Food-Coloured Neopets

You may have seen some pets running around Neopia that look good enough to eat. We're not talking about Biscuit, Candy, Custard, Jelly, Snot (we don't judge!), or Strawberry (except Chias!), but rather pets that resemble actual food, be it real or Neopian.

These specially-coloured pets can be hard to come by. Indeed all can be obtained with a rare Lab Ray zap, or earned for completing a quest for the Fountain Faerie, as well as morphed from the annual Premium species change perk, or even awarded from the annual Holiday Dream Neopet Giveaway. Many though have a unique item or other special method to achieve their edible look, all of which is outlined here.

For Certain Species Only

For the special food colours, your pet must already be the same species for the items to take affect. If your pet is NOT the desired species already and consumes said item, it will only make the hunger level decrease and possibly award a Gourmet Club point as applicable.

The only exception to this is the Apple Chia Morphing Potion, which can be used on any Neopet to create an Apple Chia.

How would you get a Garlic Kiko or a Garlic JubJub? -thomaskluber021093
At the moment there are a couple of options. Firstly you can try feeding your JubJub or Kiko lots of garlic. You are what you eat after all :) Alternatively you can try the Lab Ray although results may vary.

The new Orange Chia is great - but I was wondering, to get one, do we use a magical Chia popas with special Chia colours like Chokato, or do we use the Orange Paint Brush? Or both? - Hollybrockwell
At first you could paint it with the brush also but we have fixed that so you need to find a Magical Orange Chia Pop instead.

From Neopian Times, Issue #110, published September 27, 2003

Despite the Orange Chia not being able to be created with an Orange Paint Brush, TNT has allowed Strawberry Chias to be created with the Strawberry Fields Forever Paint Brush:

Hi, I was delighted to see the new strawberry Chia color. I've been thinking for years, "Other 'pets can be painted a fruity color, but why not the Chia, which is known for fruit and vegetable colors?" I like the strawberry Chia's vibrant colors. I was thinking: if someone used a Strawberry Fields Forever Paint Brush on his or her Chia, would it work, or is the Magical Strawberry Chia Pop needed? Of course, there's the Lab Ray / Fountain Faerie, because magical Chia pops are EXPENSIVE. Anyway, great work! ~_brainchild_
The strawberry Chia can be painted by either feeding it a Magical Strawberry Chia Pop OR painting it with the Strawberry Fields Forever Paint Brush. Hooray! We felt it odd that a fruit Chia wouldn't have a pop, so we made one, but we also felt it'd be silly to have a strawberry Chia that couldn't be painted with the strawberry paint brush, so you guys got both. :)

From Neopian Times, Issue #622, published November 22, 2013

Pets That Look Like Food

There are a few more pets around Neopia that have the appearance of food while not being a specific food-coloured pet. These are all available via their corresponding paint brush and the other normal means of colour changes.
