Meerca Day Roundup

Yesterday was Meerca Day! Here's what's newly available for the species:



Valentine


Although the wings appear in the New Features and in the customisation image, they are not fully activated and so will not currently be granted if you paint your Meerca to Valentine. Hopefully TNT will correct this quickly!

A Shadow Thief outfit is available at Cog's Togs.




A terrarium is available at the Garden Centre.


The Magical Bookshop has a new book and the Super Happy Icy Fun Snow Shop has a new ice cream, both in homage to the Meerca featured throughout the 10th Birthday Celebration artwork (including in the 10th Birthday avatar). Both items use previously unreleased item images!


The Post Office has a new stamp featuring the Flaming Meerca.


And lastly, a Pet Day mystery capsule is available at the NC Mall:






Uni's Clothing is selling a Neopoint item to complement the above capsule, too:

Why are the Valentine's Meerca's wings growing out of its ears? Is it a Mega Dragonite? XD I also think it could have done without the "wrap". The bow is pretty cool though, although the Meerca's not *quite* holding on to it. The colour itself is alright too.

The Shadow Thief outfit is awesome! Such a scary, looming shadow! And with the outfit consisting of multiple pieces, I can see people using this to mix and match ^ w^

The capsule definitely breathes Card Captor Sakura, which is not at all a bad thing. Who wouldn't love their own set of magical critters, or a(nother) pretty lane with cherry blossoms? I'm.. afraid I don't recognise the Meerca outfit itself as something fitting in that universe (my first thought went to Hamtaro, but.. also not quite), so it must be some original interpretation. Not bad, not bad. Pretty cute actually.

Too bad those wings are only for Meerca...

I hate the pet day capsules that create an entirely new design without referencing the original AT ALL. So lazy.

The valentine meerca is one of the worst valentine pet designs yet. Do not like. At least the bow and arrow is kind of cute.

The shadow meerca outfit is fantastic, absolutely outstanding. Proof that they CAN make them separate pieces! Look at how versatile those items are going to be. I wish they'd do this more.

Other than that, this pet day doesn't really have anything that captures my attention. Although the cap will surely appeal to many Neopians.

Does anyone have a petpage of all the Pet Day capsule IPs they have ripped off at this point. Surprised people are saying Card Captor and the like, I thought it was obvious it was Hamtaro. It's literally blue Hamtaro.

Oh, okay, the trio of P2s wearable - that's definitely Kero Spinel and Momo inspired.

The main outfit is 100% Hamtaro though.

I can definitely see why people think the main outfit is Hamtaro inspired since that was my first thought as well. However, I think it's a little unlikely due to the "Meerca Day Y27 Mini Mystery Capsule" being a lot more blatantly inspired by it. While some elements of this Pet Day capsule remind me a lot of Cardcaptor Sakura, I'm thinking the main outfit might be more Jewelpet inspired. Though, I could see it being Precure as well.

the nc outfit defo looks very precure to me, its pretty cute, idk if i would use it on my meerca tho cuz it barely looks like a meerca

Ahh, the capsule outfit resembles Precure? I had forgotten about that series! But the petpets, the cherry blossom background and possibly even the magical circle are definitely CCS flavoured. Things can be more than one thing!

It reminds me of Jewel Pets. I've been waiting for a good color or wearable that would make me add a meerca to my pet army... I was on the fence with anniversary paintbrush but I think now NOW the time has come

Welp, now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna paint my Meerca so I can buy that shadow tail! She's wearing one of the prisma mutant tokens right now, but still...This shadow thing is perfect for her character, being a mage and having powerful summons when she requires 'em.


As for the cap - it's not Hamtaro, and they did that last year (has it been that long already?). Though I can see why people think it would be a recolor or something of him.

I didn't know the reference either way with this year's cap though.

Oh, and I also kinda like the new color, but agreed with the wings. If they were on a helmet or covering the ears, it could be a neat take, but otherwise, yeah...Idk why they're not lower on the back.

Otherwise I'm not fond of V-Day pets as it is, but at least the look isn't just "copy / pasted hearts on pink" and it has some neat accessories like the bow and arrow.
