The prize pools were updated at the following times in Jellyneo's recorded history:
- Summer of 2012
- Autumn of 2018
- Spring of 2023
The item prize pools for all four of these contests have traditionally been shared, but in 2023 the Caption Contest (March) and Storytelling Contest (February) moved to a new pool, leaving the Art Gallery and Poetry Gallery on an older set of prizes until mid May. The Neopian Times was eventually added to this prize pool in January of 2024 (it had previously only awarded items for special issues).
In early February of 2024, starting with Round 1478, the Caption Contest no longer awards an item prize.

Special Rounds
In special 100th rounds of the contests, things work a little differently, and this varies between contests. Some will award extra items, and some will award items instead of the regular random prize. The Art Gallery does not have any round-specific prizes.
Poetry Gallery
In the Poetry Gallery, an Alstaf Poogle collectable card is awarded in addition to the regular item prize. The exception to this was round 1,000, which awarded the Millennial Pen instead of the regular item prize, meaning that users received the pen and the collectable card. Note: Every 100th Poetry gallery is always made up of previous winners that the judge reposts, you can't physically enter this round.
Storytelling
The Storytelling 100th round awards The Storyteller collectable card in addition to the normal random item prize. However, The Storyteller is normally awarded at a later date, not along with the normal prize.
Caption Contest
Until February of 2024, the Caption Contest normally worked by awarding the regular random item prize every round. However, the 1,000th, 1,300th, 1,400th, and 1,420th rounds awarded the Ghostkerchief Pen instead of the regular random item prize. Every 10th round (formerly 100th) additionally the 'Caption Contest - Funny' avatar is awarded, and every non-10th round the 'Caption Contest - Hilarious' avatar is awarded to only the top 12 winners.
Caption Contest - Funny / Guide
Starting from Caption Contest #1400, this avatar is awarded to all 25 winners in every 10th round (#1410, #1420, #1430, etc.). Prior to contest #1400, this was awarded to winners of every 100th round. (Round #1401 winners also received the avatar but this was an exception.)
Released: April 14, 2004
Caption Contest - Hilarious / Guide
Awarded to the top 12 winners of every non-10th round of the Caption Contest starting in round #1478.
From rounds #1407 through #1477, only the top 5 winners received this avatar.
In Round #1407, all 25 winners received the avatar but this was an exception.
In Round #1420 and #1430, any winner in the top 25 who already had "Caption Contest - Funny" avatar was awarded this avatar.
Released: February 22, 2018
Neopian Times
The Neopian Times has themed issues throughout the year, such as for Halloween or Christmas. These issues typically award an item in addition to the normal random prize. This item is usually chosen by the editor of the Neopian Times, and is not the same year on year. Additionally, every 25 issues is a special anniversary edition. This issue also awards the 'Neopian Times Writer' avatar.
Neopian Times Writer / Guide
As of July 2021 (Issue #941), receive this avatar when published in a 25th, 50th, 75th, or 100th edition of the Neopian Times. Prior to issue #941, and since issue #200, you had to be published in a 50th or 100th edition.
Released: July 26, 2005
