Neopian Times Editorial Database

The Neopian Times Editorial is a (usually) weekly column hosted by The Neopets Team that answers questions direct from Neopians. Unfortunately, these Q&A's are not easily searched on the Neopets site, so we've created our own searchable database. Convenient for looking up past answers!

To search, just type something in the box below! (The fewer words, the better... usually.)

Hello! I just wanted to know what happened to this year's Faerie Quests Event? There's been one every year in the late Winter or Spring since 2011, and I look forward to it every year. I know you've been busy with the site conversion, but could you tell us whether there's going to be one this year? Thank you! ~~fishywoman

Yes there will be one, we are hoping for later this year!

Hello dear neostaff! In early March 2009, you released an item called Springtime Fyora Paper Doll Set. I noticed when it came out that there was a typo in the item description - the item description reads "Dress up Fyora with this sprintime paper doll set." It should presumably read Springtime. I've checked back every so often wondering when it would be fixed... but as it's now been over a decade I thought it was time to tell you! Please fix this =) Thank you!~~kittenkitten333

Donny has gone ahead and changed it thanks!

Is the collection of user information without their consent against the rules of Neopets? There is an effort to collect and aggregate the data of traded pets on the Pound Chat (PC) by a group of users. As this data collection process does not obtain the consent of those users who are unaware that in posting on the PC their information is being gathered, does this project contravene not only the rules of Neopets, but a general standard of intra-user goodwill? Please advise on this situation, as it is very serious and concerning to many who frequent the PC. If you publish this question, please remove my username. Thank you. ~~anonymous

This could be a serious issue and although the intentions on this page are probably good, it could cause some members stress as well. So, if someone does not want to be listed there or have their pet listed there they should be able to write to the petpage owner and ask to have that removed.

Months ago you would have gotten a warning for even mentioning any references to LGBTQIA+, and now Pride Month is canon in Neopia! Seeing TNT officially acknowledge Pride Month in the news post about the Rainbow Folding Fan brought the biggest smile to my face! Please remove my username and send along my gratitude to the entire team! ~~anonymous

Hi! I was browsing around the Neopian Gift Shop and noticed the item: Gingerbread Seasons Greatings Card. Shouldn't the spelling be Greetings instead? Let's get rid of the A and replace it with an E! Thanks! ~~ebere39

You are correct the spelling of this item should be "Gingerbread Seasons Greetings Card". Thanks so much for letting us know about this typo, we went ahead and fixed it!

I can only choose one? Oh wow, it is really hard to pick a favourite colour! Hmm, it's a tough decision but I would probably have to say Steampunk! ~~Aesop

Is Grarrl Saliva Soup made out of actual grarrl saliva or is it just a delicious soup served in a grarrl bowl made to LOOK like saliva? ~~isaac13579

Unfortunately I think we all know the answer to that one, even if we wish we didn't...

The Rainbow Moltenore you released for Petpet Appreciation Day still isn't activated. I'd love to show it my appreciation if you guys could activate it. ~~lacy861

Oh no! Thank you so much for letting us know. This must have gotten lost in the shuffle for Altador Cup. The Rainbow Moltenore has been activated!

Should Steam Defusing Goggles actually be called Steam DIFFUSING Goggles based on their item description, or is the current name correct? ~~isaac13579

Good catch! You are absolutely right this item should in fact be called "Steam Diffusing Goggles." Thanks for bringing that mixup to our attention. This item has now been updated with the correct spelling!

Hey, TNT. I'm a member of the OHWD board (a Haunted Woods group), and I recently designed a competition for us to participate in. I would *like* to give a paint brush to the winner. Obviously I am paying for the paint brush, and I'm not asking anybody to donate anything to me. I just literally want to give someone a prize for the competition I came up with. We're all confused as to whether or not I can do this, and I'd appreciate some clarification. I know guilds are allowed to do item prizes, but since we are not a guild, I am unsure as to whether I will get in trouble for offering an item prize for a competition among members of the board. Send my regards to the staff :) ~~cordis_die

I am sorry to be the one to say this but contests are not allowed on the boards, only in guilds. So as great as what you are doing sounds we would not be able to allow that.

Hiya TNT! First off, I love the new merch shop! The selection is great and I'm eager to see what other sort of items you all put out! That being said, is there any chance that you all would have plans to release new plushies (maybe even a Zafara plushie please :D)?~~yoshisislandbandit

Yes we are actually! Stay tuned for some soft plushie friends coming soon :)

Hi TNT! Earlier this spring, a former buyable from springtime, Negg Wreath Garland, RR'd. Would it be possible to give Bakery Display Case, an item from July 2011, the same treatment and put it in summer RR caps? Thank you for your consideration! *gives the meepits a cookie*~~topologist

Yeah sure you got it, we will actually put this in the birthday retired capsule though.

Will you ever offer the ability for us to change just the capitalization of our pets' names? Since changing the capitalization still identifies it as the same pet, it seems like it wouldn't mess up any data to offer that option, and would even out the love for pets with uncapitalized names. Thanks! (please remove username) ~~anonymous

Sorry but sadly the process to change a case of a letter in the name, is the same as change the whole name. So changing Timmy to TIMMY would be the same as changing Timmy or Oscar in the database so at this time that would not be possible.

From Neopian Times, Issue 937. JN Editorial ID: 20798

Another player said that a long time ago, they had gotten in trouble for having a pet whose name had the word 'blood' in it. I'm wondering if the word 'blood' it still a problem, with the number of items with the word in their names? Such as Dripping Blood Boots, Bloody Ghost Toast, Wraith Blood, ect. ~~fabiform

That would all depend on the context. If it's something we use on the site then the name would be fine, however if the name can be seen as violent or graphic then it would not be allowed.

Is there any chance the New/Continued Series section could be judged more regularly? It is very disheartening to get a Too Many Good Entries rejection week after week only to discover there have been NO actual entries in that section published that week. Not to mention that the Times itself does not run every week these days. ~~herdygerdy

There are always at least three Continued Series that are included in each edition of the Neopian Times. When one of these three series ends, another is chosen and added to the "New Series" section. Since Continued Series can run for many editions and tend to be the longest pieces of writing submitted to the Neopian Times, they require the most time to edit and set up. If we started a new series each week, the Continued Series section would fill up too quickly and be far too overwhelming for the editor. If you want to improve your chances of being accepted to the Continued Series section, I recommend paying close attention to the current running series and submitting your series once one of the ongoing Continued Series is wrapping up. We will also start holding over new series entries once the existing continued series only have a few parts left!

Hi. Is Whimsi Dia's name spelled with an "i" on the end on purpose for stylistic purposes? Or should it be "Whimsy?" Just wondering. ~~_brainchild_

Whimsi Dia's name is actually spelt with an "i" on the end. Those vandagyres sure have some unique names!

Hi TNT, a couple of users recently told me that neomails will get deleted from your own inbox if the user who sent the neomail gets their account frozen. I searched though and I can't find anything to suggest that's true. Instead of creating an account with the sole purpose of freezing it to test, I thought it would be better to just ask: When an account is frozen (whether self-freeze or frozen by staff), do the neomails that person sent get deleted from the recipient's inbox? ~~davymuncher

Yes, all Neomails will be removed from the recipients inbox, however they are still viewable by us so they are not completely deleted.

Hey! Can we get a little clarity on Flash games as I've been seeing conflicting comments about it. In an older editoral (Issue 927), it was stated that we wouldn't be frozen for playing the games if we were able. However, I've seen people on the boards saying that they or their friends were frozen for playing the flash games. If we have computers/browsers that are not updated and still run Flash, are we allowed to play Flash games for neopoints and trophies? Or will we be frozen for playing those games? Thanks! ~~lauraloo22

Hi,

If your browser still support Flash and you are able to play the games, then it is fine to play the games.

No one would be frozen for that unless they are cheating on the games. If they don't believe they should be frozen, please ask your friends to write in to support using the form on the Help page and support will look into it for them.

Hi! (: on two separate occasions I’ve attempted to send (long, ramble-heavy) neomails and been met with the “you are attempting to send chain mails” warning along with a counter displaying a number of total infractions. I select the “review message” option every time but have not heard back from TNT or had the counter wiped. Is my eventual and unavoidable silencing coming down the pipes, or is this function failing to work as intended? Thank you TNT, I appreciate you (: ~~lemon7773

Think of this as an error message and not a warning, a warning can only be given by a live monitor so this isn't recorded on your account and does not count against you in any way. To find out what is triggering this error message, copy and paste your message onto your petpage and it will show you which word or words is causing the error.

Since the NC Collectible Collector's Album is Flash based, is it still possible to get the bonus item if we buy all the items in a set? ~~jdb1984

Yes it is totally still possible to get the bonus item if you buy all of the items in a set! If you have already bought all of the other items in the series, the bonus should be placed in your inventory as soon as you buy the final item in that series!

From Neopian Times, Issue 935. JN Editorial ID: 20790

You've mentioned on at least two occasions that the Skarl Collectable Charm has been verified to be active. In the almost 9 years (!!) it's been active has ANYONE ever received one? I don't think so - it's as elusive as Bigfoot. Perhaps the item rarity is set too high; could you check one more time? You'd make any number of stamp collectors very happy if they could finally start appearing onsite. Thanks! ~~geneames1

van Doodle took the initiative and confirmed for us that this item is technically functional to be acquired. He did however notice that the chance users will win this charm as a prize is incredibly low, which is what makes the Skarl Collectable Charm so rare! With such a low probability I can see why you would want us to make sure, but I can assure you it is active and currently possible to receive one!

It's been a while since we had a major update to the beta site, with the occasional site theme being upgraded (which are fantastic, by the way). When can we expect another update?~~lupe_hunter_7

Here is a quick progress update! In order to concentrate on events such as the Festival of Neggs and the upcoming Altador Cup, our team had to shift our focus away from mobile updates for a time to make sure everything was running smoothly. Although we are still working hard to prepare for this year's Altador Cup, a new mobile beta update and site theme are scheduled to be released next week!
