Neopets: The Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity Review

The second official Neopets graphic novel, Neopets: The Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity was released on November 4! Jellyneo staff have now had the chance to read the novel, and we're excited to share our review! Check it out for our takes on the novel's art, plot, and role in Neopian lore:

The graphic novel is available nearly anywhere books are sold. As we've previously shared, it contains a universal item code redeemable by all players (no purchase required!) at Grundo Warehouse:

GRUNDOBOOK

This code awards the following toy:

Just adding my two cents: "The graphic novel is available nearly anywhere books are sold." This is a very vague statement. I live in a country with a very strong fanbase and yet we still struggle to get the printed books. Not everyone lives in the USA/Canada and has the privilege of having access to Neopets books "nearly anywhere books are sold".

I think the TDMBGPOP

I think the TDMBGPOP has more grace being of unknown nature. The premise seemed exciting but I prefer a more 2000s Neopedia type of story.

(sorry for double posting)

Thanks for the review. This sounds like a huge miss for me, but since Christmas is coming maybe it will end up in my hands anyway, as the people around me know I'm into Neopets.

The inclusivity handwaving is frustrating. If they aren't going to meaningfully handle these themes, they should avoid them entirely. Half-hearted, tacked-on references only add to the stigma against queer and disabled people, as they reinforce the perception that we're shoe-horning things into culture that don't belong.

Side note: If Stitches is non-binary you might want to ensure your review refers to them as such. The character is he/him'd throughout the review.

@neolodgeism you'll have to help me out...where? are you possibly mixing up Stiches with TDMBGPOP?

Agreed entirely with the review. I got it via Hoopla as soon as it released, and while it had some cute moments, the weird disregard for Neopian history, the dialogue that was clearly just copy-pasted from the site descriptions, and the fact that yet again they had a nameless Dark Faerie inciting the main conflict of the story made me glad I didn't pay for it.

Thank you for the Spoiler-Free reviews, Herdy, Steph and Ummy!

I especially liked your comparing the story to "A piece of candy."
It's the best way to explain why it's not necessarily a mind-blowing tale, but still a lovely story to appreciate nonetheless!

I'm very likely to get this book, as I have the Omelette Faerie book as well.

It's unfortunate this book isn't as good as Omelette Faerie was. I'll still pick it up to read for myself, but I do agree with this review in the fact that I wish these stories stayed closer to actual lore as well as put more...what's the word ugh. Effort, into the inclusivity.

Seeing mention that literal site UI shows up in a panel is....definitely not reassuring either.

Also the way Fyora and other faeries have been portrayed so far, definitely not a fan.

Maybe Xandra was right after all... /hj

So sorry, Kenny, you're right, I must have mixed them up. They were both discussed in that one section. I must have lost track of which one was being referred to.

Considering the books are the only bit of merch easily available in the UK, I was annoyed that they don't have unique codes on them. Thanks for the review - I won't bother buying this book after being disappointed by the first one.
