The servers powering the game were slated to shut down on December 31, 2020 and end game play, but were not shut off until September 2022.
Challenge of Challenges
Launched in version 1.11.0, the Challenge of Challenges is a limited time event in Legends and Letters that lasts for one week and restarts each Sunday evening. For one week out of every month, it also offers additional prizes that can be redeemed on and used by your Neopets.com account. This is currently the only way you can earn prizes for your main Neopets account through the app.
Accessing the Challenges
The Challenge of Challenges can be accessed through the app's main page by tapping on the icon labelled 'Challenges', which differs depending on whether crossover week is active or not:

The Challenges
The challenges operate much like the daily quests. Each weekday while the event is running, users will be presented with a new task to complete. Which challenge they have to complete is randomly selected, but can be refreshed once per day if desired.
There are five challenges released during the week, one per day. Note that for this event, each "day" actually resets at 4:00 PM NST (which is 12:00 Midnight UTC time). (Note that during daylight savings time over the summer, the challenges reset daily at 5:00 PM NST, which is still midnight UTC.)
If you miss a challenge for a particular day, you can spend 25 gems (for day 1, 2, or 3) or 50 gems (for day 4 or 5) to complete the challenge automatically and receive the rewards for that challenge (without needing to fulfill the challenge's task).
At the weekend, an additional Grand Challenge is unlocked to those who have previously completed all five weekday challenges.
Re-Rolling a Challenge
If the daily challenge you received is not achievable, or you simply want the chance at a different challenge, you have the opportunity to re-roll it by tapping the arrow in a circle on the right side. You may re-roll once per day, so use this wisely.
Challenge List
Below is a list of all the challenges, and the different daily variations (they increase in difficulty as the week goes on):
All For One!
Day 1 - 3: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 1 times without losing a hero.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 2 times without losing a hero.
Grand Challenge: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 3 times without losing a hero.
Tip: This requires reaching level 14 in the Krawk Island map to access. Once unlocked, tap Monster Battles from the Home screen to battle the current weekly monster. If your cards are not surviving the monster's attacks, try bringing only your party leader pet along with a really strong pet from a friend for this challenge. Note that bringing a friend will cost 5 Monster Keys instead of the normal 3. (You will receive 10 free Monster Keys per week. If you need to use more than 10, you will receive 1 more key every 8 hours after your key count falls below 10, or you will need to purchase them from the store.)

All Out Attack!
Day 1 - 3: Use a character's special ability to damage all enemies 10 times.
Day 4 - 5: Use a character's special ability to damage all enemies 20 times.
Grand Challenge: Use a character's special ability to damage all enemies 30 times.
All Too Easy!
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 10 foes in a single turn.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 15 foes in a single turn.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 25 foes in a single turn.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and have an enemy go from 100% health to 0% health during one turn. You will need to accumulate your 10-15 one turn defeats over multiple turns and multiple battles (since a wave cannot have 10 enemies).
To have your team attack the same enemy in one turn for a better chance of defeat, tap on the enemy before you submit a word. A white target will show up, indicating that all of your team members will target their attacks on that one enemy:
Bomb Specialist
Day 1-3: Deal damage to at least 10 enemies with the tablet's bombs in any world.
Day 4-5: Deal damage to at least 15 enemies with the tablet's bombs in any world.
Grand Challenge: Deal damage to at least 25 enemies with the tablet's bombs in Maraqua world.
Consonant Challenge
Day 1 - 3: Make 10 words with at least 3 consonants on the tablet.
Day 4 - 5: Make 20 words with at least 3 consonants on the tablet.
Grand Challenge: Make 20 words with at least 4 consonants on the tablet.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and submit valid words that with 3 (or 4) consonants (letters that are not A, E, I, O, or U).
Heavy Healer
Day 1 - 3: Use a character's special ability to heal all friendlies 10 times.
Day 4 - 5: Use a character's special ability to heal all friendlies 20 times.
Grand Challenge: Use a character's special ability to heal all friendlies 30 times.
Helping Paw
Day 1 - 3: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 1 times with a friend's Neopet.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 2 times with a friend's Neopet.
Grand Challenge: Defeat the Claymaker's monsters 3 times with a friend's Neopet.
Tip: This requires reaching level 14 in the Krawk Island map to access. Once unlocked, tap Monster Battles from the Home screen to battle the current weekly monster. This challenge requires bringing a friend's Neopet which will cost 5 Monster Keys (instead of only 3 for battling with your own party).

Letter Limits
Day 1 - 3: Make 10 "4" letter words on the mystical tablet.
Day 4 - 5: Make 15 "4" letter words on the mystical tablet.
Grand Challenge: Make 25 "4" letter words on the mystical tablet.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and submit valid words that are only 4 letters long.
Monster Mashing
Day 1 - 3: Defeat one of the Claymaker's monsters 1 times.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat one of the Claymaker's monsters 3 times.
Grand Challenge: Defeat one of the Claymaker's monsters 5 times.
Tip: This requires reaching level 14 in the Krawk Island map to access. Once unlocked, tap Monster Battles from the Home screen to battle the current weekly monster. (You will receive 10 free Monster Keys per week. If you need to use more than 10, you will receive 1 more key every 8 hours after your key count falls below 10, or you will need to purchase them from the store.)

Mystical Restraint!
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 3 levels without using the tablet's bombs or health potions in any world.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 8 levels without using the tablet's bombs or health potions in any world.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 10 levels without using the tablet's bombs or health potions in any world.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and avoid triggering the bombs or health potions on the board.
If your team is powerful enough, you can also use the Autoplay feature which will play through for you without needing to place words on the tablet (and avoid triggering bombs and health potions all together):

Ocean Warrior
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 15 "water element" foes.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 25 "water element" foes.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 35 "water element" foes.
On Fire!
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 15 "fire element" enemies.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 25 "fire element" enemies.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 35 "fire element" enemies.
Power-Shy
Day 1 - 3: Be victorious in 8 levels without using power-ups in any world.
Day 4 - 5: Be victorious in 12 levels without using power-ups in any world.
Grand Challenge: Be victorious in 15 levels without using power-ups in any world.
Self-Love
Day 1 - 3: Use a character's special ability to heal themselves 10 times.
Day 4 - 5: Use a character's special ability to heal themselves 20 times.
Grand Challenge: Use a character's special ability to heal themselves 30 times.
Shocking Challenge!
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 15 "lightning element" enemies.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 25 "lightning element" enemies.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 35 "lightning element" enemies.
Slayer
Day 1 - 3: Deal 20,000 damage to one of the Claymaker's monsters.
Day 4 - 5: Deal 40,000 damage to one of the Claymaker's monsters.
Grand Challenge: Deal 80,000 damage to one of the Claymaker's monsters.
Tip: This requires reaching level 14 in the Krawk Island map to access. Once unlocked, tap Monster Battles from the Home screen to battle the current weekly monster. The damage you must deal is accumulated over multiple battles, so you need not reach the requirement in one single battle. (You will receive 10 free Monster Keys per week. If you need to use more than 10, you will receive 1 more key every 8 hours after your key count falls below 10, or you will need to purchase them from the store.)

Specialist
Day 1 - 3: Deal "special ability" damage 15 times with any friendly.
Day 4 - 5: Deal "special ability" damage 25 times with any friendly.
Grand Challenge: Deal "special ability" damage 40 times with any friendly.
Subterranean
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 15 "earth element" foes.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 25 "earth element" foes.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 35 "earth element" foes.
Totality
Day 1 - 3: Deal a total of 25,000 damage to enemies.
Day 4 - 5: Deal a total of 50,000 damage to enemies.
Grand Challenge: Deal a total of 100,000 damage to enemies.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and have your heroes deal damage. You can accumulate 25,000, 50,000 or 100,000 damage over multiple battles.
True Survivor
Day 1 - 3: Survive 8 waves without losing a friendly in any world to complete the challenge.
Day 4 - 5: Survive 12 waves without losing a friendly in Maraqua world to complete the challenge.
Grand Challenge: Survive 20 waves without losing a friendly in Maraqua world to complete the challenge.
Tip: A level can have one or more "waves" of enemies, so a single battle can count for two or more "waves" if your team lasts through the end. If your team isn't powered up yet, we recommend playing on Easy difficulty levels. To unlock Maraqua, you must beat Krawk Island level 20 on Easy.
Villainous
Day 1 - 3: Defeat 4 boss levels without losing a friendly in any world.
Day 4 - 5: Defeat 6 boss levels without losing a friendly in any world.
Grand Challenge: Defeat 10 boss levels without losing a friendly in Maraqua world.
Tip: A "boss level" is indicated by an orange monster face icon on the wave progress indicator at the top of the screen while in a battle:

Vowel Challenge
Day 1 - 3: Make 5 words with at least 2 vowels on the tablet.
Day 4 - 5: Make 10 words with at least 2 vowels on the tablet.
Grand Challenge: Make 20 words with at least 2 vowels on the tablet.
Tip: To complete this challenge, you simply need to battle in any level and submit valid words that use 2+ vowels (A, E, I, O, U).
Challenge Prizes
Completing the challenge will award loot in the app, and the prizes are the same for all users. If Crossover Week is active, loot will also be granted on the main Neopets site in your inventory (provided you have previously linked your Neopets and Legends and Letters accounts).
Legends and Letters in-app prizes are:
- Day 1: 1,500 Coins
- Day 2: 1,500 Coins
- Day 3: 1,500 Coins
- Day 4: 15 Gems, Gold Chest x2 (containing Healing Potion x2)
- Day 5: 15 Gems, Gold Chest x2 (containing Healing Potion x2)
- Grand Challenge: 50 Gems
During Crossover week, in addition to the in-app prizes above, you will also receive one of the following items in your Neopets.com inventory for each challenge completed if you have an account linked:
Days 1, 2, and 3: Sturdy Chest |
Days 4 and 5: Finest Chest |
Grand Challenge: Legendary Chest |
Each chest is openable and will award one item to your inventory. Click on each chest above to see possible prizes.
For participating in Crossover week, you will also receive an avatar on Neopets.com:
L&L - Bravo, Aurrick! / Guide
Complete at least one challenge during Crossover Week in the Legends and Letters mobile app. The Challenge of Challenges is available weekly in the app, but the Neopets.com awards (including this avatar) are only available one week per month.
This avatar does not increase your total avatar count.
Legends and Letters was removed from app stores on July 22, 2020, and officially shut down on December 31, 2020. The last Crossover Week was hosted from June 28th through July 5th, with this avatar effectively retiring at that time.

The trophies and avatar you receive on Neopets.com are currently manually awarded by TNT, so the exact time when you will receive these on your account varies after each Crossover Week.
Crossover Week History
Crossover Week occurred every four weeks. Crossover Week was discontinued with the game's removal from the app stores, with the last event occurring from June 28th to July 5th in 2020.

The start and end times are based on the UTC timezone, which does not follow Daylight Savings (springing forward or falling back).
The trophies and avatar rewards for the April 5th, May 3rd, and May 31st 2020 Crossover Weeks were delayed and awarded on June 25, 2020.
After support for the app was discontinued in July 2020, Crossover weeks were also discontinued. However, since the app servers were not properly shut down (allowing game play to continue), there have been two instances of Crossover weeks activating and awarding prizes:
- October 25, 2020 5:00 PM NST through November 1, 2020 4:59 PM NST
- October 31, 2021 5:00 PM NST through November 7, 2021 4:59 PM NST
These Crossover weeks activated due to a bug. It's unknown exactly why, but it's likely since Crossover weeks were initially started in late October 2019, the theory is that there's still some code hiding out that activates a Crossover week the last Sunday of October.
Avatars and trophies were not awarded on Neopets.com for the October 2020 or October 2021 Crossover Weeks.
