Monster Battles

Monster Battles were introduced in version 1.6.0 of the game as new mechanic outside of the app's main story. The Claymaker has unleashed powerful monsters all across Neopia and in exchange for defeating them, Fyora is offering powerful rewards.

The Monster Battles serve as the main way of earning Ascension Stones, a currency introduced in version 1.6.0 that is needed to Ascend characters to new star rating. Therefore, participating in the Monster Battles is advised to level up your team to be powerful enough to continue in the main story.

You can access Monster Battles from the icon on the app's main screen after loading it up.

Each week, one of four possible bosses will be available in the Monster Battles, one representing each element. Although the prizes are similar between bosses, each offers characters according to their own element. Bosses do not drop random loot after every battle as normal enemies do in the main game. Instead, there are fixed loot drops for 'tiers', that is, beating the boss a specific number of times. Each time you defeat the boss, it increases in power, making unlocking each new tier progressively more difficult.

In order to participate in a battle, you will need Monster Keys. You will be charged 3 keys per battle (successful or not) for a full team taken into battle. If you select an additional friend or random Neopet to help you, you will be charged an additional 2 keys per battle. Each time a new boss appears, your key count will be reset to 20 provided you had less than 10 keys at reset. However, new keys can be purchased from the app's Gem Store for real life money at any time. If you key total drops below 10, you will begin to earn additional free keys at a rate of 1 per 8 hours until you are once again over 10 keys.

As the Monster Battles take place outside of the main game, they all share a unique board that has different positions of potions and bombs to the one you play with in the story:

Leaderboard

There is also a leaderboard, where you can see how many times people have beaten the current boss. This leaderboard will reset each time a new boss is released. Each week, prizes are awarded to the top ten of the leaderboard at reset. The prizes are:

Bosses

Currently, there are four bosses that are available. It is unknown if more will be added in the future.

Magmavipor

The Claymaker forges these monsters from Neopia's volcanoes. The swift slitherers live in gigantic lava pockets until they're forced out by immense seismic activity. They burn a path through forests and towns, destroying everything in their way.

Special Attack

Coiler Boiler It coils its tail around a foe and sizzles immense damage.

Damage target enemy for X (200 + 175% of Attack), 60% chance to decrease health of an enemy by X (150 + 25% of Attack) for each turn for 5 turns, 80% chance to decrease armor of all enemies by X (20 + 25% of Armor) for 2 turns, 2 Cooldown

Skellectrus

The Claymaker draws lightning into ancient stones and uses it to carve out these terrifying creatures. They're drawn to electricity so any towns that survive an electric storm are often faced with these monstrous beasts.

Special Attack

Shocking Reassembly! Broken pieces of its mighty armor electromagnetically fly back into place, regaining lost health.

Heal self for X (50 + 5% of Health), 75% chance to increase Attack of self by X (100 + 100% of Attack) for each turn for 1 turns, 30% chance to decrease health of all enemies by X (150 + 50% of Attack) for each turn for 2 turns, 1 Cooldown

Maelstromo

While out at sea, the Claymaker forms these sea monsters from violent waves. They become masters of tidal manipulation. All of them are drawn to coastal towns to test their powers.

Special Attack

Guided Cyclones Guided Cyclones: It pulls in cyclones from the oceans and engulfs all foes with devastating damage.

Damage all enemies for X (250 + 75% of Attack), 80% chance to decrease armor of all enemies by X (20 +25% of Armor) for 2 turns, 1 Cooldown

Snickering Shardpelt

These creatures are molded from the remnants of devastating rockslides. They emerge from the ground with a ferocious sense of humor that usually involves smashing boulders with their fists.

Special Attack

Quake N' Chuckle It stomps and hammers both ground and foe with a force of an earthquake, dealing damage. Then, it laughs.

Damage target enemy for X (0 + 200% of Attack), 75% chance to increase Speed of self by X (50 + 50% of Armor) for 3 turns, 50% chance to increase Critical Chance of self by X (40 + 50% of Armor) for 2 turns, 4 Cooldown
