Costume Contest: Voting Now Open!

Our Costume Contest is now open for voting!

Just like last year, round one is a rating round. You have the opportunity to rate all entries with a "Yay" (aka a thumbs up if you like it) or a "Nay" (aka a thumbs down if you don't like it). The 75 pets with the highest cumulative ratings will move on to the next round, where normal voting resumes.

Also, if you rate all 495 entries this year, you'll get an extra bonus vote to use in round three!

NEW THIS YEAR: Our staffers wanted to get in on the fun this year as well, and we now have a separate Staff Category open for voting through the end of Round 3! Vote for your favourite costume by one of our staffers, and as a bonus you'll receive a bonus vote in Round 3!

And as a quick warning as in year's past, please only use one jnAccount to vote. Each year we usually have to disqualify a handful of people that made the contest unfair by voting on several accounts.

I accidentally included an extra NC item I didn't know I was wearing (music?? does that even still work on the site anymore???) and didn't find out my submission got rejected until it was too late

tbh I don't even know how many of my items were NC because i got most of them from the cheapo pool that gets donated to the money tree

I really intended to follow the rules because I totally agree with them and I think too many of the submissions this year are Literally Just The Full Body NC Costume Item but I have no idea how I was supposed to see that my submission was rejected, you don't get a notification for it so I didn't notice I needed to correct it

I don't get like 80% of these random fandom costumes. I'm sure they're great if you get it, but if I don't know it, I can't vote yay, sorry. :/

That was a lot of entries! I accidentally got a couple of votes wrong from what I had intended, but I guess that's inevitable when you're voting on that many costumes.

There are some creative ones this year.

I agree @redgeisha, I don't get most of the fandom costumes. I sincerely wish everyone good luck, and I'm sure that those ones will get lots of votes so they don't need mine, but I find most of them too obscure and I have no idea what they are.

However, if I don't understand it but it still looks really cool, I don't have any problem voting for it.

Thanks JN for making Halloween exciting every year! I always enjoy seeing all the costumes and voting on them and seeing which ones are the most popular.

Finally! It's finished! Xo I can't remember if there were more or less entries this year.

I will say there were looooooads of K-Pop-related entries this time. While most of them were really cool, I was getting serious K-Pop fatigue by like, the 7th one. Lots of Jhudora entries this year, too. (And by a lot, I mean like, five, but still! I didn't expect to see so many.)

I had to search up a lot of names this year, too. I don't have/watch Netflix or any streaming service, or Tiktok, or anything like that, except Youtube, but even then, I don't really watch the trending vids, or whatever. So, I had to look up a lot of names to give those entries a fair shot. I still don't quite understand some of them, but I can see the resemblance, so that's good enough for me!

Now, there were a lot of creative entries, as anticipated. I won't say which ones those are yet (I don't want to influence votes), but I'll be keeping a close eye on them and hope they make it to the next rounds.

I made the decision before voting to stay on the theme of 'All Hallows Eve' n the creative customization of the pets.

Had to come back several times between chores and meetings, but I've voted for all of them

Quite a few very creative costumes, I especially like the ones that make me chuckle for some reason.

There were many many many entries where I didn't recognise the character, but if the overall look was good all the same I voted yay. A few I looked up to see if they were close to the original. Soo many choices that I only voted yay on the ones I really liked. And a few where I couldn't really explain it but deserved a yay all the same

Can I just say I hate when the title is a quote instead of the name of the character? Not everyone can catch these references... At least let me know who I should google.

Made it through all of them! Personally, I really appreciate when the costume isn't just items of the same set made to be used together, but rather a combination of different items put together in a creative way- and there were plenty of creative entries this time around. Good luck everyone!

I always google the characters I don't recognize so I can judge based on accuracy to the character and not my interests :3

I usually google all the ones I don't know (and there are many), but I'm going through some serious health stuff this year and it was too exhausting to do that. I just picked what I liked and will google the next round when it won't be so daunting.

I used a lot more yeas than nays this year, but most I didn't have a clue as to who they were supposed to be, but if they looked ok I went with a yea.

I just noticed the STAFF competition today. I think it should have been mentioned. At first I thought it was just a button for staff to vote on things. *facepalm*

Got through them all, but again... You need to clarify the rules on clothing. For example - the abandoned all - exactly what piece of clothing is worn by this submission? And there are several others that aren't wearing a single piece of clothing, unless you now count a "skin" or full body NC look as a clothing item... In that case, I'm sure many of us might have chosen a different costume for our pet. When you say each entry MUST wear 1 clothing item, we're thinking shorts, shirts, dresses, belts, hats etc. If you are now considering "skins" or tokens to be considered as clothing items them please make that clear in the rules. Several entries are actually NC huge petpets & the users actual pet is invisible... is that a clothing item??? Please clarify.......

I only started voting on the custom contest last year after I started paying more attention to the news here, but I am glad I got to participate this year! There's some really funny or inventive entries, and I think I voted yay on all the K-Pop Demon Hunters ones haha

I do agree that skins / full body suits are not as interesting, sure, they are very beautiful (and that will probably get them a lot of votes!), but it often feels like there's not that much thought behind the entry when it's just a skin.
