@silvia: Like with everything else they done on the site, it'll probably be a double-play that'll be locked to Premium (and depending on the Daily we Base Experience players may get a chance after watching an ad, though I'm still waiting for them to enable that for the BD's additional 5 prizes).

@androponix: No, they have the right to complain. They're over-exaggerating the issue, but the issue is still there. Sure, they're not fully pay-walling content, but there's other ways which they skew the balance toward Premium to the point where it begins to feel like pay-to-win (or rather pay-to-get-the-better-stuff).

Last year's Advent Calendar was a major example of this, I felt a lot of the Base Experience prizes were mainly junk while most of the new item prizes Premium Players got were something of value (notably the number of new Stamps they got). Hopefully this year will be more balanced.

Also let's not forget how they're really pushing Neocash into things, almost to an intrusive degree. Right off the top of my head are Pet Days, which used to get two NP clothing sets, but now it's one NP set (which many times just felt like a giant costume that completely replaces the Neopet) while the other is an NC Capsule and they've put a lot of more work into (though I do recognize they've also been fixing clothing sets). Then there was a batch of shenanigans they started to do with the Void Within plot, especially the extra points boosters. And then there's smaller yet sill significant things like Prismatics releasing a New Colour before its actually available on the site (recent cases being many 25th Anniversary Neopets and the Halloween Ogrin).

Yes, at the end of the day their pixels... but you can swing that argument around why are TNT charging so much and so frequent for them? As consumers we do need to keep aware if TNT is crossing a line and hold them to task to course correct. There is a balance, but the TNT we have our now more business minded and they're going to try and push that line.

@androponix - So are the words you're reading. Everything you're looking at on your screen is pixels. The bank balance in your online banking is just pixels too. I guess none of it matters, huh? A book is 'just paper', music is 'just noises', your body is 'just cells'.

Being dismissive about a person's feelings in order to make them seem outrageous isn't just unkind, it's hypocritical.

I think any level of sarcastic criticism of TNT is warranted right now. They have been taking their monetization of Neopets way too far, and I don't think enough people are looking at it critically enough. We all want the sight to profit, and we all want it to continue, and I think most of us are more than happy to pay to help that happen, but there has to be a limit somewhere.

I think we have a role to play in setting those limits. The more we tolerate, the further things will go. Remember when the first deluxe items were released in the store? Remember people's reaction to having to pay increased prices for backgrounds? How quaint it all seems now that things have gone wildly beyond anything we could have imagined back then.

There's also something called empathy, it's dirty to show the premium gifts to free players on an event that it's clearly about gifting without expecting nothing in return. The irony

I understand the frustration of some, while at the same time I think there's some exaggeration in this issue.

I interpret it as P2P when we can't actually play without spending some money. Which isn't the case here. The Advent Calendar is still active, awarding prizes for free, but with a benefit for those who want to support the site. The plot is playable, with boosts for those who don't want to grind. I don't feel pressured to spend money on Neopets in any way.

Regarding customization, the more aggressive business strategy is clear. However, it's all just a CHOICE. I choose, for example, not to spend money on anything related to the Styling Studio, but once a year I consume Stocking Stufftacular. And that seems fair to me. We are consumers deciding what we will consume.

Again: I understand the frustration, but I also understand the business strategy. They need to prove the monetary value of Neopets, otherwise the site ceases to exist. That's the math.

Here I TOTALLY disagree, my friend. Until this new TNT came along and launched the Quest Log, we had stamps worth billions and items that only veteran players and collectors with money like Scrooge McDuck could find.

Neopets has always adhered to capitalist "ethics." All events revolved around superhuman effort, such as the Altador Cup, which proved unsustainable over time.

Got a snot zap and saw someone else get s petpet lav only color on their first zap today too- maybe odds are increased?

Also, Donny fixed a toy for free, wondering if that is a part of winter benefits!

Alright everyone, calm down, we all have our thoughts on how TNT have been handling the monetization. But I think we've naturally reached a point both cases have been made and its up to the comment readers to decide which side of the argument they agree with.

And guess Donny fixing toys for free is nice, though he didn't charge a lot anyway, also been a long time since I had to use his services so I'm surprised anyone discovered that so soon, lol. TNT should find more to do with him (or at the very least make more broken version of toys; though now I'm wondering if maybe they can give him a new feature where he can make something by us giving him all those spare pieces of junk items we get from Berry Picking and Fishing).

Not sure if you'll see this, but them adding the Items' Category at the end of the name is something they've been oddly doing here-and-there. It's mostly been with books which titles would have been fine without the "Book" at the end:

It's not all books thankfully, but its enough to be noticeable. And now that we have a Petpetpet with a perfectly fine species name but still has "Petpetpet" at the end, this feels like the doing of one TNT member who wants to make it clear what the item is. I don't think it's out of any ill will, they're just being over catious (maybe they're also more used to naming Album and Weareable items which do require their Category in the name at the end).
