Create-A-Pet
To begin your Neopian journey, head over to the Create-A-Pet page. Here, you'll select your pet's:
- Species: Choose from 42 (or sometimes 43) unique Neopet species.
- Colour: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green.
- Name: Must be unique across the site.
- Gender: Options are Male or Female.
You will also be able to choose one of the following bandanas to customize your pet:
Naming Your Neopet
- Uniqueness: Each name must be unique site-wide.
- Character Restrictions: Use only letters, numbers, and underscores (_).
- Length: Names must be between 3 and 20 characters.
Note: When choosing a name, it must be unique, case-insensitive. Fluffy, fluffy, and fLuFFy, and FLUFFY are all considered to be the same name, but whichever you choose is how it will be permanently displayed.
Personality and Starting Stats
During creation, you can personalize your Neopet with habitat and personality preferences:

- Forest
- Sea
- River
- Jungle
- Town
- City
- Mountains
- Wilderness
Hobby Options
- Gathering Food
- Exploring the Land
- Making Friends
- Hunting for Treasure
- Pestering Others
- Reading and Learning
Greeting Options
- Act Very Friendly
- Smile Sweetly
- Approach with Caution
- Stand their Ground
- Run Awaaaay!!!
- Insult from Afar
- Attack if they are Weaker
- Try and make Friends
You'll also be given three options to choose from for your pet's starting Strength, Defence, and Movement.
Once you've made your selections, click "Create" to bring your new Neopet to life!
Note: The personality and habitat choices are for fun and roleplay only and don't affect gameplay.
Special and Limited Edition Neopets
Some pets can't be created through standard means. The Draik, Grundo, Krawk, and Varwolf are never available in Create-A-Pet and have to be obtained through other methods. The following Limited Edition species are available in Create-A-Pet only on their specific pet day and the day after:
Pet Slots
If you don't have an available pet slot, you will get a prompt to purchase one or more directly. However, if you currently have the maximum number of pets, you will get a message that you have reached the slot limit.
-database_error
Occasionally, you may get a cryptic -database_error when attempting to create a Neopet. It's not known why this error occurs, but can usually be easily resolved by choosing a different colour for your pet.
Purged Petpets
Very rarely, you may create a Neopet and find it already has a very old Petpet attached to it!
This happens because a Neopet by that same name was purged from an inactive account many years ago. Apparently, the purge process does not fully delete the Petpet data, and creating a new Neopet with the same name will bring the Petpet back to life!
