My goal is to try to vote on 100% of these and NOT get the avatar

I'd hoped it wouldn't be this, as now it's just going to be a concentrated effort on the avatar boards to make sure everyone votes for the same thing every day, rather than what they normally would.

Do you think they'll be any reward for how many of these best picks we choose? Also, is there a way to know which one is winning?

This is pretty sad. We’re being forced to suppress our opinions and vote for the most popular option. This goes against everything about individuality, expressing yourself, and just promotes a culture of conformity. Neopets I thought you were better than this

I vote for what I think is best, not for what I think is popular with others. So maybe I'll get the avatar this year.

@heznarrt: Technically it was trick-or-treating, which while the stories are fun, is ultimately just one day of the year. The other three last much longer and therefore are more memorable.

Advent Calendar in particular also has recency bias going for it. Probably had a lot of people voting for it because it's fresher in people's minds.

Honestly if you vote for what you want you'll probably hit the avatar at some point in the month regardless. Not the best release method but at least it isn't the wheel of sadness again

If the requirement is just getting one correct then, alright, with 27 categories even if you randomly guess the odds are you'll at least get one correct. So high I doubt players will need to purposely manipulate the results (at least not until we get past 20).

That said, I would still put in a contingency method like casting a vote in every category if somehow a player manages to never get a winning pick.

Also I will say this in addition concerning the Premium content: I like how TNT is handling it here. Granted the Neopies doesn't seem like an event where they would make Premium-only items, though just as I criticize if I don't like what they'er doing I will give credit when credit is due. Premium Players have a nice pool of bonus prizes, notably the two new Advent Calendar stamps (still a sore spot they were Premium prizes to begin with, but looks like they learned their lesson and at least atm trying to make more available while keeping them Premium exclusive (at least until next year)). I'm still holding out on Premium as I haven't fully forgiven them (and who knows how they'll do next event), but the attempt to mend their mistake is appreciated and if they keep up good decisions on how to handle it I'm more likely to change my mind sooner than later.

@ghoulbutch: Good luck, while generally you can fairly guess which candidate(s) aren't going to be popular, there have been past Neopies where the winner has surprises me (mostly when it comes to wearables and NC).

@ jimmycarlos: If last few years is anything to go by, final rewards is just based on how many you voted for, not for how many you got correct; Now THAT would just be inviting players to manipulate results. It also wouldn't be that helpful to TNT as this is one way they can see what things resonated with players the past year, figure out what players liked about it, and try to incorporate it in future plans.

Some decisions really show a certain superficiality from the current team. A little more thought wouldn't hurt.

@dave: While not something that'll completely change made plans, there are things one can deduce from winners that can try incorporating into what they were going to do. Like looking through last year's winners:

* "Advent Calendar" went to the ones depicting diversity in families, a some days from this year brought those families back and continued with their heartwarming messages.

* "NP Item" was Fyora Gnome, winning over the two which were references to things outside of Neopets (the Lutari-based Atari toy and the fruit that's clearly based on the Gomu Gomu Devilfruit from One Piece). These outside references are cute, but they also feel distracting and think players prefer items not only keeping things within Neopia but also part of previous existing series of items (a Fyora Gnome can fit into several Galleries based on Fyora, Faeries, Gnomes, and Gardening).

* "NP Wearable" was Service Petpet Doglefox over "flashier" wearables. I think the cuteness factor here carried it more than saying anything, though we did get a Kadoatie version a few months later.

* "Adent Prize" was Pebble of course, and this year we got Twig. Coincidence? I think not.

And so on and so fortth.

I do vote for the winner and don't receive the Av.

Definitely not a fan of the method to obtain this avatar, but as long as I end the month with it, that's all I care about.

re: Neopies feeling unserious when voicing opinions. I always see it as a way to gather player feedback via a survey, masked with an in-universe design.

...which is why I have an issue with the method to obtain this avatar as people may skew their answers in favor of obtaining the avatar, thus ruining the point of a feedback survey.

Oh dear. My take on neopets is so different than most people I never "get this right". It isn't me being contrary, it's just why would all y'all ever pick that?

Time to risk visiting the boards to see what other people are voting for I guess.

@pikachu315111: To throw out another example, the Museum Grarrl set won Best Species Specific Wearable last year. This year, we got similar clothing sets for the Tonu, Chomby, Pteri, and I think one other pet on their pet days.

Awful. People will just *have to* vote for what could win instead of voicing their own likes and opinion. I'm bad at the guessing game, hope I'll manage to get this avatar somehow.

We can all be very upset about this, but it's also still very early in the Neopies. Too early for some of the (premium) prizes to have dropped in price even. So there is still plenty of time to get this avatar now and you can bet your patootie that it's coming back next year (provided there is a next year and a next Neopies).

Of course that is easy for me to say, I already got it now > 3>

I like how you get that avatar! Let's be honest, with how long the neopies are it never happens that you don't vote for a winner multiple time in the month. There's no need to make boards about it, just vote for what you truly think is best. In all those year has it honestly happened that you NEVER vote like the majority? C'mo.

I'm also relieved it's not "don't miss a day of voting on the day" because I forgot yesterday ^^'

I don't know if the neopies have that much impact in the future of the game but I like voting, remembering the year, seeing all that I don't remember and be outraged when my vote is the least popular lol

I don’t think the votes will be very skewed if 35% of people who voted already got the avi first try by voting for advent. They have no reason to try and vote for what they think is popular vs what they personally enjoyed in the future polls. Every day more people will have the avi and the chances would be even lower as we continue. Y’all wildin out here

I'm also relieved this is the method for this avatar. Been playing Neopets daily for 3 years now and of course the one time I miss a day (due to a migraine, blech) is during an event like this lol.

I was sad because I missed out on voting yesterday because of the down time. When I went to vote today, they allowed me to vote for yesterday and today, so my streak is intact! I also got the avatar because I voted for Advent Calendar the first day.

i dont get the complaining, i think this is nice. i've always felt like there should be some acknowledgment of picking the winner, though i didnt have any specific ideas it just felt like there was something missing. and there's no need to manipulate the results bc there's soo many chances to get it. and even if you SOMEHOW dont pick a single winner, you still have next years neopies.

it's all rigged anyway bc my favorite events or new items are usually not even part of their lists lol

As of today (Feb 12th), I have not consulted the boards or any fellow Neopians regarding how I cast my votes, and I randomly got the avatar from yesterday's vote. There shouldn't be a need to manipulate the results with all the votes we have to cast, you should be able to get it on at least one
