i like these battledome challengers as a premium perk. premium seems very Hardcore Neopets Player 2 me

I would purchase premium solely to fight Kaia. Sorry, but she's one of the worst written characters in game.

The checkmark looks like those from the QL, so that could be interesting. I wonder how that would work. If it just automatically means Premium users cannot mess up their streak or if there's more to it.
Don't care too much about the opponents unless one of them gives uit a genuinely awesome prize.

More BD opponents might be nice. Things have stagnated. Also if they give out more than 750 points per win but can be defeated without having a BD pet with 30,000 HP *and* don't keep breaking like DFM Pteri, that would also be nice.

TNT (1): How do we share upcoming perks to our players? Should we send an email to our paying users of the upcoming perks, or post on the site?

Seriously. Maybe, instead of all these premium perks that have no actual monetary value to players, they should just lower the cost of premium. 70 bucks US per year is a lot for a static 'game' site.

...how exactly is "streak save" being taken to mean a reroll feature? If you use apps like Snapchat or Duolingo you know exactly what this is referring to - a chance to revert a missed day towards your weekly prize. Really not sure how "streak" or "save" reads as "reroll your prize" to anyone

Mhh! I think the streak feature is as herdy said, there are other games that offers such a feature to save a daily login streak even If you miss a day (such as icepets), it's a premium thing there as well so it makes sense.

Is this website still losing money? It feels like a new merch item, NC item, or Premium Perk is introduced every other day. When will all this translate to a better website experience?

oh lol i'm fully willing to believe that the streak save isn't a reroll paywall and is in fact a streak freeze. it does in fact imply that more. it's just that we were only given ads and told nothing.

it would be great if we were told things in sentence format to clear up things like this.

I have suggested a streak freeze for the quest log a few times now, glad to see they might be implementing it. Twice now I've missed out on my final prize because of missing the last day. It's so frustrating.

I mean, Youtube is a financial loss but still runs (mostly) fine. Neo running at a loss is whatever imo. Lots of websites are running at a loss.

Also, while I agree that premium members should get some real, tangible information about these features (and hopefully we get it soon!), the ads aren't for us - they're to entice the people who don't yet have premium.

It'd be nice if they could keep premium running smoothly in the first place instead of continually adding worthless "perks". Especially with the US dollar exchange rate tanking for so many countries, premium is getting prohibitively expensive for next to nothing.

I would stay on premium if it's a perk to freeze streaks. I love Neopets and log on daily but I'm getting a little tired of doing the same 5 things everyday to make sure I don't lose progress on the weekly prize. I also hope they add more rewards to BD, rn the Nerkmids are the only thing I'm using Premium for.

tnt is really bad at communicating...if they told us they were implementing a new premium feature and that it temporarily(?) broke the skip button, maybe people wouldn't have been so upset. except for the part where they doubled down on calling us cheaters

So all of these seem alright.

"Streak Save Pass" is very likely for Quest Log (and @weirdee's post has me now too wondering whether the missing Re-Roll is itself an accident they tried to cover-up as a "fix" cause they don't want to touch the code anymore than they have to), though who knows maybe it can also be for Trudy's (though with how much NP she gives out, I can see them thinking breaking a Trudy's Surprise streak not being that major). But for Quest Log it would be a nice time saver.

Sad Past Battledome opponents are going to be made Premium exclusive, but at least it's not taking anything away from current BD (wouldn't mind if they also gave us normal players a way to battle these opponents, we don't even need the exclusive prizes that Premium players will get for defeating them). Though, that all said, wish they would get to some of the points I made in my previous post about the BD which includes new challengers: https://www.jellyneo.net/?go=comments&post=15179.

I’m fine with these perks but why on earth are they appearing in ads before any sort of announcement or clarity is made on what the perks are or will do lol. They really need to hire a communications or PR person…

Streak save pass might be why quest log got rerolls removed. Maybe they accidentally made it live before they added the part of the code to only have it apply to premium accounts and any coding needed to add a manual skip button.

Having it apply to Trudy would also be useful.

At the end of the day, they have to do what they can to make premium enticing; if they keep losing money we'll just lose the site entirely. Saving quest streaks for premium if you forget a day would indeed feel "unfair" for non-premium but it's also a whole lot less egregious than what they could do (and will do, if things get dire enough). All in all this seems fine to me, especially with the assurances that rerolling would not be paywalled. I'd much rather have some QoL gripes than no Neopets at all, and while they aren't doing the best job of walking the line between balancing premium rewards vs the non premium experience, they could be doing a hell of a lot worse and I can't complain too hard (outside of some pretty silly PR fumbles they've made, like the aforementioned rerolling situation and the implication that players were "exploiting" a feature *they added*)

Man they're really trying to think of anything and everything besides even more pet slots for premium users.

They should bring back sponsor games to get that sweet $$$. I thought Dom was networking all this time

Unpopular opinion: Using an exploit is not the same as cheating. Cheating is something done beyond the boundaries, rules, or abilities of the game. Using an exploit means staying within the boundaries of the game to do something the game didn't intend.

While i believe there should always be a free version of neopets available, (like youtube etc), a premium sub seems worth it to support a site like neopets.
...If they actually fixed the site...
The new features seems interesting, but imagine...
if they fixed the game library, turned dacaria into an onsite modern version of neoquest - the time spent would be insane!
if they fixed the neoboards, added comment or tag notifications, mods to control discord-like messaging boards - the community would become so much stronger!
if they improved communication and community posts/news - added the ability to comment or like/dislike, leave instant feedback, participate in onsite polls or community posts - the engagement would increase!
if they added back old site events, similar to wow where there's a filter/new URL that simulates the old version - traffic and returning players would go crazyyy.
and on and on
I know this is an expensive, tedious list; but I fear if they don't make some of this happen...the site will decline again. We have yet to see a timeline for their goals (based on what they are doing with premium money). I would love to support monetarily when i can, and would be more inclined if I could see the payoff of improvments.

In case anyone doesn't understand how the new premium perk is in conflict with the reroll: From programming perspective, the streak save is probably implemented as follows:

1. Streak doesn't reset if user doesn't complete one or more quests in the previous day(s), AND
2. Weekly reward doesn't change if user doesn't complete one or more quests in the previous day(s)

Both conditions must apply for Streak Save feature to work. To implement 2, they must take away the reroll. That explains why TNT insists that reroll is unintentional. Otherwise, they must admit they remove a F2P feature to implement a premium perk, which would cause a big uproar. What they didn't foresee is that, the removal of reroll would cause even a bigger backlash and we find out their intention anyway.

Even though this doesn't fall into the category of "removing a F2P feature and putting it behind the paywall", the idea is tangential. They remove a F2P feature to implement a premium perk, due to their limited ability to efficiently programme the perk. Worse thing is, this also affects their premium users negatively, since even premium users love to reroll. The lack of foresight is astonishing.

To be clear, I'm not against the ideas of giving more perks to premium users. I used to be a premium user too. However, I think TNT should consider what helps to retain premium subscription. For me, these perks may momentarily entice a temporary subscription, but if many features of website are broken, then I don't even want to stick around to enjoy these perks. I understand they need more money to fix the site, but I haven't seen noticeable gameplay improvements in the area that the players care about.

Some improvements are quite easy to make. For example, Customisation is a big part of the site, but Customisation contest is broken. Can they hold a monthly customisation contest like JN does? Does that take lot of TNT manpower? No. And it will drive engagement.

Battledome is a big part of the site too. Instead of throwing a few weapons, they can make it more engaging. For example, introduce 2-3 difficult high HP challengers that negate reflected damage. You will see the BD community come together to derive a way to beat them.

If designing is too time consuming, then hold contests. They have a large fan base that are willing to do these things for free. They can have an art competition with several categories: pet colour, petpet colour, background, token, item, BD item, etc.

Yeah they're definitely walking a dangerous line. It was telling when everyone assumed the quest reroll would be shifted into a premium perk...

There is definitely a line somewhere. They don't want to make premium totally pay to win, but then the things they add to premium don't exactly make it worth it.

Unrelated to streaks or recent additions, I feel like the yearly perk should be made into a free species/color change. People game it to get the color change anyways and with FFQs and MP drops, there's really no "rare" pets/colors any more, who cares?

I feel like the argument of "pay to win" is kind of moot now a days with how easy it is to make NP with little to no effort (e.g. quest log, trudy's), the insane amount of cheating the goes unchecked, etc.

It's like the difference between calling someone an idiot and calling them stupid. Either way, a large part of the userbase felt offended, and rightfully so.

Whether or not "well actually, technically it means.." , damage was done.

I have forgotten my scratch tickets so I wish there was a way to do a mass scratching of them or just delete them

@sakaarson an exploit would be against the site rules listed on neopets as it's "gaining an unfair advantage" so i'm not sure why the difference matters?

For me he easiest solution would be to hire actual dedicated fans to TNT, and that would solve like half of the problems.

I had premium but with reroll drama I suspended it and I dont know if I want to return. I dont want to be naysayer, but cmon, how much money do they need to fix broken things? All the NC stuff, the premium, the site trafiic they created with QL and plot...

They wont get any more if the site is in ruin and so many things dont work. Just my opinion.

Locking more features behind premium makes me want to stop playing; it does not make me want to start paying.

I have a feeling weekly quest rewards will be different for premium members now, so non-premium members will either hardly ever get worthy valuable Items for weekly rewards, or not...

YouTube is able to run at a loss because it's part of a huge umbrella company that is making tons of money. I'm pretty sure Dom isn't hiding an entire web empire in his back pocket.
