Why (Not) Use NeoPass
You may be wondering why you should (or should not) sign up for NeoPass, as opposed to continuing to log in to Neopets.com using passwords as you always have.
Why Use NeoPass
TNT lists five "perks and features" on their NeoPass info page, however, we'd like to offer our own list (with some overlap) for your consideration!
- Best available data & account security: The technology behind NeoPass is an upgrade to managing your data and protecting your account on Neopets, especially when 2FA is enabled, and especially compared to using a standard password on Neopets.com.
- Easy(ish) to switch accounts: With NeoPass, you can switch between main and sides with a few clicks, without the need to manage multiple passwords or use workarounds like multiple browser profiles, browsers, or devices.
- Stay logged in on multiple devices: Any player who uses both computer and mobile for Neopets knows it can be a small pain to log in when changing devices. NeoPass allows you to stay logged in on multiple devices without needing to reenter your passwords.
- Use of the Companion App: Logging in to the Neopets Companion App on mobile requires NeoPass.
- Tales of Dacardia and Faerie Fragments rewards on Neopets.com: The only way to claim rewards on Neopets.com from Tales of Dacardia or Faerie Fragments is if they are connected through NeoPass. The NeoPass info page also suggests there may be "members-only content and special rewards" exclusive to NeoPass users in the future.
- Neopets Shop account creation: When the official Neopets Shop relaunched in late July 2024, the only way to create an account was using NeoPass. An account is not necessary to make purchases, but offers the benefits of order history, saved addresses, and a wishlist tool.
- You want to create a new side account: After the release of NeoPass, it is no longer possible to create a new account without NeoPass. If you want a new side account, you must use NeoPass.
- You don't already have an account: If you're a new player (or a returning player whose original accounts have long been purged), well, you don't have a choice! All new accounts must be made through NeoPass.
Why Not Bother With NeoPass?
If the above reasons don't entice you, there's no real reason at this time to rush into onboarding onto NeoPass. NeoPass is completely optional for existing accounts.
When NeoPass was first released in March 2024, it came with a few bugs, particularly when trying to do anything in the Premium portal or Neocash portal. Although these have since been resolved, some users may still cite fears about these issues in particular or bugginess in general as a reason to delay or decline using NeoPass.
