Plot Coverage: The Faeries' Ruin
Step 8 - Xandra
December 16, 3:21pm NST: It seems Oblivion has fallen once again... but at what cost?

Your Goal For This Step
For the puzzle part, block all of Xandra's shots without overloading the artefact! You want to end with a total energy absorption of less than 100%. Every blast in every turn should also result in less than 40% absorption.
For the battle part, help to defeat Oblivion by fighting him! If you're new to the Battledome, see the next section ("Quick Introduction To The Battledome").
With the exception of Punchbag Bob, all regular one-player challengers (such as The Pant Devil, Meuka, etc.) are gone. Instead, you'll be able to fight plot enemies! Woohoo!
Quick Introduction To The Battledome
On Neopets, there are items classified as Battledome items. Examples of these are the Honey Potion, Dung Catapult, and Downsize! You can equip these to your pet by going to your inventory, clicking on the item, and selecting "Equip to [PET NAME]." You can equip a maximum of 8 items.
Items can be weapons, healers, defence, or all three. They can be one-use or multiple use. Different weapons do different icons of damage. These are the different types of icons:

(From left to right: air, dark, earth, fire, light, physical, water)
Ideally, good weapons will attack with a large amount of icons as well as a variety of icons. Types such as air and light are harder for your opponent to defend against, but for one-player, this doesn't matter as much. The amount of damage you do depends on your weapon(s), your pet's strength stat, and your attack stance. If you use bottled faeries on your pet, they'll gain abilities and these can be made available in a fight by going to the abilities page. You can activate a maximum of seven abilities to use in the Battledome; the level of the ability does not matter so don't worry about that.
Equipped your weapons? Got some abilities? O-kay, now you're ready to head to the Battledome, select a one-player challenger, and begin the fight! Each turn, you can select up to two weapons to use and an ability/special attack. Abilities will deplete some of your power bar and once you're at 0%, they're no longer effective. Fierce Attack is a good stance to use and does not consume power (once your pet is level 50+, you get Berserk Attack, which is even better), but it also means you're more vulnerable to damage from your opponent, so use wisely! Tips
- Train your pets at the Swashbuckling Academy or Training School. Endurance (hit points), level, and strength are especially important.
- For detailed Battledome item information, visit our affiliate, the In-Depth Battlepedia.
- To withdraw your pet from a fight, go to the Battledome and click on the "Status" link.
- Heal your pets by using healing potions (the Healing Springs is giving out free ones if you click "Heal my Pets").

Additional notes: This is a community battle. Healing and/or giving damage to the opponent affects his overall hit points for everyone else. When fighting, using weapons that deal the icon type to the right of his name will heal him (i.e., increase his future hit points for everyone), and using weapons that do the icon type to the left of his name will damage him (i.e., lower his future hit points). |
Puzzle Directions
Choose insults to hurl at Xandra. The stronger the insult, the angrier she gets and the harder she blasts.

Hanso: Stand back, I'm about to unleash my awesome wit!
Insults
- Being shot at is really nothing new to me. *yawn*
- Could we hurry this up a little? I've got places to be.
- Did you win the Neopie for "Neopia's Nerdiest Magician"?
- Didn't you ever learn how to use your words?
- Didn't your mother teach you it's rude to try to vaporise people?
- Do you get all of your clothes from scrounging around the Money Tree, or just that rag?
- Have you ever been mistaken for a Very Stinky Cheese and rolled down a hill in Meridell?
- Here's a Neopoint, maybe you can go buy a clue with it.
- Let me guess--you're doing your best Edna impression?
- Nobody likes a homicidal maniac!
- Now I see why you needed this artefact--your magic skills stink!
- Nox must've died from laughing at your magical abilities.
- Something tells me you didn't study with the faeries long enough.
- Speckled? What, you couldn't afford a Blue Paint Brush?
- There are Petpetpets on Kreludor who could aim better than you!
- Until I met you, I didn't even know there was an Ugly Paint Brush!
- You smell funny!
- You're just jealous you'll never be as powerful as Fyora!
- You're not good with moving targets, are you?
- Your mastery of magic is like Jelly World--it doesn't exist!

Hanso: Are you sure your name isn't Laryngitis? 'Cause you're a pain in the neck!
If you're going for the "Over 9000" achievement, use insults that relate to her magic, such as:
- Did you win the Neopie for "Neopia's Nerdiest Magician"?

- Now I see why you needed this artefact--your magic skills stink!

- Until I met you, I didn't even know there was an Ugly Paint Brush!
- You're just jealous you'll never be as powerful as Fyora!

Hanso: You must be a mathematician--you add trouble, subtract rationality, divide attention, and multiply chaos!
If you're going for the "Supercharger" achievement, use mild/medium insults for five turns. They're listed below:

Achievements
![]() |
Triumph | Use every insult at least once. This can be spread over multiple attempts at this step. |
![]() |
Over 9000 | Have your artefact energy absorption be over 100% in three turns (not the same as losing in three turns, because if the blast increases the artefact's absorbed energy by over 40%, it's overkill, automatic lose, and does not count toward this achievement). The quickest way to get this is to use insults that relate to her magic abilities (see above). |
![]() |
Supercharger | Successfully complete this step (i.e., block all of Xandra's shots without overloading the artefact) at least three times in a row. Use mild insults (see above). |
Since Oblivion is back, the following achievements from previous steps are also available, if you didn't get them before.
![]() |
Medium Rare | Use a weapon that has a medium rarity (r45 to r50). Trumpet of Blasting and Sparkshooter both work. |
![]() |
Fight Me Once, Shame On You | Fight the Oblivion once in the Battledome. |
![]() |
The Three Phases of Evil | Fight the Oblivion for three phases. Phase changes are most noticeable when the icon types on either side of his name change, but sometimes, icon types do not change when a new phase begins. |
![]() |
You're Doing It Wrong | Lose to the Oblivion by using the icon type that heals him.
(Use a weapon that does the same icon type as what's shown on the right side of his name during a battle. If he uses a Thyoras Tear to block your attack, you'll have to use that weapon again. Using Cheap Rings (Cheap Air Ring, Cheap Earth Ring) and Motes (Ee Mote) are a quick way to get this achievement.) |
