Neopian Diseases and Cures
You wouldn't think it, but Neopia can be a pretty sickly place sometimes! With diseases ranging from Grumbles to Bloaty Belly roaming the streets, chances are that at some point your Neopets will fall ill. Whether you rely on the standard pharmacy, alternative medicines, or the Healing Springs, there's something for every pet.
Diagnosing Your Pet
So, you think your pet is sick? Well there's an easy way to check! You can tell whether pets are sick by visiting the Quick Ref page. If your pet is sick, you will see a message about what illness they have. This message will also include a handy link to the Neopian Hospital where you can view a list of all diseases, as well as fun descriptions about them. Their sickness may also be visible in their appearance.
Where to Buy Medicine
Once you know what disease your pet has, the next step is purchasing the proper medication. Check the Known Cures tables to see what type of medication to purchase. All of these items are sold in the Neopian Pharmacy, Lost Desert Medicine, or Remarkable Restoratives. You can also visit the Shop Wizard and purchase the items from fellow Neopians.
Once you've purchased an item, simply select "cure" from the dropdown menu in your inventory to give it to the appropriate pet.
Healing Strategies
If the medicine your pet needs is too expensive, don't worry. You have several options that don't involve buying the cures listed below. Your best bet is to visit the Healing Springs every 30 minutes, free of charge, until your pet is healed. Another avenue is the Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity, but it is only available once a day & the healing rate is very low.
If you're in a hurry, though, there's an option that doesn't involve the wait of the Healing Springs. You can actually give your pet a different disease that's cheaper to cure; check out our items that give diseases article for a list of items you can use. We recommend feeding your pet a Poisonous Lollypop. It's extremely cheap and will give your pet Floppy Tongue, which can be healed with a Tongue Shrinker. Please note that you are not guaranteed to come down with Floppy Tongue on the first try—you may need to feed your pet several lollypops before it works!
Reasons to Cure Your Neopet
If your Neopet is sick, it will not be able to battle in the Battledome. It will also have a sickly appearance, which is just no fun to look at!
Known Cures
The following table lists all of the illnesses that your Neopet can catch, as well as any items that are known to cure them. We have divided these items up into two different categories: guaranteed to cure and potential to cure. Items in the guaranteed category are from the Neopian Pharmacy and have a 100% success rate at healing your pet. They will heal your pet on the first attempt. The items in the potential category are purchased from Lost Desert Medicine or Remarkable Restoratives. Some are also awarded from various site events. These items, as the category name suggests, have the potential to cure your pet. They are not guaranteed to work on the first attempt and it may take many tries before they are successful.

Pteris and Worms
If you feed your sick Pteri any item with the word "worm" in its name, you will cure the Pteri of any disease it has, along with changing its hunger level all the way up to bloated. This is almost always the cheapest way to cure your Pteri.
The "Doctor Who?" Boon
Certain factions give the opportunity of activating the Doctor Who? boon if you side with them and they emerge victorious from the Battleground of the Obelisk. When selected, this boon will automatically heal your pet of any disease it contracts.
Hit Point Restorers
Some items, although labeled as medical cures, will not actually cure your pet of an illness. Rather, these items are out-of-battledome healers, similar to Healing Potions. This means that they have the ability to restore some (or all) of your pet's hit points. It may take several tries before they work, however. They are not guaranteed to work on the first attempt.
Unknown Cures
It isn't known which ailments the following items are intended to cure. If you happen to know what any of these items cure, please let us know!
Non-Cures
These items cannot be used on your pet at all, despite being labelled as cures.
Despite being labeled as a cure, the Bottled Holiday Cheer item does not cure any diseases, but rather acts as a healer in battle when equipped to your Neopet.
Glitched Items
The following items are clearly intended to cure a specific ailment based on their name and/or description yet for some reason they are glitched. Glitched is determined by when a Neopet will explicitly refuse the item, stating that it is "not the right medicine". If any of these items become fixed in the future, please let us know! We've included the disease that the item was intended for.
