Watch Ads to Earn Neopoints

A new feature has rolled out on the Neopets.com home page this morning, reminiscent of some of the earlier days of Neopets: the ability to earn Neopoints by watching an ad!

Upon first visiting today, you may be greeted with a pop-up announcing the change.

Afterward, you can find a button to trigger the ad in the upper left corner, next to the bookmark icons.

This should display an embedded ad on the page. The functionality currently seems to be a bit finnicky. Not all players are having success with launching an ad, and it's not clear what the issue(s) may be; you might have success trying with a different browser or device.

After watching the ad for a sufficient amount of time, you will be provided with a reward. (Let us know what you get in the comments!)

If you attempt to launch the ad with an adblocker enabled, you will not be able to participate.

The activity appears to be available once daily, and seems to only be presented to non-Premium accounts.

I just encountered the little icon when I went to feed my pets. I was like hWAT? I was so bewildered and slightly amused that I turned off my adblocker and watched the ad, which loaded! And it even awarded me 1000 NP successfully. Then I came here to check if it's been on the news yet, and apparently it's extremely recent, lol!

I wonder if Premium accounts just get the 5k daily without watching the ads?

I don't mind this feature. It's not forcing you to watch ads, but you can watch it, if you want, for NP.

5,000 NP when I can just...do one singular daily and get more with less effort and not being made to watch an ad? maybe this IS a way to get us to use the daily quests because I can easily earn five times that without any ads taking up my phones entire screen, it's way too low a payout imo.

I’d recommend using caution when viewing ads on the website. The few times I forgot to activate my ad blocker for Neopets, the antivirus software I use instantly blocked all the ads on page for either malware advertising or other things. While there is a chance they’ve added more security with this update to prevent those problems, it doesn’t hurt to be careful just in case.

From reading on other sites, it appears some people are getting rather NSFW ads. This is in addition to the fact that their malware/security programs are activating in response to turning off adblocking on Neopets, implying there's something shady about the ads.

Definitely do not do this. This feels... really slimey, I gotta say.

i think if they make it work well (not like the ads to spin the wheels a second time which don't work most of times so I gave up trying), it's a good idea. The NP is nothing to me either, but it it helps the site and it costs me nothing, I'll do it. I did it on my phone. Disabling the ad blocker for a moment is easy (don't forget to refresh). The ad lasted 5 seconds at most and I got 2000 NP.

I wonder what woudl be the case with side accounts. I mean usually, we can't do nothing that woudl give you NP on sides. But in this case it would benefit them to allow it... It would be useful to help easily keep some NP there for transfers.

@khaytra I know Dom won everyone over in the last year, but I remember when he initially bought Neopets to use it an NFT nostalgia farm. Thankfully, the backlash was swift, just as NFTs quickly died out everywhere anyhow. I mean, I'm grateful that Dom didn't just cut his losses and strip the site for parts, but I also don't really trust him still, nor will I ever fully trust him.

While we're on the topic of neo ads, if you're on mobile and having trouble getting the wheel ads to work, try switching the site to desktop view. I know people's phones are different and this still probably won't work for everyone, but it always makes the ads work for me and it might work for someone else.

I'm Premium, so I was less bothered by the premise when I didn't see where it was, but if it's in the bookmark corner I hope they give players the option to remove it. It's one thing to make it available (like various old sponsored features), and another thing to make it follow you around the site.

I know I posted earlier but I just went to grab my dailies and over half my screen was covered by an unclosable tiktok ad on nealry every page, if they actually want me to even think about doing this then they need to trash at least half the ads on the site first at bare minimum

I don't know whether to call it audacious or hilariously out of touch to ask people to turn off their adblock to watch an ad on that laggy malware-ridden website for *MAYBE* 5000np, possibly even less.

Way back in the day that might have been tempting to child me, but with the current economy that's nothing, I'd happily spend 5k np daily just to make them stop prompting me to turn off my adblock and watch ads for things.

I had enough of that with the wheel of celebration, what a mess. They're massively putting the cart before the horse here, they'd have to make me feel like their website was
A. safe and
B. functional
without adblock before I was ever tempted again by any of these "watch an ad to get x reward" things they've been introducing. The problem isn't that I was looking for a direct np payout rather than a wheel spin, the problem is it's just not worth it with the current state of the site, even if the amount they were offering wasn't a laughable pittance.

it's not an outlandish idea, and i'd love to turn my adblocker off for neo but between the pop-up ads and the rare times i'll just randomly be re-directed offsite out of nowhere from some ad -- i'd rather not... not for a measly 5k.

maybe if the daily ads were like the daily quests -- or trudy -- where the np amount build up until you hit 100k. then i'd do it. make it like trudy tnt, lol.

Well, that's unfortunate. As a non premium user, I recently started using an adblocker because the sheer amount of ads I was getting on Neopets made the site unplayable on my pc, and made Firefox very slow.So, nah, I'm good.

Premium user so i dont see it but its showing up on alt accounts, which we all know i cant cash in anyway XD

Honestly, for users using Neopass to login, as its gaining neopoints, couldnt they turn it off... oh right, too hard to code that in... we'll just leave the carrots dangling there teasing players instead.

Today, suddenly I'm getting ads on my side accounts. It used to be that Adblock Plus took care of this. I even went so far as to pay for a month of Adblock Premium hoping this would get rid of them, but the ads are still there. Has neopets finally become a complete cash grab? ugh! Any suggestions for getting rid of these ads? another adblocking program/extension? Yelling at my computer screen has not helped!

OK, so I didn't grow up with computers (my age, not restrictive parents). I figured out how to block the element on Adblock. I had just become complacent cuz before today I didn't need to do anything to have ads blocked on my non-Premium accounts.
