Team Neopia Central Revealed

With the Altador Cup due to start in just under two weeks, you may remember that TNT revealed there will be a Neopia Central team at this year's Cup, as we previously reported.

It seems that the images for the new Neopia Central team have now been uploaded, and the players revealed:

(This last one is a social media icon - not a Neoboard Avatar.)

TNT have announced that the Altador Cup's pre-tournament press will be starting on June 22nd. Will you be joining Team Neopia Central this year? Let us know in comments!

I can't stand the design of that vandagyre (it looks too 'after school special', and I hate the hands), but the team makes for a cute group. If I wasn't a staunch Krawk Island loyalist I might be tempted to switch teams. The rainbows on the uniforms - these are my people, but not my team.

Love the designs!! The Vanda is sooo giving main character energy (and in a good way!) and the Kau and Blumaroo are just perfect! The Poogle and Varwolf are nice too, nice and simple to balance things out.

They all look cool but in very different ways. Poogle's eye are a little goofy (I really miss the OG vintage poogles' eye style). Other than that, it's a good looking team! If I wasn't ride or die for Roo Island this is probably the team I'd pick.

@herdy, don't forget Motor Dahey on Team Kreludor. He's also got piercings but that hasn't stopped him.

Not sure what I was expecting for Team Tree but I don't think this was it. They don't feel...distinctive. Their colours are similar to Roo Island, Kiko Lake and Mystery Island.
Staunch Rooligan so the only one of the team I really like is the Blum (surprise surprise) but certainly not enough to draw me otherwise.

@liegelord_enforcer actually those items are already existing NC wearables (Gothic Girl Wig - but hers is styled as a ponytail, which would be cute to have - and Fully Face Pierced Wearable. Think it's nice to finally see some link between things we can dress our pets and characters

It's a nice design for this team, but still HATE that team shield and still would prefer to see a Lutari Island team instead. But they really look nice. I'm remaining with DC though

No I won't be joining Neopia Central because if it's like when Dacardia was introduced, there might be a lot of overwhelm of people playing just for the avatar and then stopping. More than your average team. That said, I would like to go back to Meridell. I miss the camaraderie.

LOGO: As I previously said I like it. I like how overall its simple with the only detailed bit being the Money Tree; a rounded triangular shield with a star at the bottom (wish it was the Neopets star though). If you were to pick one feature to represent Neopia Central it would be the Money Tree, and while a simple drawing of it it's given more details to look more lively and joyful which you want the Money Tree to look like. And while I don't exactly like the team colors, they are used nicely here and let the Money Tree's green standout; though wouldn't have minded a simple rainbow somewhere. EDIT: So enlarging the shield I discovered the background colors are four layers instead of two. Upon careful inspection the top is blue, second is green (mostly hidden by the Money Tree), third is yellow, and bottom is orange (though with how the Money Tree covers the border it smears together). I think what would have worked better if they did a four corner style: top left blue, top right orange, bottom left purple, bottom right red (that way we get in all the primary and secondary colors).

COLORS: ... WAIT A SECOND. Green & Brown? Not Yellow & Brown? But, Green & Brown are Kiko Lake's colors. Yes, Yellow seems to be their tertiary color and that's a unique combination (KL's tertiary is Black), but a lot of the time its the two main colors used to represent the team. I guess its meant to represent the colors of the Money Tree, but Neopia Central is more than just the Money Tree. What other color combo are available... Green & Blue? Neopia Central has a lot of buildings with blue. While Yellow and Brown are kind of a drab combination, it did match Neopia Central's rustic aesthetic. Eitherway, green & brown or yellow & brown, my main issue with the colors is more with the uniforms, so let's move onto that.

UNIFORMS: Rainbow sling & sash aside, if you told me this was an alternate Team Brightvale uniform I would take a few seconds to ponder. I think they were trying to have the uniforms sort of resemble the Money Tree, and it doesn't look bad, just... well, drab. I do like the star on the boots and the rainbow sling & sash, does make it feel more Neopia Central. Just wish it had more little design flairs, like maybe a shoulder guard that looked like the Wishing Well roof, or have a belt with patches that represent popular locations in Neopia Central: hamburger, wizard hat, NP coin, gavel, book, stamp, collectable card, etc..

PLAYERS: And there they are, the Varwolf player (plus an additional Vandagyre player). Not to be left out, I believe these are also the 2nd active Kau, Poogle, and Blumaroo players. And what they lack in uniform they mostly make up with hairstyles and hair decorations. And though I joke them being Team Zoomer, honestly I think Team Diversity would be more accurate:
* Spotted Vandagyre is black coded and into astrology (and if isn't obvious she's the Captain).
* Gold Poogle is your average guy though has a prosthetic right arm. Really into physical health (not a jock but loves working out and is totally vegan).
* Pink Kau is both a girly pop and muscle mama (she's also the goalie). Still a she/her, though lesbian.
* Amd there they are, our Varwolf player is a Split Varwolf. Pronouns they/them, pansexual.
* Finally, who will likely become the fan favorite, the Emo Blumaroo. "Emo isn't a Colour". You just don't get it, man, it is to her (jokes aside, I'm pretty sure she's actually a Stealthy Blumaroo minus the ninja clothes).

Joking aside, a pretty alright team. Let's be honest, if any land was going to be our token DEI team I feel Neopia Central fits.

@pikachu315111 - I never picked up on the vandagyre being potentially black-coded because of the white face, but now I can't get a vitiligo vibe out of my head. This actually makes me like the character a lot more than when I was reading them as a stocky freckled sort of Mindy Cohn type character (yeah, I'm old lol).

I still don't like the hands, though.

I mainly got the black coded vibe from the hair, I don't think I've ever seen that hair style (from what research I was able to do they're called "Afro Puffs', they even have a wikipedia article) worn by anyone but dark skinned people (it seems to be a popular hairstyle from both African and Caribbean heritage).

Interestingly enough, this Spotted Vandagyre has more of a unique spotting than your normal Spotted Vandagyre. Normal Spotted Vandagyre only have spots under and to the far side of their eyes and they're small speckles (honestly the Spotted Vandagyre looks more like it should be a Speckled Vandagyre; it's probably only Spotted because its based on the Spotted owl). But this Vandagyre not only has large spots, but also has them between their eyes. Not sure where that fits with your vitiligo vibe, and it's probably coincidental.

I am disappointed that there are no giant hamburgers or huge hot dogs in their logos. Below the tree instead of a star, there should be an iconic burger instead.

Pirate, royal, and desert paints all have jewelry. Maybe all the players that wear jewelry just visit the healing springs a lot.

@solsticesprite - Yeah, where's the beef?! I think putting a hamburger in there would make it much more Neopia Central.

I also wish the color scheme was more vibrant. It's not adequately differentiated from other teams, and it's hard to get excited about a brown and green jersey.

the 17th of June marks 2 years back on the site and I didn't participate as a kid when I used to play, and I didn't participate in last years cause my tablet couldn't handle it. Uh... Blumaroos are furry so how does that tattoo work? Or is it, like, an airbrushed stencil?

I always assumed the lack of tattoos amongst Yooyuball players (compared to, say, footballers) was because things like fur, feathers and scales kinda just got in the way.

they're sooooo cute!!!! i might pick them this year, i love the vandagyre and i dont even like vandagyres as pets haha. i like that they (mostly? entirely?) have real customization items, that's a nice thoughtful touch. i recognize the kau's contact lenses and the blumaroo's wig at least.

Still repping Meridell. I love this new crew. I'm surprised they went Money Tree and Not Burger which is often the symbol of NC. Am I the only one that adores the new Vandagyre? She's just precious. I luff her. I love how inclusive this team is, and I'm sure we'll learn even more when we get team info. Nice to see a varwolf, too. Awesome way to add a player with a limb difference, but they could have given the Poogle some more character. The Blumaroo got everyone's extra character. I like her, but she is the "tries to hard" kind of character. Nice to see stealth, though.

they're all so personal and unique!
it kind of makes me want updates to some of the existing characters tbh... at least maybe some new art with different poses...

i do feel the flag colors should have a rainbow element because green and brown is used by kiko lake, plus green and yellow is used by brightvale and mystery island... so four teams with the same colors isn't optimal

@eliz1bef - I didn't like the vandagyre at first, but they've grown on me. I think the main thing is I just really can't stand the hands, they creep me out. Very uncanny valley like Sonic the Hedgehog's human teeth in that one film.

I am a Krawk Island loyalist, but I can't help musing about switching over this year. I just love this ragtag team so much. Excellent character design on all of them. Shame about the jersey colors.

I miss poogle's classic eyes

this poogle looks goofy. They look overdesigned in an attempt to show them wearing NC accesories like the contacts, wigs, etc. I'm not sure i like it or not but it's interesting how they considered that for they design.

i like a lot of the designs for the players in this team!! i'd make some changes here and there but generally they're so cute and i appreciate little aspects of a lot of their designs

i do agree with those saying the team colors are too similar to other teams, though - multiple in fact ;o;

Wow. I think they're really cute. This team has surprised me since I didn't find the concept of a Neopia Central team to be interesting but I think it makes sense that they are a bit more fashionable than other teams because they have Uni's!! Other folks talk about the money tree and burgers and hot dogs but for me my fave parts of Central are Uni's and the Rainbow Pool so this team speaks to me in that way.

I may be tempted to switch. I usually play for Faerieland but since we had our mega year in the last proper AC, I feel like I have done my part for my now-not Queen and could try out another team.
