Intro

Kiko Match, the classic memory-testing game, avenges again with its third iteration. Flip cards to discover pairs of the roundest Neopet, the Kiko! Uncover images of most Kiko colour combos in this underwater world. Gotta match 'em all!

Is my match in there?

It is playable on Neopets.com and in the Neopets Companion App. Both versions are linked meaning your scores in-app and in the Neopets Games Room count towards the same daily send limit.

How to Play

The board in Kiko Match consists of face-down cards, laid out in a grid. To play, first select your desired grid size from the menu. Then, click on a card with your mouse (or tap it on mobile) to flip it over, then click on a second card. If both cards feature the same Kiko colour, it's a match, and the cards will remain face up on the board. If the cards don't match, they will briefly outline in red and then they will be flipped back over. To win, you must remember where cards are and make matches to complete the board.

What do you mean Green and Spotted aren't the same?!

The game consists of only a single round with the timer counting up. Each click of a card counts as a move taken. There are bonuses awarded for how quickly you solve the board and for the fewest number of moves, with your final score potentially multiplied based on the grid size chosen.

These are all the Kikos you may possibly encounter, sorted by similar colouration, with a few truly unique standouts at the end. It is random which colours you will encounter in a given game and the possibilities are not limited by grid size.

Scoring

Your score the is sum of your time bonus and move bonus, multiplied by a difficulty bonus based on the grid size.

The difficulty multipliers are:

  • 4x4 — x1
    (no increase)
  • 4x5 — x1.2
    (20% increase)
  • 5x6 — x1.4
    (40% increase)
  • 6x6 — x1.6
    (60% increase)

In general, the larger the grid size you play, the more points you can earn. You should try to finish a round as quickly as possible, and in as few moves as possible.

Move Bonuses

Each difficulty has a move bonus, which decrements by 30 points for every additional pair of cards clicked. The move bonus is worth more for each increasing grid difficulty.

Move bonus limit! Due to a glitch, the maximum possible move bonus is 480 points. If you complete any board in few enough moves that would award more than 480 points, the game will freeze and you will be unable to send the score.

Time Bonuses

Each difficulty also has a time bonus, which will count down at a rate of one point per second while you play. The time bonus is worth more for each increasing grid difficulty.

Strategy

The easiest way to keep track of where you've seen which cards is to remember them in the sequence that you've seen them. It's helpful to always start from the same corner, and to turn cards over in the same order. This makes it easier to keep track of where the cards are, as the third card in your remembered sequence will be the third card from the corner you start at.

You may also try noting out the order on paper, utilising shorthand for colours, to minimize your total moves. This may eat into your time bonus a bit, but the move bonus is worth more points than the time taken to do this.

Another less-effective technique is to seek out specific cards (such as all of the blue-coloured Kikos), ignoring all else. While you can find cards very quickly using this strategy, it may not work well since you don't know which cards are present on the board—you may have lots of blues, or none!

Quick Tips

  • Start in one corner, and work your way in the same direction every round to better remember the locations of cards.
  • Try to remember the Kikos by whatever concise descriptor works for you, which may be the actual colour name for some.

Differences from the Previous Version

There are several differences to keep in mind if you're used to playing Kiko Match II.

  • Animations of the card flipping can no longer be turned off. Over the course of a game, the time spent waiting for the animations of cards flipping over can cost you valuable seconds, and unfortunately this is now a fate everyone must suffer.
  • There is only one round. Each game only has a single round to play instead of numerous rounds with increasing difficulty.
  • There is no time limit. As the timer now counts up, you can no longer time out of the game—only lose out on bonus points if you take too long to complete the board.
  • There is no high score table or trophies. Trophies are only awarded for gameplay with the previous version.
  • There are many more Kiko cards now. Unlike the previous version, all cards will have the same background colour, and there are 68 possible colours to encounter instead of the previous 10 poses/colours. This makes it more difficult to hunt for specific poses and impossible to seek specific backgrounds to quickly pair those cards.

My High Scores

The game does show up in your My High Scores listing and thus counts towards the Top Gamer avatar. However, it shows up with name "Kiko (CA)" rather than Kiko Match III. The "CA" presumably is short for "companion app" which this game was added to alongside the app's worldwide release.
