Neopets.com Scheduled Downtime: Feb 5th & 6th

UPDATE, Feb 6th 6:30 PM NST: Quest Log has returned. Notably, the Completed quests tab is now gone, and the Skip button on the daily quests is also gone.



UPDATE, Feb 6th 1:55 PM NST: Quest Log is still down, and TNT has updated with an announcement that everyone today will be granted a grace period on their weekly streaks. This means that if you can't complete your 5 quests today, you shouldn't lose your streak progress come tomorrow.

Since Quest Log has been down for several hours, we have decided to grant a grace period for today for the weekly quest streak! Any users who were not able to complete quests today due to the maintenance should not lose weekly streak progress upon checking quests tomorrow!

So long as the feature is back online today, any users who still wish to complete their Daily Quests may do so and it will also not interfere with your weekly streak progression!



UPDATE, Feb 6th 12:19 PM NST: The second round of downtime is taking TNT longer than expected, so they are planning on bringing up the site except for Quest Log, which will remain offline for an unknown amount of time:

Some of our maintenance is taking longer than expected, but in order to avoid further disruption, we are temporarily disabling the Quest Log feature and bringing the rest of the site back up!

Quest Log is expected to be available again later today. Will provide further updates if necessary!

The site will be down for maintenance on February 5th at 10PM NST (Pacific Daylight Time) and February 6th at 10AM NST for about two hours.
Thank you!

To be clear, that's two separate downtime windows for about two hours each, starting 12 hours apart from each other.

This translates to the following timezones for the FIRST downtime window:
  • North America Pacific - 10:00 PM (5th) to ~12:00 AM (6th)
  • North America Mountain - 11:00 PM (5th) to ~1:00 AM (6th)
  • North America Central - 12:00 AM (6th) to ~2:00 AM
  • North America Eastern - 1:00 AM (6th) to ~3:00 AM
  • Brazil BRT - 3:00 AM (6th) to ~5:00 AM
  • Europe GMT - 6:00 AM (6th) to ~8:00 AM
  • Europe Central - 7:00 AM (6th) to ~9:00 AM
  • Europe Eastern - 8:00 AM (6th) to ~10:00 AM
  • Hong Kong - 2:00 PM (6th) to ~4:00 PM

Noooo! just lost chance to do my dailies and trudys which means I lose out on rare draik egg for weekly. So screwy I only found out when site crashed while doing my dailies and there were no notices on the main site game pages.

With the lack of notice I hope they have a way to redress players caught out by this. Constantly trying to refresh and praying not the full 2hrs. Whole wider family caught out too. Why the crazy cut so players are unable to complete the daily events & weekly progress.

well checked in and the weekly progress is set to zero completed meaning all past weekdays have been wiped as well and the days remaining counter is now set to only a day <24hr (instead of the many days previously). this site maintenance process is abusive and horrible to fans.

Dealing with plumbing problems and no water yesterday, I didn't get on until late to do my dailies. They were 2 minutes into the maintenance, so I figured I missed out on Trudy's, Neopies, and daily quest.

To my surprise, Trudy's had not reset. My quest progress was lost, but the prize is still the same. Most surprising, the Neopies let me vote in both today and yesterdays categories - 4 prizes!

The STR/DEF changes were probably the first time in recent downtime history where TNT actually released a feature update after downtime. Stuff like that doesn't need the site to go down to roll out.

Most of the time, these downtimes are for doing maintenance on the database or web servers that can't happen while users are accessing them. Adding database indexes, reconfiguring server configs, etc. The end result is more invisible to users: optimized load times, increased security, etc.

For all the downtimes we've had over the past year, TNT's made quite a few strides in speeding up the site and making things noticeably faster. They do that through the changes I just mentioned.

So, long story short, once the site comes back up, there *probably* won't be anything noticeably new.

its back up but with extreme lag, kind of expected and happens every time they do maintenance and first get back online, but daily quest log is not accessible

Quest log is at least part of the maintenance. They could have done other things as well but this just means quest log wasnt finished updating by the time they said they would go back online so they might of went back online early before they were finished. Quest log is definitely getting some kind of update though

Is anyone else experiencing extreme lag times? It's taking over a minute for any page to download- painful. I'm hoping this remedies itself.

lag seems to have resolved but daily quests are down still. Unfortunately, lag is expected after maintenance. Because everyone who would of been on at 10 and 11 all bunch in with the 12 o clock ppl and lots of people will sit and refresh. It probably will lag again when quest log comes back online because now there will be at least 4 hours of people bunching into that one hour, and thats assuming it comes back online any time. Every hour its offline more and more ppl will be forced to check all at once when it comes back online.

i agree there are many issues that could be updated quickly
random things even like adding r100s to shops or fixing kacheekers or old avatars and bd challengers that no longer unlock. They do what they want though. Every time I find something funny or useful they change it immediately. in seconds. like the faerie chatters old name. or the ability to make ur gallery background fit to the window size automatically. My guess by their track record lately they probably fixed the double quests glitch. Which I actually liked. It rarely happened but I'm not gonna complain about getting double prizes or an extra negg but I see boards constantly with "Double quests in quest log?" titles so thats probably what they are fixing more realistically.

Maintenance is done. I started doing my dailies, was able to complete a few. But when I got to the Omelette I was logged out. I haven't been able to log back in since. It's been about 2 hours.

The login button and enter key are both not submitting the request to login to neopets. It just sits there as if I hadn't clicked anything at all.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

So. Maintenance is still going on. Quest Log is under maintenance, so I cannot complete. I hope this doesn't ruin my weekly log. Since it's not our fault.

I think the two AdCal stamps were included in the Premium prize pool for the Neopies to try and lessen the outcry of them (I stand by new stamps should never be Premium exclusive, there's plenty of existing rare stamps they can give to Premium members).

And I think for now that is enough, there was no other (major) issue with any other Premium exclusive AdCal gift. I would leave them all alone for the entire year, though I think a year's time is enough exclusivity that next year they can be treated as bonus prizes for wherever (like for the AdCal Premium Gifts, when next year rolls around they can have some be Reina bonus gifts which will mostly keep their rarity but still distiribute them to lucky players). It's not like they're No Trade, infact I'm pretty sure only the stamps held any high value.

That all said, with them adding in Premium content wherever they can, I wonder if maybe we'll be seeing a Premium section for Quest Logs. Premium players get like 3 bonus daily quests each day (awards will still be from the normal prize pool; maybe there will be a few items that are Premium Quest exclusives) and if they do them all along with the normal quests than they'll get two Weekly Prizes, the one they were expecting and a random bonus one from an exclusive Premium prize pool.

I'd be honest, even something like that would make me tempted to get Premium (plus finally do something more with the Daily Quests, it's been like a year or so now since and still nothing for the "Event" tab, plus the "Tutorial" tab is completely pointless once you done all Tutorial Quests. While I would like them to actually use the Event tabs during events, I wouldn't be against getting rid of the Tutorial tab and adding in a "Premium" tab with what I suggested above).

They removed the skip button. At least, my quest log is not currently showing the ability to skip a quest.

I can understand the removal of both. They were probably added just in case they maybe would have a use in the future. However:

* There's no point in knowing all the past quests you've done (and if I recall was really laggy when it checked it).

* Skipping doesn't do anything different than just not doing the quest/completing but not collecting the prize. Also I've accidentally clicked on the skip button a few times almost costing me a streak. Finally it may have also given new users the misconception that they didn't have to do that quest but still got credit, only to discover they did need to do the skip quest (which they can no longer do) to continue with the streak.

Does anyone else have their Trudy notifications working backwards now?? Just now was my first login for today, and I noticed I didn't have a Trudy notification. I only received it after spinning the Trudy wheel. And now I'm unable to clear it.

The thing about quest log is that it don't work the same for all devices and browsers, I have always had to use the skip button.

Useless button imo, glad it’s gone. Same with completed quests, don’t need to know that and it probably just took up space and slowed the page down.

I've found the "skip" button useful if I want a particular daily prize but have no interest in the weekly item. In my experience, if I do ANY of the daily quests without skipping at least one, the weekly item will stay there for the next day, but still at 0 progress. Maybe it's a coincidence?

@heznarrt: That's correct. You just don't do one of the daily quests to re-roll the weekly prize. It worked like that before, too. Clicking the Skip button was just an undoable "I want to re-roll".

You can even complete the action (feed your pet, spin that wheel, etc.)--as long as you don't claim the award for the daily.

Also note for a few other comments above, if you receive ANY checkmarks towards a weekly prize (e.g. you do day 1 and get a check, then decide you want to re-roll), it will take two days to get a new prize. It's only an immediate re-roll after one day if you made zero progress.

I don't understand what they meant with "grace day". I thought we were getting the day counted as "completed" because of the down time affecting the completion of the tasks, Today I did my dailies, QL included, then noticed I was still missing a day (did every other day this week, but the one with the maintenance issues).
And I had a petpet brush as a weekly prize -sigh-

Another voice in the chorus of "my weekly prize didn't reroll". Mine is still the same as the day before the down time. On the day before the downtime, I had a morphing potion as my weekly prize. I decided to reroll by skipping one daily. On the day of the downtime, I had a snotbunny, so I decided to reroll again. AFTER the downtime, my weekly was reset to the morphing potion and that hasn't changed since despite me skipping at least one daily quest every day since. If this is a "feature" and not a buy, it would have been nice if TNT had communicated this clearly so I didn't waste 4 days trying to reroll, instead working on something I'm not interested in hoping my next prize will be better.

I don't know how you can release something and not post an announcement/newspost RIGHT AWAY.
Or even if something breaks, even during the weekends, who not make a quick forum post on the official TNT message board acknowledging the situation.

I can't reroll either, and I sent in angry feedback to TNT. I got a response from Blake saying,

"We're sorry about the issues you're experiencing with the Quest Log. The developers are aware of this ongoing site-wide issue and are actively working on a solution.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your patience and understanding. Unfortunately, we're unable to reward any items or points that weren't awarded due to these glitches."

I replied back asking him to confirm he understood the issue, because it doesn't seem accidental that they removed the skip button and now we can't skip weekly quests.

For reference, here's what I said in my ticket:

"I just noticed you changed it so that we can no longer bypass weekly awards we weren't interested in. Now we're forced to accept weekly prizes we don't like. I don't understand this change at all. Being able to wait for a prize I was interested in was the ONLY thing that kept me interested in the quest log. It had a self regulating effect, too, in that I had to make sacrifices in order to wait. I would miss out on daily quest rewards, and there was a chance an appealing weekly prize would never appear. It felt balanced and exciting. Now it feels pointless and uninteresting. Nothing could ever induce me to work toward an award I am not interested in. You've killed the entire feature for me and I won't be participating in it anymore at all. Why would you do this, it makes absolutely no sense."

I really mean it when I say that nothing can induce me to work toward a prize I'm not interested in. As far as I'm concerned, quest log is dead to me until this changes.
