Well that was an underwhelming end to the plot

For completing act IV achievements, i got the same prize from Act I ?
by gauf on June 9, 2026 10:14 AM NST
That sucked.
by tanyeshka on June 9, 2026 10:15 AM NST
Is the 3 booster limit still in effect? Didn't realize the plot was ending so soon when they released the pass and I didnt start until Act 3.
by wahammy on June 9, 2026 10:18 AM NST
Dang, I was hoping they would allow you to earn more plot points for the last chapter! I missed a huge chunk last year. Oh well, still a good time!
by wolflover200056 on June 9, 2026 10:19 AM NST
Well I really, really liked Act IV. I hope we see more of Vira in the future! Advent calendar maybe?

i would've felt better about the plot ending if it hadn't taken 2 years for us to get here. oh well.

i will commend them for actually wanting to change the status quo of neopia quite a bit, though.

Underwhelming end for an underwhelming "plot".

Yay, another week to try to get Drakara's wand. I am trying to find something positive to say.
by sasquatch253 on June 9, 2026 10:21 AM NST
Does anyone have any tips for beating Drakara when you don't have the HP to live one attack? It's the only achievement I still need
by fozfyre on June 9, 2026 10:21 AM NST
I'm glad this particular story has wrapped up, but I'll miss looking forward to having a plot on the horizon. Hoping TNT has learned a lot from this, and gives us smaller, more bite-sized plots in the future that can begin and end in a single couple month span.

IMO, Neopets is best enjoyed with active story going on, and I hope the negativity around this plot doesn't turn them off from trying again.
by dave on June 9, 2026 10:22 AM NST JN Staff
Ngl, I'm a little sad there wasn't a way to get the void pb and pppb from the plot... and I do feel like the plot wrapped up very quickly at the end compared to the pacing at the start, but overall, it's still a two decade old site that put in a lot of effort to make us neo-nerds happy. And the ending, while quick, was still cute and served it's purpose. So I, TNT's greatest hater, will give them props for this endeavor. Good job guys. Plot well done.

I'm ready to move on with life now lol

Ps. Keep the 35 item limit on the bd kthx
by gigglingdeath on June 9, 2026 10:24 AM NST
I had a good time with this plot. I Think the ending was a little underwhelming but could of been a lot worse. I Was there at the start and i am looking forward to a little bit of downtime and training my pet for the next time.
by shalandar on June 9, 2026 10:24 AM NST
Noooooooooooo! I didn't get a void bomb yet!
by skyheart15 on June 9, 2026 10:26 AM NST
I'm glad it's finally over, I do hope they learn from this experience, because their heart was in the right place, but the execution was off.
I'm also glad Ozzy didn't get rainbow-fied. It's a good message to accept oneself as one is, despite struggling with depression!
by kyrette on June 9, 2026 10:26 AM NST
@gauf

I got the Recovering Faellie Foreground (from Act I) also as my Act IV achievement prize…this must be a glitch.

What did everyone else get????????
by jmo7692 on June 9, 2026 10:28 AM NST
This last chapter has been pretty disappointing to me. The writing of this episode was pretty bad and there's no new features to play with - just the same old battles, volunteering and collecting, none of which should canonically be happening at this point. I think they should have ended the plot today and given us our final prizes rather than dragging it on another week.
by morules_99 on June 9, 2026 10:29 AM NST
@jmo I got the recovering faellie foreground too
by daughters_ofthe_moon on June 9, 2026 10:31 AM NST
We're finally free! It's been an alright plot I think. Honestly it was very ambitious and it was good to see a lot of chances for everyone to engage and receive some very nice rewards. I remember the heartbreak of Hannah and the Ice Caves prizes, and even further back not being able to participate in the tyranian battles because it was just too hard to beat the enemy waves and there wasn't anything else to do. Quite honestly it's admirable how engaging this has been, despite the long hiatuses. I'm really glad to have the site back to 'normal' so we can be on to other things and I miss the art quality of the desert and maraquan plots BUT! I have had fun, so I'll count it as a win despite my griping.
by verdego on June 9, 2026 10:32 AM NST
that wrapped up quickly. i think it was cute, but also weirdly anticlimactic. overall i'm glad we had the plot, i hope the problems along the way don't stop tnt from giving us another one in the future ;w; it had a lot of potential, just the execution was lacking unfortunately.
by iloveeevee on June 9, 2026 10:35 AM NST
Everyone complained about this plot so much that TNT rushed to end it and now I see a lot of complaining about that too. I hope in the future they look only to feedback coming from people that seem to actually enjoy themselves on this site instead of those who seem to play it out of some sense of obligation.
by vivabug on June 9, 2026 10:37 AM NST
Yay, it's over.

No more gray! And I don't wanna see anymore of the void color either. Never thought I'd get sick of purple, but here we are.
by gumdrops on June 9, 2026 10:38 AM NST
@fozfyre

look on TVW neoboard for a thread by phadalusfish called Beat True Drakara + Get Villain Rush with *ANY* Pet

That's the method I used and it only took on thick smoke bomb.
by yes369 on June 9, 2026 10:38 AM NST
RIP chance to earn Void Bomb
by crabbyb0tter on June 9, 2026 10:38 AM NST
I'm also glad Ozzy didn't get rainbow-fied. It's a good message to accept oneself as one is, despite struggling with depression!

^YES, this to me was a great message!

"I couldn't love myself, and wanted others to love me." - Ozzy

Self love is so hard, but so important. If you can't love yourself, then no one can truly come close.
Also Ozzy realized that just because he's grey doesn't mean he has to be the steretotype of the color. I love this for him, and it's so great to see that he's gonna dedicate himself to self-love and care, and also rejecting the grey stereotype.

He became used to being grey, and is even now becoming to embrace it - not due to what he's done as The Painter, but he's finally found that self love he's been missing. He's beginning to realize that he's so much more than how he is on the outside.
by overboss on June 9, 2026 10:40 AM NST
I love plots, the only things I really didn't like this time was the hiatus and I also really missed the interactivity of things like the temple in the LDP or the grave digging/potion making (forgot what plot that was). I liked the puzzles most from previous plots. I've enjoyed the BD aspects this plot as it's the first time I've had a decent pet
by daughters_ofthe_moon on June 9, 2026 10:42 AM NST
@crabbyb0tter and really everybody else

Was void bomb even that good of an item? It has a chance to freeze and some damage but why not just use thundersticks? Is it because of the damage icons?
by hotwheeles on June 9, 2026 10:42 AM NST
I got the bomb and didn't realise it had a % freeze so can't even use it in my set since I use thunder sticks
by daughters_ofthe_moon on June 9, 2026 10:43 AM NST
Yay it's over!

Now let's see how TNT handle the Altador Cup.
by pirate on June 9, 2026 10:47 AM NST
@hotwheeles I didn't actually want to use it in the BD. I just wanted it because it looked cool, was worth a lot, and there was only a short window of time to get it.
by skyheart15 on June 9, 2026 10:51 AM NST
so glad this plot is over
by galux on June 9, 2026 10:54 AM NST
@skyheart15 I just needed one for my void-themed gallery, and I managed to get one... day one... and never again So I can't even give you a spare I won or anything. That was a low drop rate for sure.
by gigglingdeath on June 9, 2026 10:56 AM NST
I got the recovering Faellie FG as well. Weird.

Overall, I have to commend TNT on giving us a great story that has emotional depth, some excellent new characters and a few interesting changes to the world in a way that wasn't overly disruptive. I really enjoyed this plot despite its many issues, and I'm grateful that the team worked so hard to fix some of the issues we had with it.

I hope they take everything they learned from this and - as Dave said - use it to give us more frequent, manageable smaller events. I agree that Neopia is more fun when there's something to keep us excited.

Look at December as an example. In general it tends to be one of the funnest months in Neopia, because we have the Advent Calendar (although the most recent one was terrible) and Stocking Stufftacular to give us something to look forward to every day.

Festivals and events are a lot of fun, but I hope they can add regular story plots in at least a couple times a year.

Re: the finale of the plot - I don't know what I was expecting, but I would have liked it if they could have given us all a final set of prizes just to close things off and make us feel more rewarded for sticking with things. They wouldn't have needed to be anything earth-shattering, just something to give a sense of accomplishment and reward.

We have our trophies already, we have the prize shop. But it would be nice to have gotten a final avatar, site theme, etc. and maybe a stamp when we clicked on that final 'the end' panel. I was also sort of expecting them to add a few more things to the prize shop.
by neolodgeism on June 9, 2026 10:56 AM NST
Imagine wasting that window of time focusing on getting the DWand for not getting It anyway. DWand and MB was a huge mistake

That aside, I am disappointed. No whereabouts of Vira and Drakara after getting flushed down the Vocivus tentacle? Geez, so much atonement, Fyora the yet-to-be Ex Queen of Faerieland. And what about her wand's leftovers as well, I want to repair It and use It for my BD set. I'm sure It'll suck as much as Drakaras Wand that Isn't the Drakaras Wand you can probably get from fighting the Malevolent Being. I mean the worthless wand you get from reading pages.... (searches In Battlepedia) The Brambled Lance, yes

by skyheart15 on June 9, 2026 11:01 AM NST
Soooooooooooooo glad it's over so I don't have to look at the grey maps all over the site anymore once they return to color after this week. It's long overdue.
by obaraten on June 9, 2026 11:02 AM NST
I'm glad to have experienced the plot, but I won't lie, having it stretched over like 2 years with multiple hiatuses made it feel fatiguing sometimes. There were many times where it felt like a chore to do everything.

Kinda bummed we didn't get a Void pb or petpet Void pb as a final reward. Or at least a Void Faellie... </3
by sir_chicken on June 9, 2026 11:06 AM NST
And just like that.. it's over. I'm *almost* going to miss the repetitive steps. And even though this is the way it should be, my eyes have trouble adjusting to all the colour again XD

That being said, I have one major question: What the heck was the Orion side-story about then? What was it for? It didn't really matter in the cave and he just 'appeared' in the final boss fight, danced around a bit and fainted. What was the point of collecting those music cylinders? XD

And yeah, I agree, there are loose ends that have not been wrapped up. What about Vira. Is she reluctantly good now? Is Drakara really just a pancake in the dirt of Faerieland? Will a Faerie Council really do better than a Queen? Does that mean Faeries will pop up in every future plot because the Council needs to decide things? Since when does Faerieland rule all off Neopia? Maybe Sloth should join THEM to achieve his goals
by apophis324 on June 9, 2026 11:08 AM NST
Everyone in Neopia are so happy that they got their color back! Now we can be together again!
by kacheekfan96 on June 9, 2026 11:09 AM NST
Oh and that 85 million+ Void Essences we collected.. was just so we could heal one head of a the Luperous?
by apophis324 on June 9, 2026 11:09 AM NST
Wait, we can't continue to battle the big guy? I was chugging along trying to get the avatars but I needed more time ;; this sucks
by araeveya on June 9, 2026 11:12 AM NST
@apophis324 omg I'm cackling at the idea of a mini plot where Sloth tries to infiltrate the council by sewing on some faerie wings and prancing around with a wand LOL
by gigglingdeath on June 9, 2026 11:14 AM NST
@gigglingdeath: I mean, he may or may not be the Happiness Faerie
by apophis324 on June 9, 2026 11:15 AM NST
Feeling nothing but relief that this is over. Doesn't matter how bad the ending was because the whole thing was bad and probably damned the site forever.

The funny thing is knowing they cut chapters off this slopfest.
by infernodragon02 on June 9, 2026 11:17 AM NST
I would have liked if they removed the point limit for the last week. It would give those who missed the beginning of the plot a chance to qualify for a better trophy
by agentcpfan on June 9, 2026 11:18 AM NST
Is anyone else not being awarded the cloak properly?
by elfeofmoon on June 9, 2026 11:20 AM NST
Are there going to be final prizes on the official end next week or is that it? If not, what a colossal let down. I'm sitting on 80k points and there is nothing I even want in the shop after getting the BD stuff (which was way too cheap, should have been like 20k). Achievements especially are a total joke if you get nothing for doing them all. I only missed about 1.5k points worth of activities over 3 years, most of which was at the start where you would have needed to make degenerate life changes to maximize hospital shifts, and I have nothing more than someone who started playing halfway through this final chapter... real glad I put in the dedication.
by hexen on June 9, 2026 11:21 AM NST
@elfeofmoon: What cloak??
by lia_19_85 on June 9, 2026 11:21 AM NST
Somebody else mentioned this but… the last page didn’t have a prize or anything. Nothing to commemorate, no avatar, no stamp, not even something small or dumb. I kept clicking next thinking there was more.

Also no big prize for getting all of the achievements.

Just an odd way to end the entire plot.
by hotwheeles on June 9, 2026 11:23 AM NST
ugh I wish there was a better way to complete the lucky guess achievement. Its the only one I didn't get.
by keighty7 on June 9, 2026 11:23 AM NST
As my Act IV completion bonus, I repeatedly get a pop-up saying I've been awarded a Malevolent Being Cloak (wearable) and 100 points, but the item isn't delivered to my inventory as it says.
by fellfroschtagge on June 9, 2026 11:24 AM NST
Now if only they made Drakara's Wand available somehow.. Anything to make its exorbitant price drop a bit
by apophis324 on June 9, 2026 11:30 AM NST

by alessia on June 9, 2026 12:02 PM NST
I didn't get a popup at all and got the repeat prize of Recovering Faellie Foreground x 2 just in my inventory. I'll leave in my inventory and maybe they'll figure it out. They haven't figured out the 500 point issue from the last chapter.
by bearden61 on June 9, 2026 12:05 PM NST
ok now I got everything
by alessia on June 9, 2026 12:09 PM NST
I got no popup, but the cloak is in my inventory anyway! Yay!!
by skyheart15 on June 9, 2026 12:22 PM NST
And so it finally ends... or, I would say that, but this is still a chapter to gain points during, for some reason. All the battles are still up. The hospital is still taking volunteers. You still are encouraged to grind points. Which I think in the end is a major part of the real reason this plot felt so frustrating, beyond just being stretched way too long — none of the things we as players did felt like it had any real impact, because *every* event stuck around right up until the end. Nothing ever moved forward mechanically; we're still repelling shades from Brightvale even now. The only exception was Vocivus, which (shocker) was the only battledome opponent that actually felt like a distinct story-driven moment.

They *really* need to not do this next plot, if there is one. If you miss the window, then tough, the story called for us to move on. As is, I'm glad to see the end — if just because it means that soon I'll no longer be stuck doing digital chores. (^^; )
by flairina on June 9, 2026 12:25 PM NST
Did they just take all Vocivus's last HP away? I was still battling him throughout this morning trying to get Void Bombs and he still had a solid 1/8th of his HP left...
by jax on June 9, 2026 12:29 PM NST
(I will say it's nice to see color in Neopia again. The grayification was a neat touch at first, but as others have noted, this was *not* a good plot-based map change for us to get stuck on for two years.)
by flairina on June 9, 2026 12:30 PM NST
I wish next time that they actually tell a concise, strong story. One that focuses on like, three characters max, and each character has a distinct arc. They solve problems that are bigger than them (that they don't create themselves). Old characters are iconic for a reason... and yet I can barely remember the names of anyone in this plot that isn't Iridesia. Focus on the stories instead of the potential ad revenue and clickthrough rate, then you might have something worth experiencing...
by purrmeister on June 9, 2026 12:32 PM NST
I got the 2x foreground, a Malevolent Being Cloak has now appeared in my inventory with no message (not 2x premium)
by daughters_ofthe_moon on June 9, 2026 12:34 PM NST
For the trophies, since they changed the cap to 80K+, wouldn't that mean if I've earned 89K, I should have that trophy?
by myriamele on June 9, 2026 12:41 PM NST
i kind of wish i had the time and attention span to farm out the points but 30k points is okay
by worldhorizons on June 9, 2026 12:59 PM NST
@myriamele
If you used any chapter meter boosts, those don't count towards the trophy and that may be why it looks like you have enough points but don't have the trophy. You can check your trophy point total by going to your user lookup and finding the current trophy you have for the plot. Beneath it your trophy total is visible in parentheses.

My points earned in total on rewards page: 114,032
My points total under my trophy: 104,662
by dkeeperr1983 on June 9, 2026 1:01 PM NST
Just give everyone who beat Malevolent Being the wand. I am so unbelievably pissed how they handled it, like actually seething I've wasted 3 days of time and the opportunity cost of fighting anything else for nothing.
by hexen on June 9, 2026 1:09 PM NST
I've been fighting her for weeks and no wand, *sigh* ah well can't win them all

by contessa on June 9, 2026 1:46 PM NST
I understand some of the complaints, especially for people who have been here from the start of the plot (I just joined in time for this final act), but that ending legit made me cry in a McDonalds.

Yeah glad this particular clown show is over.

The ending was definitely a wet fart.
by gweezunstad on June 9, 2026 1:49 PM NST
Dave took the words out of my mouth. The plot may not have been perfect, to say the least. But these kinds of activities are what keep me invested in neo. It had its ups and downs, but overall, I can say I had a lot more fun with this plot around, than I would have had without any plot happening throughout that time.

So I truly hope that TNT takes this as a learning experience and feels encouraged to put out more plots in the future, rather than feeling deterred due to all the criticism.
by piratewolfie on June 9, 2026 1:53 PM NST
Wait, so they really did release a new color directly tied to the events of a plot, and then the plot doesn't actually give any way to get it? Not even at the very end? That doesn't make any sense!

I’m really upset about Vocivus. I’ve been battling him all week to try and reach 100k for that wand. I was battling him this morning and RIGHT before chapter 18 dropped… He was magically defeated. He still had a couple hundred thousand HP left. Pretty gross and unfair of TNT to do that. I know the chapter wouldn’t make sense if he wasn’t defeated, but that’s on them for continuously raising his HP.
by jbecks on June 9, 2026 4:06 PM NST
Anyways. If someone could write a “TLDR” summary of the plot, that would be cool! Between the super long hiatuses and then those huge scrolls of text this go around (that I refused to sit and read), I didn’t really grasp/understand the storyline. This was not an ADHD friendly event bahahahaah.
by jbecks on June 9, 2026 4:09 PM NST
Will that be final plot prizes for those who reached the end? Or is this really it?
by bhojanic1 on June 9, 2026 4:38 PM NST
@jbecks agreed re: tldr, and thank you for confirming Vocivus' HP wasn't down to zero!
by jax on June 9, 2026 4:44 PM NST
Wow, seeing the echo chamber of grievances makes me think -

1. It's sad that so many people have consciously or not been coerced into completing this plot. It's ultimately your own decision whether or not to participate in any grind - when you give up your agency, that's when you start to blame others for your suffering.

2. It's sad that neopets' survival (and any other online platform) hinges on clicks and engagement, which rely on gacha mechanics (inconsistent rewards), FOMO events (artificial scarcity), etc. These are psychological strategies to hijack our dopamine reward systems towards addiction, literally the same ones used by casinos.

I don't blame neopets for existing in an attention economy, as late capitalism cannabilizes itself. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

At the same time, I feel sad for those people who are deeply frustrated, embittered, or even betrayed by TNT because they lost their agency.

I sincerely hope you reflect on why you play, and who is at the drivers seat when the grind becomes unfun. Not just in neopets but in life.
by chairmanlmao on June 9, 2026 5:21 PM NST
Wait... what happened to something happening that we've been wanting for years? I'm lost. lol I assumed Faerieland was going back into the sky...
by dustin on June 9, 2026 5:35 PM NST
I'm glad the plot is over and color is back. The story, overall, is kinda cute. Love Iridesia discovering themself and most of the overall messaging, including Ozzy ultimately staying gray. Did not love Nyx insisting that she'd done wrong and needed to apologize about being sucked into a void for decades. I think I know what they were going for about things beyond your control causing you to act in ways that hurt others, but being sucked into a void is a bad analog and feels more akin to idk, getting t-boned at an intersection. You can be upset someone didn't make it to your graduation because someone crashed into them on the way, but they don't owe you an apology for an outside force they could not influence in any way acting upon them and while it might be easy to direct your upset towards them as a target ultimately you have to grow up and realize that it is not on them. Also hated Ozzy's "I wanted people to love me but I didn't love myself" line. Big ick. We gotta stop telling people that no one can love them until they love themselves; it is a huge, gross, damaging lie. The only requirement for being loved is to accept that people love you, which can be its own uphill battle, but loving yourself is not a base requirement and can in fact be worked on with the love and support of other people if you allow it.
Regardless, if the plot had been... idk 3-6 months long, I think it would've been fine, but it is so severely marred by the hiatuses and being dragged out that I'm just glad it is over.

I honestly liked the ending a lot, mostly because pretty much everything Ozzy said made me cry in a good way, haha

This was the first time I was around for a plot since I was wee tiny, and back then I really didn't understand what I was doing, so it was really nice to be able to actually participate for the first time!

by stormmonarch on June 9, 2026 6:41 PM NST
@0ms_morningstar0 Ozzy didn't say he "wanted people to love him but he didn't love himself". He says "I didn't know how to love myself. I needed other people to love me instead." meaning that he wasn't *trying* to love or find value in himself and was substituting looking for that validation exclusively from others. That's *also* a detrimental way of trying to approach mental health and having support, so I actually think it's a pretty well done and important message to convey. But in general I think we need to move away and grow as a society from claiming that offhanded things fictional characters say that we don't necessarily agree with are "extremely harmful" narratives. The world around us is what's going to convey bad messages to people. If something someone reads on a cartoon on a website about keeping fake pets is the "catalyst" for them developing a cognitive distortion about what it means to love themself, that person was going to make that conclusion one way or another because of outside stimulus. At the end of the day, web comics are not therapy and you shouldn't expect therapeutic practices from them.

I’m so, so happy to see that green smile again at the bank. <3

This plot motivated me to fight in the battledome for the first time in YEARS to get in hits on Vocivirus… Vovicus… you know, that guy - (0 wins! ) and I’m honestly surprised with myself passing plot 20k points… not underwhelmed, not overwhelmed. I think it’s one I won’t remember fondly due to the hiatus lulls more than anything, but I like that it’s been 20+ years and I still got to poke around at a new plot on Neopets dot com. That’s it’s own kind of great.

Also good for Ozzy feeling good as his colour is (UC grey yurbles are one of the best for the brush, let’s be honest), and I thought it was sweet Styx decided to match.
by katie2510 on June 9, 2026 7:37 PM NST
@chairmanlmao - I agree with a lot of your critiques of TNT's tactics, but I find the conclusions you draw about players utterly baffling and... I'll just leave it at that. It's possible to complete the plot despite hating the tactics employed, while still being a fully conscious and autonomous, healthy-minded human being.

@vivabug - I think there's value in holding content creators accountable for participating in messaging that reinforces misconceptions or harmful ideas. If the plot featured racist or sexist messaging I think you might be singing a different tune. Messaging does matter. Especially given the very real 'illusory truth effect' (look it up).

My one complaint about the plot... I wish Baelia hadn't changed and that Ozzy learning to love himself as he was applied to her as well. It makes me sad because she was my favorite as a kid, & she made me feel seen (Not to mention her new design is just kinda... well... not great)

Urgh their 9 Jun release notes has this:

"Be sure to keep an eye out after the plot officially ends next week for a few bonus updates as well as a dark secret still waiting to be uncovered...

What's Next:

TVW Chapter Replay Cookie"

Like... that would have been a GREAT time to release along with the stupid extended battlepass that newcomers couldn't utilize! If this awards reroactive points that's going to be extremely frustrating. I don't see the point of this cookie for things like revisiting the plot when the plot is right there already.

@january0 Agree fully with you. :/ one of the reasons I'm glad the plot is over if i'm being honest.
by crabbyb0tter on June 9, 2026 9:33 PM NST
@chairmanlmao I'm not saying you're wrong about TNT's tactics, but you then go on to blame neopians for being affected by tried-and-true addiction mechanics. Wouldn’t it be a *good thing* to call out those mechanics? Because TNT absolutely needs to stop using them. I think we’ve all shown that we’re willing to spend our time and money without it.

I also think you’re lumping a bunch of different reasons for complaining together. I’m mostly seeing complaints about the *story* and complaints about the lack of *accessibility/communication* now that we’re essentially done. Like, why would TNT yank the boss battle with no warning despite leaving every other battle open when he still had HP left? Why is one of the only two Queens in Neopia abdicating with next-to-no foreshadowing?

The notion that neopians are “giving up their agency” when they don’t like a story or official communication or game mechanics is like telling ASOIAF fans they’re giving up their agency because they’re annoyed that GRRM won’t publish the next book already, despite it having been in progress for 15+ years, and continually giving readers publication dates that he doesn’t meet. It’s also assuming that people are actually spending more time than they want on it, rather than lamenting that they wanted better and didn’t get it and therefore largely checked out. Or that they wanted a more satisfying story than they got, even if they read the whole thing (again, Game of Thrones fans didn't "give up their agency" just because the last season sucked). It's not unheard of to enjoy a thing and be disappointed when it doesn't live up to your expectations.

(I say this as a person who didn't mind most of the core plot mechanics in Acts 2 & 3 but found the story deeply unsatisfying. I still don't regret the time I spent on it all).

So the tease of Kass's Sword didn't develop into anything more, and the darkest faerie was mentioned but not relevant. I guess the void is just where villains go when they're not being used in a plot?
by bspiral on June 9, 2026 9:55 PM NST
I think the ending makes sense with the status quo of the rest of the comic, but as some said the pacing is noticeably quicker compared to the beginning, it feels different from a "regular" rushed ending issue, I can't really explain it.

I guess I'm not going to be able to get all the achievements, like I'd wanted, I just can't beat Drakara.
by mercy_graves on June 9, 2026 9:58 PM NST
Fyora could rule with a council formed to help advise or restrain her without her having to abdicate. Not that a big council actually did anything during the plot itself, so why she thinks that's the best way to do things is beyond me. That's a very weird thing to have happened.

And so, so many loose ends and unanswered questions that make half of the content feel pointless. Like, they were trying to hint at something that just never materialized. Such as, what's with that weird ancient Vandagyre stuff? Who is possessing Orion and why? Why have it guiding Nyx when it was already possessing Orion? Why was that guidance important enough to call attention to it with an entire choose-your-own-adventure style activity that tested how well you knew your musical scales? Are those musical cylinders going to be useful or meaningful in some way? Seriously, what's with the music theme that's not present anywhere else? Does the void have time warping abilities, since it time-skipped Nyx? Why does getting touched by the void corrupt things to get them speaking in tongues? Why tease about Kass if he wasn't ever going to be included?
by timbergray on June 9, 2026 11:14 PM NST
That was something I guess. They opened so many questions that went unanswered. Funny how they threw so much dialog and text at us at the beginning of act 4 then rushed right through it in the end to conclude things. Also I'm not even a Fyora fan but I kind of feel bad for her. Seems like she gets screwed in one form or other in every plot she's been involved in. Lol they couldn't even bother making her a new portrait for the chapter 18 page 8 transcript. I get she's supposed to be pretty powerful lore wise so gotta restrain her in some way but would have liked to see her get some proper action and shine a little before she hung up the cape... er crown.
by darkm329 on June 9, 2026 11:29 PM NST
@timbergray Yeah... the council thing didn't really make sense either especially with what happened. Unless she's trying to imply she regrets that she let her friendship get in the way of being tougher on her friend and she should have offed her friend when she had the chance kind of like Roku and Sozin from Avatar. Though I doubt TNT thought of it that way or wants to go in that direction.
by darkm329 on June 9, 2026 11:50 PM NST
Let's not forget that the plot ends next week. We are still getting one more epilogue bit, I am certain of it. That might tie up some loose ends at least.

As for Orion... I *think* the idea would have been to have him help out the gang of protagonists when they were stuck in the cave that lead to Altador, where we also were to learn more about Vocivus before the encounter (I completely missed that...) and how he eradicated an ancient Vandagyre civilisation.. or something. Orion's name appears in that last room, among the scholars that made it through the tunnel, so he has ties to the place already. Plus music was key there as well, not just in the text-based adventure with Nyx in the dark. I'm assuming that whoever is/was possessing Orion would have been that ghost Draik we see at the end of that Act (pretty sure it was a ghost Draik).

Buuut yeah. The Orion side-plot was important enough to ruin several events for in 2023/2024 (I really disliked how they felt the need to add story to the Advents Calendar and I just don't like Orion's design, but that's on me), but was then seemingly forgotten about or its relevance was skipped over. I don't recall there even being a wall of text being dedicated to this, and I sort-of-read all of them!
by apophis324 on June 10, 2026 12:08 AM NST
This was probably my favorite plot of all time. I do agree that it took a little too long to finish, but overall, I love the fact that they touched on mental health-related themes and how the plot teaches us some important lessons on self-acceptance, self-love, friendship, and how to see things from a different perspective.

I still have a few unanswered questions though, like: Is Drakara the one who cursed Vira to begin with? Does Ozzy being grey have something to do with him and Nyx losing their parents, or was he born grey? What exactly happened to their parents? What did Tavi do that made all her old friends leave?

I know these might all seem like trivial details, but I think answering these questions would add a little more depth to the characters and their backstories, therefore giving us more context on how they've been shaped by their past experiences. I also wonder if we'll see Vira again in any future plots. She actually came to genuinely care about Ozzy, but then she just kinda ran off and wasn't seen again except for her one appearance in Chapter 18 in which she sits and dolefully stares at Ozzy's grey painting of Faerieland. I almost feel bad for her honestly

@january0 Iridesia already loved themself as they were and acknowledged in the story that being grey was part of what made them who they are. People are allowed to and SHOULD grow and change after that kind of acknowledgment, too. Not everyone wants to stay "the same" as they were, some people want to experience major changes and growth. Between Iridesia and Ozzy, we got both ends of this spectrum. Also, Iridesia uses they/them and that means it applies backwards when you're referring to their past, even when you're using the name Baelia. Denying using Iridesia's new name and new pronouns just because you don't prefer it is not the way to handle the situation.
by vivabug on June 10, 2026 6:18 AM NST
The parentification drove me nuts the whole plot, honestly. As an oldest daughter I took it personally Ozzy was not her child! It was not her responsibility to give up her goals and hopes for a career for her younger brother. Where were their parents?
by musicallittle1 on June 10, 2026 6:27 AM NST
@neolodgeism Sure, I think it's important to hold people creators accountable when their messages actually lend to harmful ideas, too. We agree on that. I think it's equally important not to jump the gun and call everything harmful and toxic when it's not, as well. It harms that actual message one's *trying* to support when we're not purposeful about what we "condemn". It actually ties right back into your illusory truth effect, because if people repeatedly see innocuous content labeled as problematic, they'll believe that too. And then they'll parrot it, just like what's been happening with a lot of the rampant negativity I've seen on JN and the neoboards.
(seriously though, what is it with neopians and this "oh yeah, well google THIS phrase that I bet you somehow don't know even though *I* know it" attitude? lol)

The person I was responding to got the quote wrong and then took the incorrect idea of the quote with incorrect assumptions and context and said it "gross", which was ofc just an honest mistake. Part of my post was literally about not jumping to calling things harmful and then correcting the quote and context. It WASN'T racist or sexist, so yes you're right that I'd be singing a different tune in that scenario. But it wasn't that scenario, was it? THAT scenario and what actually happened are on completely different levels. So you're not really upset with what I said, you're just responding with what-aboutism. I understand people didn't like this plot, but because of that I also feel that some of you aren't looking at this realistically and are responding entirely with your emotions.

Ozzy's entire line there is about the importance of not relying on the validation of others as a substitute for learning to love and value yourself. That's not a dangerous message, that's one I wish a lot of people who struggle with mental health issues and look for support online WOULD listen to.
by vivabug on June 10, 2026 6:47 AM NST
@musicallittle1 Honestly this is the critique I can get in on. I loved Nyx anytime except when she felt guilt over Ozzy and felt responsibility for his feelings about things she couldn't help. It was too real and then didn't get addressed as an issue in the way I'd have liked to see.

The only thing I don't like about Iridesia's change is that they used to be functionally disabled, and I feel like the new powers kind of take away from that. The "reward" for accepting you're disabled is... becoming abled?? What? Like, I get the original story said that their powers would come back with a new name, but... I would have wished that to be more metaphorical ("power" as opposed to "feeling powerless"). You know, instead of having disability be a metaphor for mental health issues.
by mornaistare on June 10, 2026 8:33 AM NST
@mornaistare If you approach their story as being grey being a disability, then sure it's going to make you feel like they made a disabled person "abled", but I don't think that's how it's supposed to be received at all. I personally don't think we can call a grey faerie's affectation a one-to-one metaphor for being disabled at all, nor a one-to-one for depression. That's the problem when you start trying to apply real-world logic to purely fantastical ideas. Disability isn't a metaphor for mental health issues, mental health issues can be expressed in tandem with someone *having* a disability.
by vivabug on June 10, 2026 9:09 AM NST
Or well, not "accepting", they kind of said "you know what, I don't need your 'cure'... because I can cure myself!".
Plus, the answer they gave to the "needing to be useful" problem and "If I'm not useful I'm nothing" was just... becoming useful? The themes where kind of all over the place.
by mornaistare on June 10, 2026 9:13 AM NST
@vivabug How do you think it's supposed to be received? How did you receive it? Honest!
Here's how I see it: Iridesia used to have a lot of issues with themselves because they couldn't use magic, they didn't have a magic "ability", and because of this lack of ability (and their different appeareance) they felt like they were useless and couldn't "fit in" with the others.
So I think the "solution" involving them getting their powers back out of sheer willpower is not very great from any standpoint, because that kind of implies that at least part of the problem actually *was* not having a magic ability and being "useless"
My idea would have been to leave the powers like that and instead keep focusing on identity, self-love, and how your "value" doesn't depend on how "useful" you are
by mornaistare on June 10, 2026 9:41 AM NST
@apophis324 In Chapter 7, she just says she used to have some really close friends, but they all left "for one reason or another". She didn't specify exactly why they left, but it was after they left that Tavi went off on her own and got injured
by gamergirl33119 on June 10, 2026 11:19 AM NST
I think the problem with Iridesia is that their change didn't feel earned. This is supposed to be Baelia finding her true self. It's about identity, so there should have been more of an exploration of who she is leading up to the reveal of the new name. Maybe I've just forgotten some bits of foreshadowing because the plot ran so long, but I don't remember anything about their relationship to color or iridescence, and barely anything about them being the great artificer they keep saying they are during this final act. They repaired a key with their friends' help in the tunnel I guess? That doesn't feel significant enough to me though. Mostly it was friendship stuff which isn't reflected in their new design.

Their main character development pre-Iridesia (that I can remember) was that they felt useless without powers and their friends kept assuring Baelia that they were loved. That's a fine message, but doesn't really flesh out who Baelia/Iridesia really is as an individual or why they chose the form they did.

And then there's Fyora. Her abdicating felt weird to me too, I think because it wasn't impactful enough. She just... isn't queen anymore, and that's the end.

I think it would have landed better if she had chosen to remain grey as a penitence. Have her become the new Grey Faerie and commit to the whole rediscovering yourself aspect of the "Grey Ritual." She told Drakara that she felt more like herself as Queen, but maybe she realizes that doesn't feel right anymore and needs time to self-reflect. It would have been a more impactful gesture, would have played better with the themes of the overall story, and would have left the door open for future character development.

These missed opportunities for character development leave everything feeling really shallow to me.

@ mercy_graves and others - I know I keep preaching this, but it's because it worked so well for me despite my utter lack of interest in the Battledome: please, I hope you'll all train your pets. It's so worth it, because good plot prizes and achievements frequently rely on Battledome victories against tough opponents.

Having a well-trained Battledome pet also means it's quicker and easier to do daily battles, which award good prizes such as codestones and nerkmids. I paid for my Battledome training almost entirely by doing daily battles.

The prize store for this plot also has some of the top weapons in the game (Wand of the Dark Faerie which deals a lot of damage and does some healing, Thyoras Tear which is an excellent once-per-battle shield that blocks all damage, Thunder Sticks which is a once-per-battle guaranteed freeze against your opponent that also does damage, Grapes of Wrath which is a big damage dealer at a cheap price...), and Leaded Elemental Vial gives a once-per-battle full heal and recently became very affordable due to being a reward during the plot.

JN's training guide will help you get your pet trained for the least expense. Please consider it. Your future self will be thanking you (as I am thanking my previous self right now).

@vivabug - You were downplaying the potential negative impact of messages from stories like this. And I wasn't 'engaging in whataboutism' I was making a point that messages do matter - even in a web comic in a plot - by citing a couple of messages I suspected you would agree would be harmful. I wasn't disagreeing with what you said about Ozzy's story, I was disagreeing with the way you downplayed the potential for messaging in a platform like this to be genuinely harmful. I overall agree with what you said about Ozzy's story. It was a powerful positive message.

Also, having a well-trained Battledome pet gives you more bragging rights.
by skyheart15 on June 10, 2026 1:43 PM NST
Re: Iridesia - I think it's valid and understandable that it might ring a bit hollow or the message might feel offensive if you're reading it as a story that is centrally about disability. They could have done a better job with that aspect of the story to ensure it didn't come across that way.

It's a bit more palatable if read as a story about how failing to step into one's identity and fully live one's truth - whether that be gender identity, vocational identity or any other way we might know and express ourselves - leaves us as a pale shadow of who we might otherwise be. In that situation depression isn't necessarily the underlying cause of the issue, rather it's a result of suppressing one's needs, values, and other core qualities.

For Baelia/Iridesia, stepping into self-discovery and self-actualization enabled them to embrace the talents and abilities they were afraid to fully embrace. Their talents were taken from them when their wings were taken, and their ability to overcome that was a story of transformational healing.

Many who've struggled with these kinds of issues, especially trauma and perfectionism, will be able to identify with how transformative healing and personal growth can be.

And actually, trauma or perfectionism/fear of failure are a great potential interpretation of this story. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" can be very real for some people. Healing can be very real for some people. Not all barriers are insurmountable, and we shouldn't be afraid of highlighting a story of triumph just because some things can't be overcome.

If read as a story about gender identity, it also fits. Look at the before and after pictures of people who've transitioned, and what's often more remarkable than the change in gender presentation is the massive transformation in demeanour of the person. People frequently are much more vibrant, happy and confident post-transition (although not everyone will want/need/be able to transition).

Just my thou

Totally agree! Can have a Faerie Council to help lead without demoting one of the most important, central characters of Neopia. Heck, they don't mind selling merch based on the Faerie Queen. They keep pushing more Royal stuff (mystery capsules 'n crap) while dethroning the very Faerie Queen who is central to so much of Neopian history. Just as a wee indicator of how central she is to Neopian culture and history, look at how many Fyora items are in the jellyneo database!

It really bothers me that now one of only two Queens in all of Neopia and the ONLY one ruling in her own right, abdicated while a host of Kings still rule despite some of their own questionable past behaviors. And all the Princesses only draw agency from being the daughter and heir of a given King.

King Coltzan
King Hagan
King Kelpbeard
King Roo
King Skarl
King Jazan & Queen Nabile (only other ruling queen)
Princess Amira - rules the 'kingdom' of Sakhmet
Princess Fernypoo
Princess Lunara
Princess Sankara
Princess Vyssa

Something I noticed in this last part is the plot got a lot better to me once they introduced the Short Stories and allowed more space for more to happen/be explained in a shorter real-world length of time, and without the obligation to spend even more time being drawn by the artist, instead of making parts that really should have only lasted a few pages (like the whole ruins section) feel way too drawn out because they *had* to draw it out and couldn't just sum it up in a few paragraphs. I think if they didn't introduce those the plot would've ended up either feeling even more like a slog, or with an even more rushed and underwhelming, or even confusing, ending. Either that or we would still be here wondering when the whole ordeal would wrap up.

Overall I did enjoy the plot despite the bumps along the way, and tbh I'm kinda gonna miss having something to do besides the usual
by alphashadow on June 11, 2026 8:40 AM NST
@Kirin: I'm fairly certain 'princess' Amira has gone by the title of 'queen' Amira a couple of times. That's modern TNT lore though.

by apophis324 on June 12, 2026 11:04 AM NST
@apophis324: Yes, TNT does seem to have trouble agreeing on whether Amira is a princess or a queen. If you look up "amira" the jellyneo database, you get about half Princess and half Queen stuff. lol Historically in Neopia she was a princess first, then became ruler, so I think Queen is much more appropriate now since she actually DOES rule Sakhmet.

But that kind of confusion will even more so with "Formerly Known as Queen" Fyora. There are so many items of the Faerie Queen in Neopia PLUS how much they've used the Faerie Queen image to sell real life merch.

Ah well, might be something more coming in the rumored epilogue.

The whole Fyora abdicating-thing is giving me serious My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic flashbacks.

And that ain't a good thing.

For those wondering what they will call Queen Fyora now that she's no longer queen, likely still Queen Fyora. There has been a few Kings, Emperors, & Queens who have either abdicated or lost their reign (like a Queen whose husband died and rule went to the next male heir) but kept their royal title as an honorary one. Here's an article about it:

https://europeanroyalhistory.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/abdication-what-to-call-a-former-monarch-part-v/

Now some do choose to downgrade their title to a lesser one, but I'm going to guess Fyora is going to keep her honorary royal title as "Queen" because:

* (1) Lorewise it's what she's been known as for so long and many beings see her as such (like she's still the most naturally powerful being in all of Neopia. Iridesia just so happened to have the power which counteracts Drakara-Jennumara, but otherwise I'd put her power level to the likes of Jhudora, Illusen, Mira, & Aethia (though Aethia may have less raw magical power to instead opt in enhanced martial skill).
* (2) Metawise its convenient for merch, both future and existing.

Though Fyora put Iridesia and Luxinia in charge of forming the new council, even if it's not an immediate addition I have to think Fyora would have a position on it. Like this abdication thing kind of feels like a knee-jerk reaction, the whole situation with Drakara just bringing back all the bad memories (including choices she has made as ruler she might be looking back as being wrong ones). Forming the council is a wise decision, but wanting to runaway from duty isn't. ATM Fyora just needs some time to get through her thoughts & feelings, also maybe talk with a therapist (actually maybe quite a few of the characters in this plot need to talk with one:..).
