Adverspam
['ædvəspæm] - noun
A post that adds very little to a Neoboard conversation, and may be posted multiple times in different topic threads, solely for the purpose of gaining publicity for the writer's Beauty Contest entry.
Example Usage:
"Let's give each other some art critique! No adverspam in this thread, please."

Announced Giveaway
[æn'aʊnst 'gɪvəwɛɪ] - noun
A message on the Neoboards advertising the fact that a player is giving away items. This is against the rules.
Example Usage:
"Sorry, I think that plan would count as an announced giveaway. I wouldn't do it if I were you."

Asplode
[æs'ploʊd] - verb
(1) A comical misspelling of the word "explode".
(2) A fan term for the Neopets Team's practice of automatically locking Neoboard topics (blocking anyone from adding further posts) when they exceed 500 replies, regardless of content. A thread that is automatically locked in this way is said to have "asploded" due to too many replies. Users may also try to "asplode" a board themselves before this happens.
Example Usage:
(1) "The Neoboards are currently not working because something asploded. Oops. We'll try and fix them as soon as we can."
(2) "OK, this thread's up to 490 posts. I think I'd better make a follow-up topic before it asplodes!"

Avatar
['ævætɑː] - noun
The icon used to represent a player on the Neoboards. You can choose from a wide variety. Some "secret avatars" have to be unlocked by completing certain tasks.
Example Usage:
"Wow, I love your Neopian Times avatar! I bet that was hard to unlock."

Abbreviation of "avatar". The icon used to represent a player on the Neoboards. Some "secret avatars" have to be unlocked by completing certain tasks.

[biːdiːtʃæt] - noun
Abbreviation for "Battledome Chat". The Neoboard for all things Battledome-related.
Example Usage:
"I thought the BD Chat was mean at first, but after learning a thing or two about the Battledome on my own, I found the people there were very helpful."

[biːdiːsiː] - noun
Abbreviation of "Battledome Chat". A Neoboard where people find opponents for two-player matches and buy and sell expensive weapons. Not to be confused with "BC", the Beauty Contest Chat.
Example Usage:
"I have no idea what this weapon's worth -- it's been sitting on my account for years. Maybe I'll ask on the BDC."

BFA
[biːɛfɛɪ] - noun
Abbreviation for "Bump For Awareness", used to indicate that a topic is important and you are posting to bump the thread to the top of a Neoboard, where others are more likely to see it.
Example Usage:
"bfa - randomuser's account was hijacked, please be alert for anyone offering to trade her prized battlepet."

BGC
[biːdʒiːsiː] - noun
Abbreviation of "Bony Grarrl Club". A very expensive and rare item that can give you a secret avatar when equipped to a Grarrl. By extension, the avatar associated with it.
Example Usage:
"When I was a newbie, my friend lent me a BGC and I accidentally *fed* it to my Grarrl instead of equipping it. I thought she was going to kill me for a minute."

Board
[bɔːd] - noun
(1) A section of the Neoboards, Neopets.com's chatting area. Different boards are themed around different subjects.
(2) An individual thread on the Neoboards.
Note: "Boards", plural, is an abbreviation for "Neoboards" and refers to the entire chat system in general.
Example Usage:
(1) "Sorry, I don't think anyone here knows much about Neocash trading values. Maybe you should try the NC Mall board?"
(2) "You already made a board on this topic. Why are you trying to start a new one?"

Bump
[bʌmp] - verb
To make a new post at the end of a Neoboard thread that has been neglected, bringing it back to the top of the list of topics.
Example Usage:
"On a fast-moving Neoboard like the Pound Chat, you may have to bump your thread a few times before it gets noticed."

Charter
['tʃaːtə] - noun
A Neoboard open only to players who have subscribed to Neopets Premium for more than three months.
Example Usage:
"I have a few good Neofriends that I met on Charter."

[iːɛmɛs] - noun
Abbreviation of "Evil Things and Monster Sightings". A Neoboard originally designed for talk about the various villains of Neopia, but that has no clearly defined topic.
Example Usage:
"Some years ago, the Neopets Team tried to take down the EMS board. There was one heck of a protest and they had to put it back."

Flame
[flɛɪm] - verb
To reply to a topic angrily and aggressively, without really adding anything to the discussion.
Example Usage:
"Last time I suggested Elon Hughlis should be retired from the Maraquan Yooyuball team, I got flamed by a lot of angry fangirls."

Font
[fɒnt] - noun
The coding used to make your board posts appear in different colours, sizes or styles, or with extra decoration. More properly known as NeoHTML.
Example Usage:
"This page has a range of ready-made Neoboard fonts you can use. Just copy the coding into the right box on your Chat Preferences page."

Abbreviation for "Good luck lending". A frequent exclamation of luck on the Neoboards, particularly when rejecting or turning down a lending offer.
Example Usage:
"I don't need basics anymore, but GLL!"

Abbreviation for "Good luck selling". A frequent exclamation of luck on the Neoboards.

Abbreviation of "Help Chat". The Help Neoboard, where questions about the site can be asked and answered.
Example Usage:
"I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do here. Maybe I should ask on the HC."

The "Ideas and Suggestions" Neoboard. One of the lesser-known boards due to lack of traffic.
Example Usage:
"I posted this on I/S, but it didn't get much attention. I wonder if I should send it to the editorial?"

ITTPD
[aɪtiːtiːpiːdiː] - noun
Abbreviation of "I Taunt The Pant Devil". The name of a secret avatar which is gained by keeping very rare items in your inventory.
Example Usage:
"Somebody give me a Pant Devil Attractor or six, please. I feel jittery getting my rare items out to try and get ITTPD..."

Lock
[lɒk] - verb
To prevent anybody from posting on a particular thread on the Neoboards, while still letting people read it. Usually done to demonstrate a mistake the original poster made about the rules.
Example Usage:
"Huh, the Neopets Team locked my thread. I didn't realise asking people to put money towards an item together was against the rules."

Lookie
['lʊki:] - noun
Another term for 'user lookup'; a user's profile page, displaying their Neopets, Neohome, and account statistics.
Example Usage:
"My friend did up her lookie real neat, it's got sparkly text all over it!"

Lurk
[lɜːk] - verb
To read posts on the Neoboards, without posting anything yourself.
Example Usage:
"If you're experiencing a glitch, lurk for a while before making a new thread about it. Someone else may have already posted on the subject."

LWR
[ɛldʌbəljuːaː] - noun
Abbreviation for "Lab Waiting Room". This is not an actual place, but an imaginary one -- the place where people who are still awake late at night are supposed to wait for midnight NST to tick over, bringing in a new day and making the Lab Ray usable again. "LWR" threads are a common sight on the Neoboards late at night, with lab users chatting while they wait for midnight.
Example Usage:
"Still only 11pm NST? I guess I'm stuck sitting around the LWR for a bit."

[nuːb] - noun
A purposely annoying timewaster who winds up everyone. Not to be confused with "newbie", which simply means a new player.
Example Usage:
"I went out of my way to look up the answer to her question, then she said I wasn't helpful because she didn't like the answer!"
"Wow. What a n00b!"

NCC
[ɛnsisi] - noun
Abbreviation for the NC Mall Neoboard. Used primarily for users to trade their NC items.
Example Usage:
"I would love to own this NC item, I think I'll try to trade for it on the NCC!"

Neoboard
['niːoʊbɔːd] - noun
An area set up for players to chat by posting messages; one of Neopets.com's official forums. "Neoboards", plural, refers to the entire forum system as a whole.
Example Usage:
"My favourite Neoboard to spend time on is the Beauty Contest Chat."
"Talking about politics is not allowed on the Neoboards."

Neoboard Pen
['niːoʊbɔːd pɛn] - noun
An item that can be bought with Neocash. Owning one allows a user to post longer messages on the Neoboards, and to easily switch between using different fonts and avatars.
Example Usage:
"I bought a Neoboard Pen because I was really fed up of always running out of posting space."

NeoHTML
['niːoʊɛɪtʃtiːɛmɛl] - noun
The coding used to make your board posts appear in different colours, sizes or fonts, or with extra decoration. Also known as a font.
Example Usage:
"If you have NeoHTML disabled, some posts display a little oddly."
