[Send in a Game Tip] - [Return to the Game Guide Index] |
Within the city of Sakhmet lives Stan, a hungry teenage Kyrii who must steal to survive. Constantly chased by the city guards, Stan will need to be quick to get his hands on some fruit...and keep his wits about him to avoid capture.
Temporary morphing potions help, too!
How to Play
Grand Theft Ummagine is played almost entirely with the arrow keys, though at times you'll need to use a mouse to select items from your inventory, located in the bottom left of the screen. If you want to use WASD or some other keyboard configuration rather than the arrow keys, press the "Setup" button on the game's main menu, click on the name of the key next to the direction shown (i.e. Down Arrow), then while the text is flashing press the key you want to use.
As the game uses an isometric perspective, the directions don't perfectly relate to the arrow keys. "Down" is toward the lower-left, "up" is toward the upper-right, "left" is toward the upper-left, and "right" is toward the lower-right. When one of the directional keys is pressed, Stan will begin walking in that direction, and will only stop if he walks into something solid, reaches the edge of the level, or if you press the same key again. To walk in a different direction, simply press your directional key of choice.
Why's he guarding a single piece of fruit, anyway?
The goal of the game is to collect all of the food and items in a level, then make your way to the exit. You will only be able to complete a given stage if you have stolen everything available. The food items you will be collecting are all Lost Desert favourites: Puntec Fruits, Bagguss, Tchea Fruits, Sphinx Links, and the titular Ummagines. Along with these you will also be collecting two special items, which will help you on your way. You can only carry one of each special item at a time, so it you spot one in a level but already have one in your inventory, feel free to use it to your advantage.

Elephante Potions will transform you into an Elephante guard for a short time. While transformed, other guards will still follow you, but will not try to capture you. |

Invisibility Rings will render you invisible for a short time. Guards will be unable to see you so won't give chase, but will be able to capture you if you touch them. |
As Stan is technically a thief, and is technically robbing the city of Sakhmet blind, the Elephante guards that patrol the city will attempt to capture him on sight. Before Level 10, guards will be able to see Stan from six spaces away; afterward, security is a bit tighter, and they'll be able to see him at nine spaces. They're not too bright, however, and will have trouble finding their way around obstacles if you can trick them into the right position. You will also have to contend with cracked floors and other trapped tiles, which will instantly cause you to restart the current level should you step on one. You should also avoid stepping in water unless this guide indicates otherwise.
Beware the trap tiles!
Most stages in the game consist of a single room, but several will feature multiple sections, the screen shifting to follow you as you move from one to another. In these levels, a small array of arrows will appear next to the score in the lower-left corner, lighting up to indicate the direction of available sections. This can be useful in the game's larger, more complicated levels.
Scoring
While each item you steal is worth around 20 points, the number of points you receive is tied to the level rather than the items collected. The exceptions to this are the hidden bonus areas (detailed in the Level Solutions section below), in which you immediately receive 10 points for each piece of fruit you take. Due to these factors, while there are 64 food items to be collected throughout the game, the maximum score you can receive is 1,250.
High score table, here I come!
Level Solutions
To view a level solution, use the blue arrows or select a level from the drop-down menu below. An animation will begin to play, showing you the steps necessary to complete the level, and an accompanying text guide will appear below it. If you would like to replay the animation or restart it while it's already playing, press the Replay button.

Start by moving to the left until you're in line with the sandstone slab with a plant below it, then move down. Wait for the Elephante guard to walk in front of the wooden poles, then move to the right. Go down to the bottom edge of the level then to the left, collecting the Puntec Fruit and completing the stage.

Walk downward until you're stopped by the sandstone slab in the center of the stage and wait for the Elephante guard to approach you. Just before he reaches the row you're standing on, walk to the right, and he shouldn't try to follow. Go down to the bottom edge of the level then left, collecting the Ummagine and completing the stage.

Walk to the left, passing the grassy mound, then walk downward to the well. Move to the right until you reach the edge of the level, and wait for the Elephante guard to follow you; as soon as he's below the grassy mound, walk upward. The guard will stop below the mount, and shouldn't bother you for the rest of the level. Walk to the left, collecting the Tchea Fruit, then down to the water's edge. Go right, then down again to cross the bridge and complete the stage.

Walk to the right, passing the grassy mound, then walk downward to the hedge. Move to the left until you reach the large city wall and immediately go upward; the Elephante guard should stop below the grassy mound, and won't bother you for the rest of the level. Once above the mound, move right and collect the Ummagine, continuing to the edge of the level. Go downward to the water's edge, then left onto the bridge, and finally down again to cross the bridge and complete the stage.

Upon completion of level four, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level five when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.

Start by walking upward to the water's edge, then left to collect the Elephante Potion (see Items section above). Continue left, and the Elephante guard will start walking upward; once you've passed the palm tree, go down to the well, follow the path through the grass to the right, then follow it downward. The guard should stop at the well, and remain there for the duration of the level. Walk along the path to the left and step on the grass (I'm sure nobody will mind), turn upward to collect the Bagguss, then go left again and step on the tile to complete the stage.

Start by walking downward to the water's edge, then left to collect the Elephante Potion (see Items section above). Continue left, then step upward and stop on the first grassy mound with a palm tree on it. When the Elephante guard starts chasing you, move to the right and stand above the plant with blue flowers. Wait for the guard to reach the palm tree you had been standing by, then go upward. Once you've passed the black obelisk (beneath which the guard will stop), turn to the left, collecting the Ummagine then continuing to the tile to complete the stage.

Outside, walk downward, stopping one space above the water's edge. Go as far left as you can, turning upward and left again to cross the bridge. Walk up and collect the Elephante Potion, then walk back the way you came, being careful not to get too close to the guard. Continue to the right and stop on the sandstone stairs, then turn downward. As you're walking, select the Invisibility Ring in your inventory, activating it before you cross paths with the guard standing below the stairs. Turn right and collect the Puntec Fruit, then walk downward. Turn left and cross the center of the three bridges; your invisibility will wear off, and the guard should start chasing you. Continue to the end of the bridge then walk down, collecting the Ummagine. The guard should stop on the middle bridge, leaving you free to go to the right and cross the bottom one.
Stop on the slab at the end of the bridge and walk downward, stopping at the bottom edge of the level. Turn left and walk across the shallow water, which is a lighter shade of blue than the rest. Stop before the odd-looking patch of water on the far left end; this is a trap. Walk upward onto the grass and turn right, then walk up onto the bridge to collect the Invisibility Ring. Stop immediately once you've collected it, as the next space is a trap. Walk downward onto the grass again, stopping on the first grassy space. Turn left, then stop on the second sandy space you come across. Select the Invisibility Ring from your inventory, then walk to the left, down onto the bridge, and finally turn left and go through the purple door to complete the stage.
Upon completion of level eight, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level nine when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.

Outside, walk all the way upward into the next room, turning right at the sandstone wall. Stop at the end of the square-patterned floor tiles; the plain blue tiles to the right are trapped. Walk down two spaces, turn and walk all the way to the left, then walk down two more spaces and walk all the way back to the right. Step on the blue floor tile to the right, walk up one space to collect the Puntec Fruit, walk down again, and step back onto the square tile to the left. Walk down two spaces, go all the way to the left, down two spaces, and all the way to the right to pass through the doorway and complete the stage.

Walk back downward and to the right, going through the doorway you entered, then step downward and wait one space below the doorway. When the Elephante guard approaches, walk upward one space and turn to the right, going through the doorway once again, before turning down. The timing is a bit tricky, but you should be able to get the guard to stop in the doorway, where he will remain for the rest of the level. Walk downward and to the left, avoiding the cracked floor, and walk down through the door on the bottom wall of the room. Walk to the right and turn downward through the door of a room containing a Tchea Fruit. Stop one space into the room, turning left and stopping beside the crate before walking downward to collect the fruit. Immediately begin walking up again, to prevent the guard in the room to the right from getting out. Go back through the doorway and walk to the right, only stopping when you're above the far wall of the room at the bottom of the screen (a Bagguss should be visible in the top-right corner). Walk upward, turning to the right when you reach the top bench. Stop on the square floor tile and wait for the guard to move; right before he steps on the square tile to the right, begin moving upward. If you timed it right, when the screen shifts upward a new guard will begin chasing you, and occupy the same space as the other. Continue upward, then turn left when you reach the top of the level, turning downward as soon as you pass the tables. The guards should stop in the same space above the tables, keeping them out of the way for now.
After walking past the bottom table, turn left, and another guard (the first of the level, which we left standing by a wall) will immediately advance on you. Select the Elephante Potion from your inventory as you walk, and turn downward when you reach the door to the room above you. Walk through the doorway of the room below and collect the Ummagine to the right (avoiding the cracked floor aboev it) before going back through the door. Once outside the room, immediately walk to the right, as the guard will be waiting for you. Once you've passed the benches, turn downward, and the guard will stop above the wall. Walk down to the last bench, then turn right, collecting the Bagguss. Continue right to the wall then go upward, turning right at the square floor tile. Walk up the stone stairs and collect the Elephante Potion, then turn to the left. You will need to use the potion here, but I recommend doing so at the last possible second, to give you more time to get away from the guards that are now waiting for you. Walk down and collect the Sphinx Links, then immediately turn right to avoid the cracked floor. When you reach the stairs, go downward again, stopping only once you're between the short wall and the tables. Select the Invisibility Ring from your inventory and continue downward, collecting the Puntec Fruit before turning right and stepping on the orange floor tile to complete the stage.
Upon completion of level twelve, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level thirteen when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.

From the level's starting position, walk right until you've passed the wall, then walk one space downward and turn to the right. Go downward again to collect the Tchea Fruit (don't mind the guards, they can't reach you) and continue down until you're baside the next wall. Take one step to the left to collect the Ummagine, then take another step back to the right. Walk downward and step on the tile to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level sixteen, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level seventeen when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.

Walk downward to the bottom-right corner of the screen, collecting the Ummagine, then turn left and walk past the palm tree; an Elephante guard will begin chasing you. Walk back to the right and stand in the corner, waiting for the guard. Once he reaches the palm tree, walk upward, and he will stop below it. Turn to the left above the tree and walk to the other end of the level, turning downward before you reach the palm tree here. Go left and step on the bridge to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level nineteen, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level twenty when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.

If you gained at least 1,100 points you will receive the Grand Theft Ummagine avatar upon submitting your score, and if you played the game all the way through and entered all five bonus areas, you will have the maximum score of 1,250 points. Submitting this score early in the month could even get you the gold Grand Theft Ummagine trophy!
Quick Tips
- If a guard is chasing you, you can use an item for a last-second getaway.
- As the game isn't timed and the guards only give chase if you get too close to them, you will be able to consult this guide while playing, even in the middle of a level.
- Type the code ummaginethief during gameplay to skip the current level. Your score will decrease the first time you do this. If you continue to skip levels, your score will increase or decrease at random each time, but it will remain relatively low.
- The level codes received after levels 4, 8, 12, 16 and 19 are randomly generated for each user, so while the code you get will always work for you, it won't work for anyone else.
Fun Facts
- There are 64 food items that Stan can collect throughout the course of the game. Poor guy must be hungry!
- If you enter the Setup menu via the main menu and click on the JubJub hieroglyph in the upper-right corner, Ollie The Phantom Orange Shirt Guy will appear.
- In Level 7, if you walk straight upward after getting the Invisibility Ring you will be able to walk outside of the level boundaries and into the black area above. Glitchy!
- If you assign more than one direction to the same key in the Setup menu, the highest on the list will be given priority.
