Faerie Fragments App Update: New Event + Prizes

Following a period of maintenance, a new update was released for Faerie Fragments this morning. You may need to proactively update the app through your device's app store; you may not be forced to by the app itself!

New Event
Another in-app event has started: UsukiCon! The event runs from today through August 19, with the prize shop open for an extra week through August 26.

The event is similar in mechanics to what we've seen before. Clear levels, complete daily quests, collect Bronze Coins, and earn in-app prizes, including more "Fragments" to unlock Ascor.

There is also a paid event track with additional prizes for $6.99 USD (this will increase to $9.99 after the first two weeks of the event).

You can also earn an exclusive item prize on Neopets.com. If you have NeoPass connected and earn 3,000 Bronze Coins during the event, you will earn a new exclusive item.

Endless Challenge Updates
There are also a few changes to rebalance Endless Challenge.

You now get three attempts per day. The first attempt is still free; the second and third attempts cost 350 Coins each.
Letters will no longer appear at all on Easy mode.
Letters will appear less frequently on Medium and Hard mode.
Letters will disappear more quickly on Medium and Hard mode.
Letters now have indicators above them showing how many turns remain until they disappear.

If we already have Ascor, what happens if we buy more puzzle pieces?
Do you just basically get nothing? Or will it not even let you? I only unlocked Ascor recently.

Oh my bad, the guide mentions it, I missed it.
I have like 100k of those blue coins already, really could not care less

So I'll just get the Neodeck card and call it a day.
Sadly though, I keep getting stuck in really hard levels and running out of lives XD

At the very least to my convenience I am starting from level 1 so It'll be a breeze to get the necessary coins.

If you're worried about running out of lives just force close the app when you run out of moves and before you exit out of the level. It's a good way to save coins and power-ups too if you feel like passing the level would require using too many of those resources.

You don't lose a life if you close the app before you officially lose?

The envelopes are so yikes yea, I wish I hadn't saved the incredibly useless Ascor and Jorett for last

Hard mode is more like Impossible Mode with them. I made it to level FIVE before losing on my first attempt yesterday....

The envelopes are definitely for splking the difficulty and also slowing your game [not the app, but your play >,<]. While they are worth points, they are worth practically nothing In comparison to doing great on certain conditional levels [aka creating bombs, which Is already hard on Its own]. If not wrong you can wait for them to disappear on their own, but If that's still a thing, It takes too long

(thankfully I don't bother with endless challenge. Too much engaging and waste of resources to keep score within top 20 players, unless whatever's on the pool Is actually worth It)

On a side note, lately these events have been adding 3 prizes valued at 5k coins each , and that's too much, even with the 50% boosters (which tbf doesn't exactly add much unless It's for the long term. Really convenient, It's like that's what they are aiming at

)

Did anyone want three attempts for the endless challenge each day? Two already took way too long if you were trying to be on the leaderboard. I grounded it out for the last KI stamp but after one day for this round I’m already tapped out.

Similar to what @maninshi said, it’s really just another ploy to force people to interact with the app for longer in the hopes of a good on-site prize.

On a positive note, I do appreciate how often they’re restocking the prize shop now with varied timezones. At least that gets rid of some of the time pressured aspect to the grind.

I'm still going for the stamps that require you to use everyone's max ability 150 times so I appreciate the extra tries, especially now that they've made it so impossible with those stupid envelopes.

The envelopes do make it hard to get the 'get to top 100 on endless' achievement, which I still need to get. Though I'm only one character away from getting all the 'use their MAX ability 150 times on hard"

@biediep - fair, I had forgotten about the achievements and was only focused on the leaderboard.
I wish there was some kind of balancing between adding attempts to make those achievements actually achievable and not having to spend literal hours each day trying to make it on the top leaderboard for the prizes. The third attempt makes the one thing easier and the other one way harder.

I wish the onsite prize actually made sense for the Usukicon theme! It's Usuki MADNESS!!(insert appropriate number of !'s and 1's) so we get... a faerie food?
