AAA

[ɛɪɛɪɛɪ] - noun

(1) The nickname of Aristotle A. Avinroo, Neopia's number one gamer Blumaroo. He is the mascot of the annual Gamesmaster Challenge, in which players do their best to excel in various Flash games.

(2) An abbreviation for the Almost Abandoned Attic, a shop only available to users who have been on the site for three years or more.

Example Usage:

(1) "I just can't beat AAA's challenge today! Got any tips?"
(2) "I managed to get this rare plushie from the AAA today! Guess that's what you call a Loyal User Perk..."

['æbi:] - noun

Abbreviation of "Abigail". The younger sister of the Gamesmaster, Aristotle Avinroo. She appears as the mascot of many game-related events.

Example Usage:

"Wow, I'm terrible at this game. I can't even beat the challenge Abi set today!"

Abbreviation for "Atlas of the Ancients". The Flash-game based plot in Year Eleven that followed Roxton Colchester and Clara Chatham on a voyage around the world, eventually leading to the discovery of Moltara. Somewhat infamous for its badly-handled time-based challenges.

Example Usage:

"It's hard to believe it's been so long since AotA. I remember screaming at that cave-gliding step like it was yesterday."

To turn a Neopet into a baby, courtesy of a Random Event visit from Boochi. This event was retired in early 2014.

Example Usage:

"My pet just got Boochified! I don't know what to think... Baby is pretty different from Darigan!"

Chocolate Ball

['tʃɒkələt bɔːl] - noun

An annual day devoted to celebrating chocolate, when new chocolate-themed items and pets are often released. Although the Neopedia describes the Chocolate Ball as a high-society party, so far there has been no actual event that players can attend.

Example Usage:

"I wonder if they'll create any new Chocolate Neopet designs to celebrate the Chocolate Ball this year?"

Abbreviation for "Curse of Maraqua". The plot that followed the discovery of a rebuilt Maraqua, after the city was thought to have been destroyed. Infamous for its rather unbalanced attempt at giving Battledomers and non-Battledomers equal roles.

Example Usage:

"I have to laugh at all these newbies complaining about repetitive steps in the new plot. I nearly strained my wrist playing Attack of the Revenge in CoM and all I got was a lousy keychain!"

A winter festival celebrating generosity and the bonds we share with others. Very much like the real-world festival of Christmas, which falls on the same day.

"I bought my Neofriend a paint brush for the Day of Giving."

Abbreviation for "Daily Dare". An annual gaming festival where players are invited to complete a range of Flash game challenges within a limited time.

Example Usage:

"This year's DD has been giving out some really cool prizes!"

Abbreviation of "Double Round Robin". The tournament format used from the second Altador Cup to the sixth, where each team faced each other team twice. The format was also accompanied by four days of finals. It was replaced by the bracket system in ACVII.

Example Usage:

"The new system may be faster than the DRR format, but I haven't quite got my head around how it all works yet..."

An annual celebration of Neopia's most famous fruit, the Negg. This cheerful event happens in spring, when Neggs are said to come into season.

Abbreviation of "Fountain Faerie Quest". A special type of quest, given out very rarely in Random Events. When completed, it allows you to change the colour of one of your Neopets.

Example Usage:

"Wow, I can't believe I got an FFQ! I'll have to think about what pet I want to paint!"

An annual festival held on Mystery Island to celebrate the new season's harvest of tropical fruits. In the ancient language of the island, the word is supposed to mean "good, good day".

"Several new fruit items were released for Gadgadsbogen this year."

Abbreviation for "Gamesmaster Challenge". An annual event centred around Flash games, where players try to beat scores set by the Gamesmaster, Aristotle A. Avinroo.

Example Usage:

"I really hope they don't make us play Barf Boat as part of the GMC this year. It's the one game I'm no good at!"

A popular nickname for the strange squid-like creature that attacked Krawk Island during the summer of Year Thirteen.

Abbreviation of "Lost Desert Plot". The events that took place in Sakhmet and Qasala after the arrival of Prince Jazan in Year Seven. Often reckoned to be one of the best plots ever to take place on Neopets.

Example Usage:

"I still have that keyring I got from the LDP. It's a bit of a souvenir."

A site event that offers some puzzles and tasks, but is generally less challenging than a plot and lasts a shorter time. Operation: Petpet Park and the mystery of the Cyodrake's Gaze are good examples.

"Are you taking part in the new mini-plot? Think there's gonna be prizes?"

Neopies

['niːoʊpiːz] - noun

An annual awards ceremony, held shortly after New Year, where players reminisce about their favourite memorable moments from the previous year. Visitors to the Neopies can vote for the events and happenings they liked best.

Example Usage:

"I always love looking through the categories at the Neopies. You don't normally think about how much stuff happens in just one year!"

OLDPD

OLDPD

[oʊɛldiːpiːdiː ] - noun

Abbreviation of "Obsessive Latest Darn' Plot Disorder"; a fan-made term for the restless urge to pour time and energy into a challenging plot. The acronym originally stood for "Obsessive Lost Desert Plot Disorder", but has shifted over the years as other plots have come and gone.

Example Usage:

"Has anyone here already got OLDPD? It's only been three days since the plot started!"

Pet Day

Pet Day

[pɛt dɛɪ] - noun

An annual festival celebrating all Neopets of a particular species. Since there are fifty-four different species of Neopet in Neopia, there are fifty-four pet days every year. The majority of pet days fall on the anniversary of a species' introduction into Neopia, but in some cases this is not possible (for instance, when two species were announced on the same day). All pets of the right species can get free Battledome training at the Swashbuckling Academy during the festival.

"I'm training my Chomby in celebration of Chomby Day!"

Plot

[plɒt] - noun

An important event that in some way changes the course of Neopian history. Plots can involve puzzles, Battledoming, Flash game tasks and other challenges, as well as a specially drawn comic that follows the effect players' actions are having on Neopia.

"Has anyone figured out how to complete the new step of the plot?"

Prize Shop

Prize Shop

[pɹaɪz ʃɒp] - noun

A display of prizes offered to players who've completed a plot, game tournament or other special task, allowing them to pick which prize(s) they want. The more effort a player has put into the plot or event, the more and better prizes they will be able to obtain from the prize shop.

Example Usage:

"I can't wait to see what they'll put in the prize shop for this plot! Do you think they'll make a bobblehead that looks like that one villain?"

['ɹændəm ɪv'ɛnt] - noun

A message that pops up unpredictably while browsing the site, usually with the heading "Something has Happened!" Random Events may give or take away Neopoints or items, or cause changes to happen to your Neopets; however, many of them are just amusing snapshots of Neopian life (such as "A Shoyru whizzes past your head").

Example Usage:

"The Random Event I got this morning took away 5,000 NP! It hasn't been a very lucky day..."

Abbreviation for "Return of (Doctor) Sloth". The plot that followed events on Kreludor and the Virtupets Space Station in Year Ten. Infamous for its very hard cryptography puzzles.

Not to be confused with the Shockwave game The Return of the Return of Doctor Sloth.

Example Usage:

"I like a good puzzle plot, but if it gets as hard as the RoS coded messages I might have to curl up and gibber for a while."

An abbreviation of the words "Something Has Happened!" that appear at the top of Random Events. The weird and wonderful events that happen while browsing the site.

Style Showdown

[staɪəl ʃoʊːdaʊn] - noun

A Neopia-wide fashion show. Players are invited to dress up their Neopets according to the theme of the event (past themes have included "Ready for Adventure" and "Masked in Mystery"). There are prizes for the best outfits, as chosen by the Neopets Team.
Not to be confused with the weekly Customisation Contest, which has no theme and gives out only trophies.

Example Usage:

"I spent 99k on this hat just to complete my Techo's Style Showdown outfit! Hope it catches the judges' eye..."

Abbreviation for "The Faeries' Ruin". A plot that took place in Year Twelve. It followed events after Neopia's Faeries were turned into statues, and featured popular heroes Hanso and Brynneth.

"I really enjoyed the twists and turns the story took in TFR. I never would have expected who the real villain turned out to be!"

Abbreviation of "Tale of Woe". The Year 8 plot that followed events in a small Haunted Woods village, featuring Gilly the plucky little Usul and Bruno the mutated Gelert. Fondly remembered for its frustrating-but-fun process-of-elimination puzzles involving potions.

Example Usage:

"There were too many individual activities in the latest plot. I'd like to see more of a return to ToW's community solving spirit."

Usukicon

[uː'suːkiːkɒn] - noun

An annual celebration of Usuki Dolls. Although all that normally happens is the creation of some new Usukis, the Neopedia describes Usukicon as a festival where Usuki fans can show off their collections and socialise.

"This rare Usuki was only sold during last year's Usukicon."
