Auction House Update

The latest victim conversion to the new site layout appears to be the Auction House!

Previously teased in an email newsletter in June, this update means the Auction House now features a similar layout to quick stock, SDBs, and user shops.


According to the newsletter, this conversion should also bring about the following quality of life changes:

  • Starting auctions from within the house, not just your inventory
  • Increasing the maximum number of items that can be auctioned at a time
  • Increasing the maximum starting price & maximum minimum bid - we've confirmed both of these are now 200 million NP (previous limits were 50 million NP)
  • Implementing a toggle for Neomail alerts
  • Expanding auction filters to have a "Guild Members Only" option
  • Adding anti-botting measures
  • Adding the ability to cancel active auctions

We'll take a deeper dive into these changes in the morning (and get cracking on a guide update!) but in the meantime, let us know your thoughts in the comments!

They also changed the starting price to be the first bid, including for auctions started BEFORE THE CHANGE.

Honestly that makes sense. I was always confused by that.

Starting price sounds to me like the minimum price you wanna sell it for.

Hello everybody, I'm overlooking something. I'm trying to put up a Baby Aisha Goodie Bag but am unable because of it's 0 NP value. Why does itemdb say that it was auctioned a week ago?

i need to zoom out to 80% for the dumb layout and text to look somewhat normal. and even then, still looks worse than the original. surprise!!

Why are the images so small and the "view" buttons so big / have so much visual weight? Its hard to look at this page. You could fit more on the page and make the images bigger by reducing the top and bottom padding on each row and giving some of that room to the images.

They changed the mechanics without warning? And made them retroactive? I wonder how much np people have been screwed out of and if tnt will make them whole.

I am also having the 0 NP problem... If it's worth 0 NP I can't list it because it's basically too cheap. So much for auctioning off rare item code prizes

I doubt the change of not allowing auctions of 0 NP items is a mistake, given they even changed the text to be "Put up for Auction (min. 200 NP value)."

Is adding more time to auctions a thing, too? These paintbrushes have been on the auctions and they'll look like they're on the verge of closing at 2 or 3... then you refresh and they're back down to number 20?!

The 200 NP minimum value was definitely a conscious choice, but I can't figure out what it was trying to accomplish. Items having an est. value is completely unrelated to whether the item is worth something or junk.

Another thing broken. I cannot add a Varwolf token for auction! Dammit! So sick of all this crap! Today I tried to update my user lookup--can't update! OMG The top padding and bottom padding are maddening!! I HATE IT!! Starting to hate a lot of things about Neopets.

I kinda doubt this change is actually gonna be helpful unless they do something about the fact that you can no longer auction off items with an "estimated value" of 0 NP no matter how much they're actually worth, as others have pointed out. And meanwhile there are still people trying to auction off super common items like Putrid Pumpkins for 10 million NP

@supergirl7140 I'm guessing here but the fluctuating duration might have something to do with the new bot countermeasures. I don't have the slightest idea how those work but it seems like they try to grab auctions at the very last second, so maybe this is a feature meant to throw them off a bit?

Why is Neopets ruining the site? The layout is awful. The price increase is great but I cant even focus on the new goofy layout to browse the layout.

This is the most infuriating change. I canā€™t even see one full listing on my phone screen now. And the fact that sellers can cancel after bids have already been placed makes me not even want to bother.

They seem to have undone this now? Seems to work like it did before ATM. The minimum anyone can bid is "starting price + minimum increment".

Also, no more sniping. Auctions get time added (not sure how much) when someone bids. So auctions can keep going forever if there's a bidding war between two buyers.

The rate of incompetent changes and flat-out mistakes is increasing exponentially this year, especially the past month, while multitudes of players have been telling them for at least 2 years all the things they're doing totally wrong that are killing the site and the experience.
And they Just Keep Doing The Same Things.

I have seen enough.

The ā€œovertimeā€ ā€œfeatureā€ is ridiculous and so is the apparent removal of any sort of capping what your next bid can be. You can increase your next bid to at least 1mil over the minimum increment now based on what I just experienced.

Having mixed feelings about the overtime feature, but while It's bad for many (It seems :x).... well, tbh Idk how to feel about It. A part of me would think It's great so whoever Is Interested In the loot can still bid for It, but the sad reality of It Is, Instead of befalling Into the sniper, now the winner Is based on who has the most Neopoints.

Kind of... Ironic? that's how It's tecnically been all this time. It just went from assumption to crude reality.

Looking forward to how they fix or outbest this scenario. whether It's good or bad, to top this out would probably be the greatest fix for auction? That should be Interesting If It ever happens. Either the fulfillment or the disappointment will be Immeasureable
