Altador Cup XX Changes Incoming

The FAQ for the Altador Cup went live this morning, and there are some BIG changes coming! Here are some of the highlights:

Scheduling & Sign Ups
The Cup will have the usual press tour and sign ups period, each lasting one week. The Press Tour will feature daily trivia questions. Find the answers on our guide.

If you miss the sign up period, you won't be able to join any team, but you can still play for prize shop points. (And of course, once you do join a team, you're locked in to that team.)

There are not many details—and this may actually be incorrect—but one FAQ implies that the Altador Cup team sign up avatars will be temporary and disappear after the Cup ends, which is not how they work today.

This year, the Cup will be much shorter: the game play period will be 9 days long and consist of 3 rounds.

  • Round 1 (Jul 6): Each team plays one random other team.
    • The 10 winners are placed in the "Upper Mid" bracket.
    • The 10 losers are placed in the "Mid" bracket.
  • Round 1 "Break" (Jul 7): No team matches, but personal prize points can be earned.
  • Round 2 (Jul 8): Each team plays one random other team from the same bracket.
    • The 5 Upper Mid winners are placed in the "Top" bracket.
    • The 5 Upper Mid losers remain in the "Upper Mid" bracket.
    • The 5 Mid winners remain in the "Mid" bracket.
    • The 5 Mid losers are placed in the "Lower" bracket.
  • Round 2 "Break" (Jul 9): No team matches, but personal prize points can be earned.
  • Round 3 (Jul 10–14): Each team plays every other team in their bracket, one per day plus one bye day per team.
Ranking System
The Ranking System is... gone!

Because the Altador Cup has undergone so many changes for 2026, and there has been feedback regarding how stressful it is to achieve the highest rank, in addition to how much players need to grind in order to achieve the highest rank, it was decided that the Ranking system would be omitted. Instead, we brought back Achievements, created an all-new team, and made a new game to play during this year's cup! With the addition of the Challenge Track as well, you can earn more rewards than ever for continuing to play!

Prize Shop Returns
The Prize Shop returns, and will be available from the start of tournament play, so you can gauge how much you want to play to redeem any prizes in the shop.

Playing games will earn you points to spend in the prize shop—no big changes here!

New Game
A new game will debut this year, as previously reported, Obstacle Course Caper, and it will also be available in the Companion App to play on the go!

Achievements Return
Achievements are coming back to the Altador Cup (after being around once during Altador Cup V!)

No specifics on what kinds of prizes achievements will have, other than they will award Prize Shop points.

Staff Tournament
There will be no TNT staff tournament this year.

Because of the extensive changes made to the Altador Cup for 2026, there simply hasn't been enough time for staff to hold a tournament. Instead our focus has gone to trying to improve the Altador Cup experience for players, providing new things to do, and bringing back older features.

If you miss the Staff Tournament though, we'd love to know! It may not be gone forever, so depending on feedback we'll definitely consider bringing it back in future years.

Challenge Track
Similar to the Void Within's Adventure Pass, the Challenge Track is debuting for this year's Altador Cup. As you rack up Prize Shop points, your progress on the Challenge Track will go up as well, earning you extra prizes.

There will be a free track for all to participate in, along with a paid version called the Champion Track. However, the paid track will be free for all Premium subscribers this time! Anyone who isn't a subscriber will be able to purchase the Champion Track in the NC Mall:

With the Press Tour now live, we're busy updating our 2026 Altador Cup guide, notably with the daily trivia answers now available for those who want to double check before answering:

No staff tournament kinda sucks. It was that sort of thing that kept the Neopets Team from feeling like Neopets™.
by bacon on June 22, 2026 10:10 AM NST
I liked the staff tournament more than the actual game lol
by academy on June 22, 2026 10:12 AM NST
Oooh, after using up all my NC I saved over the years for the Void Within Adventure Pass (I don’t ever purchase anything to do with NC), I was actually going to put my hand in my pocket and pay real money for the AC pass… but it’s free for Premium users? What a win!
by sheepmad2018 on June 22, 2026 10:14 AM NST
Also preferred staff tourney to regular AC.

Also, for this trivia, while idk if questions are assigned randomly to each user, I got this:
Who is the new captain for Team Altador?

(and reading the lore as the old captain didn't truly step down, I answered his name - it was wrong; I got NP from trying though; Maybe I shouldn't answer this stuff on a hungry brain right after work)
by overboss on June 22, 2026 10:16 AM NST
is there a reason only 3 teams are open so far??
by nclvr619 on June 22, 2026 10:16 AM NST
Wait.. If the Tournament starts on the 6th.. and winners are announced on the 15th.. Does that mean the whole AC only lasts nine days? That's.. That's not a lot of days!
by apophis324 on June 22, 2026 10:17 AM NST
(Oh sorry, it says that in this post as well. The heat is making it hard for me to focus on larger walls of text right now XD)

I don't know.. This can't quite be the AC that most people had in mind, can it? Stripped down to its bare bones basically..
by apophis324 on June 22, 2026 10:19 AM NST
@nclvr619: That's just always how the press tour works--a few teams get their press blurbs revealed each day! SIgn ups don't happen until next Monday.
by dave on June 22, 2026 10:20 AM NST JN Staff
@apophis324: It may not be even 9 days. Quoting the FAQ:
"There will be a 1-day Round Break following this Round to calculate final scores and determine the next Round's brackets."
by stormmonarch on June 22, 2026 10:21 AM NST
thats kinda awesome that the paid track is free for premium subs
by jjotterbear on June 22, 2026 10:30 AM NST
9 days? I guess I'm lucky cause I get three days off and it starts on my days off. But seriously? Not everyone has that luxury. Also, my plan to grind anime over the 30 days is ruined xD
by smallcat910 on June 22, 2026 10:34 AM NST
I've burned out on the classic format of the AC. So I'm looking forward to a shorter event. As for the new trivia questions, mine was:

Who is the new captain of Team Altador?

A: Salayne Ritad

I pulled the answer the press release for Team Altador & was relieved to see it recognized as correct! My rewards were displayed as parts:

Participation: 1,461 NP + 10 Prize Points

&

Correct Answer: 500 NP + 25 Prize Points
by sidra on June 22, 2026 10:36 AM NST
Love all the changes, but 9 days lf tournament is too short, if they wanted less days it should have been two full weeks i think.
by gauf on June 22, 2026 10:37 AM NST
Everyone be mindful of the "Altador from the Clouds 2026 - 28 Day Boarding Pass" ... There's not actually 28 days worth of unique prizes, only 14. I guess the extra 14 passes are for purchasing duplicate items? But I didn't find that out until after i purchased it in the NC Mall... I assumed it would be like Gifts From The Rift with 2 rounds of prizes but apparently not.
by kacheekieweekie on June 22, 2026 10:44 AM NST
These changes are surprisingly alright.
by superhero_moniker on June 22, 2026 10:44 AM NST
AND it's not like it the extra 14 passes can be used to gain access to the final day 14 bonus item again because the faq specifically states that's the only bonus item that can not be redeemed more than once
by kacheekieweekie on June 22, 2026 10:46 AM NST
I liked the changes; I used to play but I found the ranking system and the lengthy event annoying.
by gabistar on June 22, 2026 10:49 AM NST
calling it now. "Challenge path" will be a battle pass.
by brynchilla on June 22, 2026 10:51 AM NST
NOOOOOOO I NEED ALL STAR TO LIVE THOUGH
by polyhexian on June 22, 2026 10:52 AM NST
I'm absolutely gutted that the AC is only 9 days. I've been waiting for TWO YEARS to let loose for a full 3 weeks, and now we don't even get a tournament that's half that length? Absolute rip off. My heart is broken
by peanutbuttermilk on June 22, 2026 10:55 AM NST
pass still feeling burn from the plot
by bedomi on June 22, 2026 10:59 AM NST
Ouch, the whole tournament is while I'm not home (cousin's wedding and then work conference). Guess I'll do what I can from mobile... sucks for me when the challenge path is free for premium.
by kelsladry on June 22, 2026 11:04 AM NST
While I do appreciate most changes other than the no staff tournament part, I feel that 9 days is a little too short. 2 weeks would have been a nice middle ground
by yuunyanshi on June 22, 2026 11:04 AM NST
It's not even 9 days. It's 6 days of game play plus 3 days of break in between. Each team will only face 6 other teams.
by stormmonarch on June 22, 2026 11:06 AM NST
I hope I can still get a nice shiny trophy...
by skyheart15 on June 22, 2026 11:09 AM NST
What a time to be a stamp collector !
by armyfromnothing on June 22, 2026 11:13 AM NST
9 days are wayyyyyy too short. Three days per round? 15-20 days would be the sweet spot.
by purslane on June 22, 2026 11:25 AM NST
Do we have specific dates for when signups start, when tournament starts, etc? Not me trying to figure out how this fits into my calendar....
by kiriska on June 22, 2026 11:45 AM NST
Oh, nevermind, I see the dates on the actual AC page on neopets. Was looking for them in the FAQ.
by kiriska on June 22, 2026 11:47 AM NST
no mention of 20th anniversary of AC? :O I was this was gonna be an extra special year
by dakukuu on June 22, 2026 11:54 AM NST
Thanks for being so fast with these updates, JN!!
by neolodgeism on June 22, 2026 11:54 AM NST
no TNT staff tournament = no intrest for me. best of luck to all who participate and like every year i hope darigan will take the cup
by scr3wdriver on June 22, 2026 12:00 PM NST
I'm pleased with the changes, I grinded all star multiple years but it was hard with work. I'm happy to not have ranks. I also burned out on the old format and didn't play much AC the last few years. Happy for a refresh
by daughters_ofthe_moon on June 22, 2026 12:03 PM NST
I'm happy for the format change, happy for the shortened tournament and hoping that it will be better. The devil is in the details, so I won't know how I really feel until I'm actually playing.
by neolodgeism on June 22, 2026 12:07 PM NST
Excited for this! Hope there's a chance at more than one new avvie
by iraisan on June 22, 2026 12:08 PM NST
being so lazy as to not even do a staff tournament, which takes zero resources, is par for the course for this stupid era of TNT's phoning in of every single thing to do with the site they supposedly operate
by purrmeister on June 22, 2026 12:12 PM NST
I'm so mad at these AC changes too - they're doing as much as they can to make it their favorite type of bland "check in once a day for a week" so they have as little to do as possible. honestly they can go into the void too for all I care, I hate this team sm
by purrmeister on June 22, 2026 12:13 PM NST
Just one stamp in the entire challenge track/battle pass? Ugh, so boring.
by dynohawk on June 22, 2026 12:15 PM NST
i'm not loving the new changes. I enjoyed playing yooyuball, and I think people just want rewards for nothing. Who did they even poll to make these changes?
by corgigal on June 22, 2026 12:34 PM NST
I was also megaa bored of the old AC format and super grind, so anything drastically new is great. Plus having a game on the companion app is a mega win for me. And the champion pass being included for premium! I liked the staff tourney but that's only because I was so bored of the main event. So I'm amped to see how it plays!
by moomoo on June 22, 2026 1:08 PM NST
As others have said, I am open to changes to the AC but disappointed that after waiting TWO years for the AC's return that its only going to be 9 (or 6 days really) of game play. I would be fine with a shorter AC event overall but this is too short!
A little bummed that there are no ranks anymore though I understand why they did that. I liked pushing myself to reach a specific rank each year...depending on what's in the prize shop this year, is it even worth it to participate at all?
Not a thing I thought I'd ever say about the AC!
by purplewarf on June 22, 2026 1:15 PM NST
Just one stamp in the entire challenge track/battle pass? Ugh, so boring.
--
trust me, it could be worse. us free users are not gettting any prizes at all!
by spotter001 on June 22, 2026 1:41 PM NST
@spotter001 - The stamp is part of the F2P track.

I agree 9 days is awfully short, I'm a bit disappointed.
The rest of the changes sound good to me, though.
by biediep on June 22, 2026 1:44 PM NST
Honestly, the F2P challenge track for this seems better than the paid version. Mostly because the free one has the stamp re-release and the paid one has no stamps at all! Curious how they decided on that given how... attractive they made the Void Within paid version.
by dave on June 22, 2026 1:48 PM NST JN Staff
The less grinding, the better.
by allanmennezess on June 22, 2026 2:07 PM NST
In all my years on/off Neopets, I’ve never participated in an AC. I might sound stupid, but what is there to do right now? Nothing other than trivia?
by flabbypotter on June 22, 2026 2:14 PM NST
I wonder how the avatar will work, since you're supposed to reach rank 1 to get the avvie. I was hoping to get one this year. I hope they're still available
by princesstarabelle on June 22, 2026 2:18 PM NST
I do think 9 days feels a bit too short, but honestly, I ground out to All Star in the last proper one, after they had already nerfed the requirements, and it still felt kind of pointlessly grindy. I don't think the AC has ever really had more than a week's worth of meaningful content, so I'm not actually going to stay mad about it being pared down to it.

But it's really a testament to how you can't please everyone, lol.
by plaguemd on June 22, 2026 2:46 PM NST
Thanks for stepping up, you Jellyrific heroes!
by breezydreams on June 22, 2026 2:54 PM NST
Ok but, how many times does one have to play a game/send score to be counted as having 'participated'? B/c I DID play several rounds of Slushie Slinger last year, and sent score. But for some reason it, didn't count for anything? So I didn't get any points, didn't have access to the prize shop and didn't get the free points TNT gave all participants last year. So I would like to not get screwed over this year.
by fozfyre on June 22, 2026 3:04 PM NST
I generally don't mess with the Altador Cup anymore, but I am terrified of them introducing a new game, given their track record.
by arktus on June 22, 2026 3:04 PM NST
sounds good to me!
by labtech468 on June 22, 2026 3:12 PM NST
I absolutely loved the year they had the achievements and hoped every year since that they would do it again. I'm looking forward to how this year will play out.
by marfbear on June 22, 2026 3:34 PM NST
Ranking system gone? So because some people felt like it was slightly too much effort to reach All-Star, nobody can. It's difficult not to feel like they're incapable of not caving to the loudest moaners with seemingly every event... Why even have a competitive event if everyone is a winner?
by remy on June 22, 2026 3:40 PM NST
Everyone is so quick to point fingers but did anyone ever consider that maybe TNT is taking into account that many people who play Neopets nowadays are adults with busy lives? I see lots of posts on Reddit about how people who play Neo now are adults and don't have the time to spare for super grindy events.

I'm pleased with these changes, honestly. I HATED Yooyuball so much. I was never good at it and it only ever frustrated me to no end. I'm all for a shorter, easier event. I'm happy with these changes.

I'm also thrilled that the "battle pass" aspect is free for premium users! It's about time we get something nifty like this. Glad to see TNT is adding more benefits for those of us who have premium. ♥
by dracyoola on June 22, 2026 4:04 PM NST
I feel like there coild have been a balance, having it only run for practically 6 days feels like an overcorrection. Losing the Staff Tournament feels likesome of that silly DNA being lost and I dunno if I'm here for it. Maybe the new minigame was intended to replace it in spirit? Maybe I'll have to play it in full each day for a full opinion.
by problematicperiplum on June 22, 2026 4:16 PM NST
As much as people here apparently love grinding, I have to imagine the AC had a disproportionately low level of overall player engagement, and TNT would see that
by neolikepets on June 22, 2026 4:21 PM NST
Pros:
- Reduced grind from playing games daily for a month
- Paid track is free for premium subs
- New Team and a new game
- New trivia question side daily for extra points

Cons:
- ACXX is only 9 days
- No Staff tourney

As an adult who is very busy i'm not against AC being shorter, but 9 feels too short. I wish they would host it for half the month or have it so one match is two days long.
July is always busy since I also do Art Fight.
by slayer_49 on June 22, 2026 4:21 PM NST
Seriously TNT what the heck is this.... why bother having the cup at all if this is what your going to give us...
by quiz_master on June 22, 2026 4:22 PM NST
Will Jellyneo do their staff tournament?
by marfbear on June 22, 2026 4:24 PM NST
Kind of devastated that there's no ranking and it's shorter. I get reducing the grind (I personally enjoy it, but not everyone does), but just change how ranking works then. The rank is the fun part for me.
by zoeyaugust1245 on June 22, 2026 4:27 PM NST
Happy for the shortened length but they have overcorrected. Hopefully the feedback is considered for future years. REALLY not liking your team getting pitted against one random team on the first day and that outcome deciding if you are in the top or bottom half of the teams for the whole tournament.
by emeraldleviathan on June 22, 2026 4:42 PM NST
I would imagine they'll do some achievements that require a higher level of investment, since that system is being reintroduced, and then some people will complain about not being able to achieve them, and the cycle of every side thinking "everyone obviously agrees with me, including the silent majority, and only a minority of vocal whiners disagrees" where in reality the silent majority don't care either way.
by plaguemd on June 22, 2026 4:47 PM NST
i'll miss the staff tournament and the ranking competition seemed core to the whole spirit. otherwise most of these changes seem good. Hopefully not too much grind, its fun to try hard at the games a few times but not much more. I think what I really wanted was just a short limit of max points a player can make over the event, like 100 times less than what serious grinders had to do to get stamps n such in past years. If this ends up playing out like that, good!
by khanstant on June 22, 2026 5:00 PM NST
I don't mind too much the fact that the Cup is going to be much shorter this year. Nine days is honestly probably about when I would normally start feeling the burnout, so that definitely works in my favor. On the other hand, I do like the idea of every team playing every other team once, but that would take 19 days now given the number of teams. Then thinking about the finals, how long do we make those? One day to double-check the rankings and one day for a final would make the actual play portion of the Cup three weeks, plus one week for sign-ups would basically make it a month, which feels too long for an adult with a full-time job and other responsibilities outside of Neopets. It was fine when I was a kid on summer vacation and had nothing better to do than devote myself to Team Meridell, but it's a bit less so now. Which is also why I don't mind the ranking system disappearing; it was just making me feel bad that I didn't have the time to grind. Then again, it helped me to keep track of how many times I'd played each game so I could remember when I should be switching things up. As for the staff tournament, I'm probably in the minority here reading these comments, but thinking about things from the lore side, I always found it a bit weird when we saw TNT getting too involved as characters on the site. While it was interesting to see which staffers root for which teams, to me it was always an interesting (and slightly jarring from a lore perspective) little side-activity but definitely not something I'm going to miss. And if it gives the staff more time to focus on, you know, actually fixing the site, then I'm 100% here for that.
by joyfulcabbage on June 22, 2026 5:11 PM NST
Re-reading everything, as far as I'm concerned the biggest miss here is that each team's performance on the first day of play determines how highly they can rank for the entire tournament. There's no chance for a come-from-behind story. If you lose on the first day of gameplay, it kinda takes half your motivation away for the rest of the tournament.
by joyfulcabbage on June 22, 2026 5:16 PM NST
I am concerned about the avatars being temporary. I really hope it doesn't cause previously acquired team avatars to disappear at the end of the event. I would be devasted to lose my Altador 2018 - Terror Mountain avatar.
by litszy on June 22, 2026 5:32 PM NST

by dave on June 22, 2026 7:37 PM NST JN Staff
I like all these changes! I'm an adult with a full-time job, so I just don't have the time like I used to in the past years. Said job also gives me the privilege of premium. I'm not surprised that TNT is going with a "battle pass" type of transaction - businesses gotta get revenue.

Also... less time spent dealing with the glitchy games and trying to submit the bugs to TNT? Always a plus. I'm keen to not have any surprises for the prize shop too (I'm still grumbling about the year with 4 album item prizes lol).

There is absolutely zero chance for TNT to please everybody. I'm also a little sad to see the staff tournament gone, and I'll miss having another All-Star trophy to add to my lookup, but whew if we were still in the pre-2024 format, I just don't have the privilege to spend that much time playing Neopets each day.
by coryldork on June 22, 2026 8:00 PM NST
On the one hand, it will be nice to not feel the pressure to grind as much. On the other, I've never gotten All-Star rank and I was really hoping to have a shot at doing so this year. (':
by drackonwood on June 22, 2026 8:15 PM NST
"basically the people who suck at games are happy with the changes."

Ah yes, master the super advanced and intricate mechanics of yooyuball
Less mindless grind for days is a big plus, so yay TNT
by bonju on June 22, 2026 8:28 PM NST
I am excited for the new changes tbh... the ranking system was exhausting and stressful
Adults with FT jobs do not have time for all that haha
by passcows on June 22, 2026 8:35 PM NST
I'm a bit disappointed to see the cup being shorter but at the same time, I never kept up with it when it was longer. Very glad to see the battle pass included with premium, I hope they maintain this standard going forward.
by therecognitionscene on June 22, 2026 8:44 PM NST
Tentatively excited for the changes, but agree that 9 days is really short for this. I know my friend (who LOVES the AC) will miss part of it due to irl stuff, so that's a bummer.

I hope the games actually work this year, it's been difficult to play yyb since it turned to html5. Hope the new game is fun!
by goldennightfox on June 22, 2026 10:09 PM NST
I don't normally comment, but I wanted to add to the voices of people who are supremely disappointed with these changes. I strongly prefer getting to face each team before the finals. I could even be ok with half, but it sounds like it is 6 at most?! It's a bit of a slap in the face I think.

One of the things I used to love about Neopets is that there was a bit of something for everyone and it was ok of there were things you didn't like or weren't good at. Now it feels like they have to make it so everyone wins everything to the point where it mostly feels like log in and click a link. Pay real money and get extra stuff.
It used to be ok if not everyone got everything

We had games challenges for those good at games (with an easy and a harder mode), there were plots with puzzles and battles with opponents who eventually became too difficult to beat (my pets were extra weak back then and that was ok). And people who like grinding get the Altador Cup (I'm here for the team bonding aspect) Plus aspects of the site for coding and art and such (which seem to be getting less and less attention).

I get that as adults most of us can't grind like we used to, but why take it away so completely from those who do? They took it from like 300 points a day to 49 points. Why not just drop to 15 or 20 days?
Or drop the cap to 30 or 25?
Why totally destroy the event for those who enjoyed it
by teresa on June 22, 2026 11:13 PM NST
My other REALLY BIG concern is that top/bottom 10 is completely decided by your first random opponent?!!! Please tell me I'm reading that wrong?!

What if the 2 who would have been 1st and 2nd face each other day 1... the loser now can't get higher than 11th place? Same as if the two lowest face each other...the winner is guaranteed top 10....

I almost would prefer single elimination like year 1. ... actually, if we are going to shorten it, could we please go back to that 😆
by teresa on June 22, 2026 11:18 PM NST
It's not exactly fair to put a team in a higher class because it faced Altador on the first day, when another is stuck in bottom tier because they had to go up against Kreludor.. No offense to supporters of those teams, but we all know who the heavy hitters always have been (and which teams aren't) and are likely to stay even now.
by apophis324 on June 23, 2026 12:02 AM NST
Okay, actually *reading* the entries of Haunted Woods and Tyrannia now (because long walls of text on a screen aren't my forte), my guess as to why the AC is only 9 days (with rest days) is because they want to add more story to it in the form of the yellow-eyed tentacle monster...
Not everything needs story, TNT. Why hadn't they used their writing powers to properly set up that TTRPG instead? (Yes, that was a different team, but if TNT likes to write stories so much, they could and should have helped them out more..)
by apophis324 on June 23, 2026 12:28 AM NST
So…no making up missed trivia days? I thought we would have the week I guess ;(
by sprite_83_4 on June 23, 2026 12:58 AM NST
I'm glad it's short and that it won't be about grinding. Because ArtFight is also in July there's no way I would've been able to do both. But this sounds much more manageable. Good changes!
by xxhopexx on June 23, 2026 3:53 AM NST
Happy for the changes lol! And this is coming from someone with 100+ game trophies Am already dog tired after work, so am glad they remove the grind, as it gets extremely tedious and boring after a while

In the FAQ for the Challenge Track and the question:

You can earn prizes by collecting points in the Altador Cup! The main way this can be done is through playing Altador Cup games (Yooyuball, Shootout Showdown, Make Some Noise, and Obstacle Course Caper)

What about Slushie Slinger??????

That was my favorite game!

i hate that because the site gets updated after i'm done for the day, that i missed out on getting points yesterday. what happened to having the first day of things for 2 days for people that miss first day stuff?!
by galux on June 23, 2026 6:29 AM NST
I missed yesterday's trivia
by janny on June 23, 2026 6:30 AM NST
Annoyed that we can't have anything if it doesn't have broad appeal. AC has problems, but removing the grind, staff tournament, and rankings does not fix it. I don't like Battledome but I'm not going to advocate nuking it just because a small fraction of players care about it lol.
by mitasui on June 23, 2026 6:41 AM NST
I despise majority of the changes. The removal of ranks, the length, and bye days most of all. Its not a tournament anymore! We don't even get to face all the teams! Why have bye days when the tournament is already super short already?? The Cup was what kept me coming back for years as a teenager, and they destroyed it.
by bumblebee_flower on June 23, 2026 7:00 AM NST
a shorter Altador Cup is a great decision. I'm sure many will be upset it's only 9 days but I think AC has become known for fatigue and repetitiveness too much, this is a nice solution to that.

Will miss the staff tournament this year and hope it comes back in the future
by jawbutch on June 23, 2026 7:02 AM NST
If TNT wanted to shorten the tournament, they should have reverted back to Altador Cup I's knock-out structure. (Especially since they're allowing people to earn points without having a team in the competition.) Maybe have a Preliminary Round against the Practice Team and then have the Top 16 progress to the next round with seedings based on how well they did. Having two random matches determining brackets means the third, fourth, fifth best teams in the competition overall could end up in the fourth tier. Bleh.
by logicalwhimsy on June 23, 2026 7:30 AM NST
These are interesting changes! I‘m looking forward to this year‘s AC because of the more chill vibe. The grind was always intense and I welcome a more relaxed approach. Thank you, TNT!
by horses_46569 on June 23, 2026 9:14 AM NST
I'm also disappointed that I checked it yesterday but got shafted because they updated only after I was off. I'm in the middle of moving and had no other time to check.
by zanzia on June 23, 2026 9:20 AM NST
Why change?? Everything is different and i hated what is been doing to the site since this new tnt come
by marduk on June 23, 2026 9:48 AM NST
I hope Slushie Slinger isn’t gone! That was my favorite game too!
by dracyoola on June 23, 2026 10:06 AM NST
Missed the first day bcos of my timezone it was posted while i was asleep and then going to work thanks for nothing ugh
by rbby16 on June 23, 2026 10:08 AM NST
@abc12345 so glad someone else gets it! It’s not about hating any of the games or being bad at them. The tediousness of the grind is exhausting. It’s overdone. I’m happy for a change to something lighter.
by dracyoola on June 23, 2026 10:09 AM NST
@logicalwhimsy - I agree, there should have been a qualifying round or something where for a couple of days teams play against the practice team to show their prowess. Then the brackets are decided based on that outcome.

That would make the matchups seem more fair.

Although we really don't know how those brackets are going to be determined, so maybe they've baked something like that into it already. Maybe they're going to match teams up based on how many players sign up for them or something.

But I agree that it doesn't feel quite right to have such consequential outcomes from the first match.
by neolodgeism on June 23, 2026 10:42 AM NST
Really hope the battlepass is reasonable. The Altador Cup is grindy enough as it is.
by duskshadowbrony on June 23, 2026 11:17 AM NST
I hope there's not a streak thing for the Trivia. I've been grieving, so I missed yesterday even though I checked the JN updates. What happened to Day 1 always being Day 1.5? Glad for a much shorter AC though.
by smileykylie16 on June 23, 2026 12:19 PM NST
Oh, I really liked the staff tournament. I don’t really like the AC games or care about sports, but I enjoyed the guessing component and also found the office / tech / meta themed items funny.
by liegelord_enforcer on June 23, 2026 3:35 PM NST
I do love the event and mini games but it can be a slog for how long it goes on sometimes
I like it only being 9 days so I can try hard just for a little while
I also like premium having the pass, that was starting to cross the line for me paying anything. Like you want subscription, battle pass AND rng micro transactions? Like where is the line and that was it for me I was about to be done with premium but maybe I'll hold on
by bakken on June 23, 2026 3:41 PM NST
Honestly? As someone with very little free time I appreciate the move away for the huge grind that AC had become, I even stopped participating altogether because it required so much time investment, so looking forward to the new format!!
by fairyalex on June 23, 2026 4:05 PM NST
I think the changes are pretty great.

I think one update they should consider next year is making it 12 or even 14 days. The first round could be 4 days long - you play 4 teams and your combined score determines your starting bracket (top or bottom half), rather than just getting 1 game and potentially being stuck in 11th place when you are a 2nd place team! I think this would be a good happy medium.
by ohsounicornly on June 23, 2026 4:25 PM NST
what day do we sign up cause I couldn't find where it said sign ups are on 6/29/26
is that right?
by katerinx on June 23, 2026 4:34 PM NST
I'm chill about achievements. I think All Star shouldn't have been nuked, even if I never get it. Some people looked forward to it. Shortening a 28 day event to 9 was totally uncalled for though... I do hope there's something else to be in it's place late that we know not about to justify such a harsh reduction in time to earn points. It feels like I'll have to grind harder for 9 days to earn anything in the prize store. If the prizes are anything like typical years. Which does not feel easier....
by xoxofate on June 23, 2026 6:15 PM NST
I missed the trivia on the 22nd. I didnt know
by imaginationodd13 on June 23, 2026 7:44 PM NST
I also missed the 22nd, echoing everyone who also wished day 1 was 1.5
by icysecret on June 23, 2026 8:00 PM NST
I'm never a fan of events starting with a 1.5 day, but it being only half a day is even less desirable. It would have been better for everyone if they just started events at midnight, rather than noon. How hard can it be to code that if you don't want to stay awake?
by apophis324 on June 23, 2026 11:52 PM NST
No ranks? I'm officially retired from the AC, which is heart breaking as I look forward to it every year. However, I refuse to keep giving this site traffic and waste my time in another "everyone wins' event. it's starting to become pathetic.
by izzyilluminaudio on June 24, 2026 5:23 AM NST
Also voting for and missing staff tournament
by nataliea on June 24, 2026 7:37 AM NST
neopets is getting soft... no rranking.. and upper mid and mid?? lol
by neomania2018 on June 24, 2026 3:46 PM NST
@izzyilluminaudio agree, 100% ..neopets used to be fun
by offensivedave on June 25, 2026 6:18 PM NST
only change i'm sad about is the lack of staff tournament, it was a nice way to get to know the people behind the scenes a little. and it was another fun thing to do.

but especially with the heat wave (who knows if it'll continue into july) i'm fine with a shorter and less grindy AC. but i was never a diehard AC fan so what does my opinion matter lol
by iloveeevee on June 26, 2026 10:28 PM NST
I wonder if there's no staff tournament cause doesn't this iteration of TNT consist of all new staff, compared to the staff we've seen in older tournaments (and have on site merch for)? Like El Picklesaur or Poptart aren't staff anymore, as far as I know?
by dracyoola on June 27, 2026 2:36 AM NST
I really don't like that it's only 9 days, i wouldn't have minded if it was shorter but i feel like 9 is too much. I think they shouldve messed with the score system to be more achievable and casual friendly. i did enjoy grinding AC. I know some people are busy / cant and shortening would be nice... but 9 is too drastic?

i'm a disabled individual who has a lot of pain, including wrist flare ups, I dont work bc i've disability so i dont experience what people who do work have on this. I also never cared for the ranking because I play the game for personal fun and idrc about winning it doesn't rlly effect me.

not to mention tbh I think this bugs me more because i can't space out my plays, AC genuinely was fun for me even if frustrating and I liked how long it lasted, shortening it is fine but 9 seems so drastic.

9 just kind of makes me not want to play it bc I will ld have to grind in quick succession with less breaks. whereas before i could take my own personal breaks between games. I think i'll get too tired to care to put effort in a short timeframe like this. I think at minimum would be like maybe ~15 days instead of 28. I'm probably most active with AC especially since last was cancelled.

I also point out that I'm autistic, so I tend to react very negatively to drastic changes, there's a chance I'll be fine with it later but right now i'm sad that it's so short. I understand some folks like it but personally it just makes me upset. I love AC and i enjoy the challenges along with it.
by cassanthia on June 27, 2026 7:29 AM NST
"Maybe I'll care about the AC for once in my 24 years on neopets " but nope, never gonna happen I suppose. Hard pass. LOL
