Altador Cup: The Grey Year Begins

This year's scaled-down version of the Altador Cup has begun over at the Colosseum.

In addition to some story text, the only activity is to claim your "Grey Year Souvenirs" from the yellow box towards the bottom of the page.

Each day from today through June 21, an item prize will be made available to all players, and Premium players are eligible for an additional bonus item prize. Today's regular prize is The Grey Year Brochure, a brand new book item; the Premium prize is Desk Yooyuball, a re-released toy from the 2019 AC Staff Tournament prize shop. Additionally, a brand new "Dizzy Yooyu" avatar is awarded for claiming your prizes.

Unlike similar events of the past, you do not need to check in every single day; in fact, according to the official FAQ, all regular item prizes will be available until next year's Altador Cup and all Premium item prizes will be available until the end of June. However, the FAQ also says there will be a trophy awarded only to those who claim all prizes before the end of June.

Finally, the Neocash portion of the event, Altador from the Clouds, has also begun today and will be available through June 30th.

lol everything is turning into a Premium cash cow. But as someone who personally dislikes the Altador Cup (just because I'm not into games, but I think it's a great annual tradition overall), I'm glad that I don't have to pound through Slushie Slinger to hit Level 1 this year

I"m glad the premium prize is a rerelease, even if it's not fancy. (maybe future prizes will be nicer?) I'm tired of them releasing new album items and premium-only.

I still think they need to reassess what 'scaled back' means, this is 'cancelled and replaced with a daily'. Scaled back would have been, like, 5 games to rank up instead of 10 (or whatever it was). I'm not complaining about not playing though, ever since losing flash the games have been harder to play lol.

Kinda damned if they do and damned if they don't for the Premium prizes, aren't they? They release cheap junk, and the Premium users aren't happy. They release something cool, and the non-Premium users aren't happy.

Anyone else notice that the Altador from the Clouds tickets cost more for 14 days (1500 NC) than buying 2 x 7 days (700 NC x 2 = 1400 NC) Wonder if there is going to be a special benefit hidden away for folks buying the 14 day tickets?

I didn't even realize today's Premium prize wasn't a new item.
Would've made more sense if it was something that was much more inflated before; collectors would've probably been very happy to see it deflate in that case. But hey, it's on-theme and not every Premium prize has to be insane. Aaaand if all Premium prizes are going to be rereleases of old AC prizes, there's still hope for some retired overpriced stamps!

Unpopular opinion: I don't like trophies where you just show up on the set day, click, and win. Like a button or badge makes sense but a whole trophy for no actual effort? *eyeroll* having the avatar even as a prize at the end instead would have been enticing

I agree that a trophy for this feels weird. We don't get a trophy for Negg Fest, Neopies, or Advent Calendar.

If their programmers weren't strapped to fixing the site, I wish we could have gotten clone games like Kass Basher with Vira puppet, Turmac Roll as Juni, and Ice Cream Machine against Grey Painter, etc. and it built points towards a small prize shop and lookup medal for a "Grey year Cup".

I didn't complain about the event itself. I complained that you have to do bare minimum for a trophy. Trophies should mean something. It's basically a participation prize

It’s so weird not having the Altador Cup this year! It’s been a summer tradition since I was a kid. I kinda wish we could at least join a team, just for fun. But, honestly, with all the broken games, cheating, and drama the last few years, it’s probably for the best that they cancelled it.

Also, why am I not surprised that they still have a NC event even without the real event happening? Sigh

I'm not a premium member, and I can see why it's unfortunate for people who are premium subscribers that they're getting a recycled prize. But that recycled prize had gone up in price a LOT before yesterday, so they are getting a "premium" reward. Just one that immediately lost its value with the influx of newly obtainable toy sets

I'm all for Premium members getting new stuff, actually new stuff. I just hope they don't give them another new stamp/coin/business card/collectible card. I don't want to need Premium for just one day

Ummm I missed the announcement for the 3rd, so went to claim yesterdays prize today. I can claim it multiple times as no pop up comes but the item appears in my inventory. What are the rules about stuff like this? If I stock up is that bad?

@sistersparrow: It's usually not a good idea to grab multiple of the same item due to some glitch or whatever. But it's nice that you can still get old prizes a day later, so that works at least

It appears the tables have been turned and it's the Premium members that walk away with a new reward now, while the non-paid players received an old item. I hope this doesn't mean the first day was a mistake and the prizes had been swapped? For 13 days of old prizes, while Premium walks away with new goodies.. can make a person a little jealous. We'll see

People who enjoy this unironically probably "liked" live action Lilo and Stitch. It's okay to complain a little bit, but do so on the neoforums. TNT needs to know the community is upset or else they will think this was a "success" and do it again next year.

I'm lukewarm to this event so far. The stories are.. okay... but without visual accompaniment it's difficult for me to picture who is talking to whom. As if I've memorised all characters! (And no, looking them up in the Book of Ages is too much effort for this event > w<

I just hope they won't pile a ton of dung on team Maraqua again, as they're keen to do in some of the previous years...

this is an AMAZING idea, I really hope they make something that's a lot more fun (for me at least) to play, but Yooyu Ball ABSOLUTELY needs to be modernized and remade to current gaming standards, we can't get rid of it but it definitely needs a rehaul for modern game design

Speak for yourself. There's a huge number of players who hate the Altador Cup (as in, I personally don't even want to try and load the site while it's going on, it's so bugged with lag and server errors), and even people who do like it know it's in desperate need of an overhaul.

@rowanstarchild you have to go to the main page and not the page linked here. Once you do, you will see an inconspicuous row of team symbols. Most of those team symbols are greyed out. Click the first symbol on the left, and that will allow you to redeem your prize.

If it works for you like it did for me and @sistersparrow, it doesn't tell you you claimed your prize and the button to claim the prize remains yellow instead of greying out. Check your Inventory, you might have it. Given how quirky Neopets is, I know I for one presumed this was just one more glitch. For us, it was an honest mistake, and I hope TNT treats us leniently for this oopsie.

Am I the only one that’s looking at the prices for the Altador from the Clouds items? It’s 150nc for 1, 700nc for 7 and 1,500 for 14 items..? Wouldn’t it be cheaper if you bought the 700nc thing twice? Since it doesn’t seem there’s an extra for doing the more expensive pack.

Kind of want to buy, but also skeptical about it..
