was going to kill me for a minute."

Board

[bɔːd] - noun

(1) A section of the Neoboards, Neopets.com's chatting area. Different boards are themed around different subjects.
(2) An individual thread on the Neoboards.

Note: "Boards", plural, is an abbreviation for "Neoboards" and refers to the entire chat system in general.

Example Usage:

(1) "Sorry, I don't think anyone here knows much about Neocash trading values. Maybe you should try the NC Mall board?"
(2) "You already made a board on this topic. Why are you trying to start a new one?"

Buff

[bʌf] - verb

To make a weapon more powerful, usually to help balance the game.

Example Usage:

"Since the Neopets Team buffed that weapon, suddenly everyone has been trying to get their hands on one."

Bump

[bʌmp] - verb

To make a new post at the end of a Neoboard thread that has been neglected, bringing it back to the top of the list of topics.

Example Usage:

"On a fast-moving Neoboard like the Pound Chat, you may have to bump your thread a few times before it gets noticed."
