It's been an eventful April Fools Day!

A plushie and avatar are available on Neopets.com; check out our other news post for all the details on how to claim them. Some past April Fools prizes were only available day-of, so don't dilly-dally and make it over before midnight NST!



An Invisible Meerca is now available!

At the time of writing, the colour does not appear to be activated yet, as it is not yet appearing at the Rainbow Pool. If you plan on creating an Invisible Meerca after it is, check out our Modeling page, as we'll need your help!


Two other wearable items have also debuted: some sunglasses at Uni's Clothing Shop and a foreground at Ugga Shinies.











Finally, there's a special announcement for an upcoming "Handmade Item Day" in the Art Gallery. What makes it special? Apparently, this round will award the effectively-retired "Random Contest Winner" avatar!


Submissions for this contest are due "by April 8th (4/8)" according to the New Features. (And to be clear—this is a real announcement, not an April Fools joke!)

What exactly a "handmade item" means? Does traditional drawing counts? Or it should be something like a doll, crochet, sculpture? Perhaps a drawing would only counts if it's on a canvas, like a painting?

i am going to guess hand-made means a type of craft, and not a traditional drawing/painting... otherwise wouldn't digital art also count as "hand-made"?

it could use some further clarifying though...

...nevermind my hand-made comment. i was taking it literally as in "you still make it with your hands so technically it's 'hand-made'" but then 3d printing would also count as hand-made in that sense and i don't think that's right, lol. idk i'm confusing myself. disregard my comments. lol

Also the word random. Does it mean you can make anything. Even if it’s not related to neopia?
Can I make a birdhouse or something?
I am so confused to. Like I can’t draw so many now I can enter. But I need to know what to do hahaha. What the rules are.

I'd love to participate in this Art Contest, but I've never done so on account of being "artistically impaired", so to speak. As in... my hands can't make what my brain thinks of.
A chance of getting the Totally Random avatar is neat though. If only we had more rules to follow! As @inkpot stated, I don't think 3D printing is allowed. Such a thing was asked in the editorial once, I believe. But what if you were to assemble a thing made from 3D printed parts? Say you build a Neopian wearable crown out of parts you got from the 3D printer... Not that I have access to a 3D printer, nor the know-how to operate one, but I feel like that should be fine.

The random contest avatar being re-released is so exciting!!
I already have it but I'm so happy to see them bringing it back this way!

I've seen people suggest a "retired avatar capsule" or wheel, and I've always hated that idea. They should be earned (except for the ones that were random to begin with) and this is a great way to do it! ♥

Excited for those who need the RC avatar! I don't have a lot of experience with the Art Gallery myself, but I'm pretty sure the random theme still has to be Neopets-related - but it's not restricted to a theme like pet days.

The official AG schedule board would be a good place to ask questions. TNT already clarified the handmade theme is not meant for 2D art.

NOT HAPPY... Ever since April Fools day when JN made everything go in DARK MODE I can't get my Dailies page to go back to LIGHT. And I already read that if your device is in dark mode, so will your JN pages be. THAT'S CRAP!!! because I use Opera Browser and I've always had it in dark mode, and I never had JN in dark mode. But now that seems to be the way is and that's garbage. So I can't have my Opera in Dark Mode, like I want it to be, if I want my Dailies etc. in Light mode. Thanks a lot JN.

I totally agree with you kemerlei DARK MODE does not look good on all sites, and we should have the choice to be able to turn it off and on and still have our browser setting the way we want it to be.

@kemerlei @aisies: That option to pick between light and dark mode (even if your browser is telling us you want dark or light mode) is being worked on! You'll be able to select your preference alongside the theme once we get the coding work for that done.
