Winter Starlight Celebration Updates: New Snowager & Taelia Prizes, Advent Calendar Auto-Gifters, and Stocking Stufftacular

A new blog about the Winter Starlight Celebration has been posted on the Neopets portal. The official Release Notes page has also been updated with a handful of changes around the site. We've got a quick summary for you!

We believe these to be the updates that TNT warned about waiting to do dailies for. So, feel empowered to go do your dailies now!

New Snowager Prizes
The Snowager is once again permanently sleeping during the Winter Starlight Celebration, which lasts through January 3. During this time, you are able to claim a guaranteed prize from him once per day, at any time of the day.

However, he's had some additions to his exclusive prizes!

Premium players will also receive two separate prizes on their daily visit during the Winter Starlight Celebration. The Release Notes also claim that the "exclusive" and "super exclusive" prizes have boosted odds during the Winter Starlight Celebration.

UPDATE: We've also seen evidence that the rarity ranges for the rarity-based item outcomes have risen!

UPDATE, December 2nd: A new NC item that gives an extra prize when visiting the Snowager is also now released. You can find out more in a new section of our guide.

New Taelia's Quest Prizes
The prizes for Taelia's Quest have been updated. Specifically, she is now giving out different snowballs! These have replaced her original set of possible snowball prizes.

There are four new snowballs (above) plus four existing snowballs

The Release Notes also claim that the chance of getting an Ice Cream Machine Coupon is boosted during the Winter Starlight Celebration.

UPDATE: Some new exclusive item prizes are also starting to appear! These prizes are typically quite rare. (One JN staffer has completed over 3,700 Taelia quests, and received one of her exclusive non-Coupon items just 5 times!) Unless TNT has changed the odds on these, they may trickle into Neopia rather slowly:

Additionally, her non-exclusive item rewards have seemingly had their rarity range extended up to r95. Previously, they capped at r90.

There seem to be no changes to her requested items or Neopoint reward ~~or non-exclusive item rewards~~.

Advent Calendar Auto-Gifter

The Snowager avatar has historically not been available during Winter Starlight because Snowager will never blast you. according to the FAQ this item may allow you still get the avatar anyways. we'll find out tomorrow *shrug*

@nathasja there's several seemingly new Taelia items that can be found from doing "Containing" searches on the Shop Wiz, but we have yet to see any actually appear on site. we'll add them if they do. it's possible TNT has not (yet?) added them as prizes.

Alright, so if I'm following correctly... We've gotten a ghost Varwolf with pixellated/crunchy lineart, an icicle P3 with a redundant "petpetpet" in the name (Twig and Pebble exist, TNT!), an item spelled "Zommut" when it should be "Zomutt", and a Varwolf transmog potion with a redundant "Mutant" in it. Anything else?

An auto-gifter kinda defeats the fun of going to the advent calendar though??? and also oh joy, MORE monetization. Don't they make enough on the stocking stufftacular? Especially with how lackluster the AC has been the last few years. I mean, it's day 1 and it's a very simple phone background....

Okay, about the NC stuff anyway. I do have words about Taelia quests - I think this is a blunder by TNT, because it basically means that premium players have to wait twice as long to get a new quest if they don't want to buy the overpriced items she asks for. That feels like a penalty, not a perk.

I'm not that pressed about the AC autogifter because... well, I'm sure enough people have outright said "I would pay to make it so I don't accidentally miss a day" in so many words that it makes enough sense, especially with the 'didn't miss a day' bonuses.

Like, if people are going to automate it anyway via botting, and other people are proving by engaging with the cash resellers that they will pay money for it, why not pay Neopets instead.

Oooh, I see I see. So the Seasonal Attack Pea is not a prize that Reina can give this year, huh? That makes perfect sense. I mean, I never got one in the previous years that it was available, so no loss there... But since their snazzy new NC Mall item that collects your Advent Calendar prizes for you does NOT collect Reina's reward, it would defeat the purpose of its existence if people still made their way to the Calendar every day, in hopes of getting such a rare and powerful reward! What a smart marketing strategy~!

Yeah, because back in the pre-premium days, every single day of the Advent Calendar prizes were top-notch winners that were always super useful and valuable. This, truly, is a sign of the decay of the AC.

Come on.

Also, heaven forbid someone be unable to log onto Neopets to check the advent calendar every day during a time when a lot of people are celebrating major holidays that may take precedence. I know I've forgotten days in years past plenty of times just because I spaced it out or was particularly busy that day. It's fine.

We'll have to see if the snowager charm actually meaningfully impacts peoples' ability to get the avatar, but the base odds are still the same, so rolling the dice twice (and I do mean "twice", the FAQ seemed to imply that it's a single-use item) isn't really that much of a difference from rolling it once.

@oceanhazel: The FAQ mentions that the charmer changes the avatar odd in December to be the same as other months. For example, if the odd is 0.1% in other months and 0% in December, the charmer changes the odd in December to 0.1%.

Okay I checked the past few years guides and it seems you unlock two site themes if you claim every days prizes. Thankfully I already have them.

From the wording in the guides it sounds like the auto-claimer will allow folks to claim these rewards if they don't already have them since it says "You also received the X site theme if you collected your Advent prizes for all 31 days in December:" So it involves collecting all the prizes and not necessarily visiting every day like some other events like Faerie Festival.

I hate the "miss a day, miss a prize" system in Neopets but heck if I'm gonna pay to get around it.

As an Autistic+ADHD combo neopian in my 30's, taking care of a family, a house and pets, while working 2 full time jobs.... I will swim against the haters tide and friggin' celebrate the AC autogifter.

It is so frustrating to be taking care of such a huge workload of real life, all this adulting stuff, working so, SO hard to REMEMBER to not miss a single one AC day (and often missing like only 1 or 3 days only and not being able to get the prizes because of that one ONLY SINGLE DAMN DAY I missed it).....

Thank you. Seriously.

I disagree with the auto gifter and I tend to miss a lot of days because my kids and being on the opposite side of the world. It doesn't sit right with me. Paying for something that should be a given. TNT shouldn't expect a majority of its player base to be on every since day to collect all rewards. It is OK to miss a day or two. Life happens.

OK I take everything I said earlier back. This year's advent SUCKS so far. What the heck? The only animation/art we have had so far was taken from the snowbunny trinket. The NP wrapping paper BG today was embarrassingly bad. Shocked at just how bad it has been.
