Upcoming December TNT AMA

TNT have announced the date for the next AMA with Dom, the Neopets CEO. This will be held at 5pm NST on Thursday, December 12th. It's expected to be watchable live on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Twitch.

This AMA has been dubbed the "The Winter Edition" and will feature Neopets CEO Dom Law as usual. It will also include discussion with TNT Stone and TNT Goldfish in Bowl.

There will be a Rare Item Code made available during the livestream for an unknown prize, which we'll post about here on JN once the code is released. Specifically, the social media posts promise "an EXCLUSIVE universal item code redeemable at Grundo’s warehouse." Additionally, live viewers will have the chance to win "holiday presents."

A Neoboard topic has been set up by TNT Luna to solicit questions for Dom.

I'll do that ASAP

Yay 2am again.. I'm assuming "real-time prize giveaway" means you have to be there, live.
Would it hurt them to do these a LITTLE earlier every once in a while? -_-
by biediep on December 2, 2024 8:40 AM NST
Yeah, I lost interest in these long ago. Never able to watch live because they're in the middle of the night here anyway. And the content of the few I tried to catch up with later just seemed to drone on and on and wasn't very informative.

Thank you, thank you Jellyneo staff for putting up all the relevant points in your wonderful summary so I don't have to wade through the video. Very much appreciated.

I'm guessing the inconvenient timing is because they try to find a time that works for their contributors in USA, Hong Kong and sometimes Australia. Europe just gets pushed out of the loop as an unfortunate side effect.

Yea the videos are quite long and it often takes an hour for them to get to the (actual important) questions.

Also, I don't wanna be rude but I feel like no matter what the question is or what the answer is, the host always goes "hmhm, hmhm, yea, totally. Ok next question" which annoys me :'3

... 'mg.
by gnostichkdum on December 2, 2024 9:54 AM NST
@biediep, yes that response by the hosts really annoys me too. Particularly if the question was actually ignored and/or sidelined in the reply.

Am I a horrible person for saying I really can't stand TNT Luna as a host? She seems like a sweet person, but I don't enjoy her as a host. Everything is too bubbly and aggressively cheery and loud, and frankly her interactions with the guests and especially Dom are not engaging and don't add anything meaty or substantive to the discussions.

I miss Kevin.

I feel like since we've had Luna as host, the first half of every discussion is just ego stroking the person who's arrived, then a few tibits of info, then wrapping it all up with tons of nervous laughter. As others have said, she never, ever digs into a topic, she just moves along to the next thing. It's so frustrating.

No shade on her as a person. Like I said, she seems like a sweet person and someone I'd probably enjoy talking with on a personal level, but as a host I don't enjoy her. She doesn't appear to have a journalistic bone in her body, or any interest in actually 'going after the answer' or 'going after the story' in a discussion. She doesn't actually interview people, she makes small talk with them.

All that aside, these AMAs are mostly pointless.
by neolodgeism on December 2, 2024 1:00 PM NST
@neolodgeism, that's because these AMAs are just meant to be PR sessions. They're not meant to be in-depth interviews or to go after the answer. They're meant to be a promotional tool.
by bacon on December 2, 2024 1:34 PM NST
@bacon, that’s true; but the presentations are frequently so vapid they don’t even do that.
by recklesse on December 2, 2024 1:49 PM NST
@bacon Of course there's a PR element. They wouldn't be doing any of this at all if they weren't trying to appease/appeal to the player base. However, they have also repeatedly stated that they're trying to better communicate with the player base, trying to be more transparent, etc. and I believe them. If they didn't also have those motives, they wouldn't bother doing this every month. I'm sure they all have better things to do with their time.

But as a viewer, these AMAs are meaningless if you're going to get a fluffy insider to host things, someone who is not in any way representative of the player base and doesn't share any of our concern or inquisitiveness about the issues.

In any interview, the interviewer is meant to be the liaison between the viewer/listener/reader and the person being interviewed. They should always have the audience's interests at heart, and dig into things that are of interest to the audience.

Luna is a TNT rep, and one who appears to be nothing but a cheerleader for TNT. As soon as she was made host of these, they lost all relevance to the user base. Not just because she doesn't have any instincts as a host, but also because she is not representative of the audience.

No company is going to bring in a host who is digging for dirt, obviously, but if they really want these AMAs to mean anything at all, they need to bring in hosts who are OUTSIDE of the company, and who will give good-faith interviews. Otherwise it's just... why would I watch any of this?
by neolodgeism on December 2, 2024 2:14 PM NST
@neolodgeism I guess I see these AMAs as a way to "reassure" people that they're working on the website, and in the meantime, to tell people there's new merch on the way!

I mean, the roadmap we got from them during the last AMA (I think?) was very comprehensive when it came to new upcoming merch but very vague when it came to the website itself.
by bacon on December 2, 2024 3:49 PM NST
@bacon - Whatever the purpose of the AMAs is - and we can debate that all day, and it can be (and probably is) several things at once - their choice of host matters. And Luna is not a good choice, in my opinion. Especially if they're trying to reassure people.
by neolodgeism on December 2, 2024 6:41 PM NST
I can understand the frustration, albeit in a different community... It'll take me seeing the mobile layout separate from the web version and the web layout return to v2.0 to start believing.

I really liked seeing TNT_UnKnown answer questions about how things get fixed (or don't). I hope he felt respected and welcomed and safe so he'll come back in future.
