The Void Within: November 7th Update

UPDATE, ~2PM NST: TNT appear to have finally fixed the 'Go with the Flow' achievement for correctly finishing a Voidworks puzzle first time. You can now properly claim it, but will need to complete a new puzzle perfectly in order to qualify.

As a note, today marks the last day that the entirety of all plot activities will remain up prior to the plot going on hiatus. Void Essences are due to stop appearing from the end of today until the plot resumes at some point in the new year. Other plot activities will gradually begin to wind down over the coming days until the plot as a whole enters hiatus on November 11th.

Today, page 14 of chapter 7 has been made available under the Story tab.

Reading the comic will grant you an additional +1 plot point along with the following item:

Receive 5 plot points less from your last round of battling despite successfully clearing all waves? This is a visual glitch only that started occurring on August 8. Although the battle rewards pop-up says you received 5 points less than expected, you in fact received all points, and can confirm as such on the Rewards page and our Checklist Tool.

I know it's realistic and all, and also fits in the current mood of the story, but I would have preferred if Fyora had been portrayed more powerful than this. She's not even really facing any *real* problems yet, as Vira and her painter haven't reached Altador, nor do they seem interested in Faerieland at the moment.

But yes, the weight of a crown is like the sword of Damocles...

Looks like Ozzy and Vira haven't reached Altador yet
by kacheekfan96 on November 7, 2024 6:41 AM NST
@tapophis324 If we look at the writings of the Faerie Artificer Trick-or-Treat Bag on Halloween, it seems Fyora is having the epiphany that perhaps this fairie, once a friend, may have been the creator of the Brush that Ozzy is using. In the epilogue of the Fairie Festival 2023 we see a silhouette saying that Fyora might suspect something, sink into anxiety, but that she wouldn't do anything until she was absolutely sure. This fairie probably really knows Fyora, because they were friends, in addition to the leader-led relationship.

"Then, I woke to a stone-cold realisation.
The years had worn away my convictions, driven me to clutch secrets tight to my chest.
How could either of you truly be to blame for your missteps,
When your leader failed to guide you down the right path?

I thought I saw you last night.
Then I remembered,
because of me,
there's nothing left of you..."

Oh the art seems to have improved, Altador actually looks good here!
by darella on November 7, 2024 9:25 AM NST
@apophis324: I know what you mean, like Altador is being used here as the wise old mentor figure... except Fyora is thousands of years older than him. Like, if any character would be acting as a peacekeeper between the arguing leaders, it would be Fyora.

Maybe it's also the presentation. I don't really see Fyora as one to sulk. Like if I was writing this scene I would have had her standing in deep thought. And then when Altador joined her and comments on the arguing, instead of a "sob" I would have put a "sigh". I get Altador is a good friend so if there's any character she could cry around it would be him, but I'd also feel this would be something done when there's a break in meetings. During meetings she'd be either there to moderate or, if she does decide she needs a moment, would be a quick walk outside to clear her head.

Now, maybe if they implied like the Void was giving off a negative energy that was creating tension and dampening feelings, this scene would show how over time, even if a land isn't Grey Cursed, the effect is spreading and hampering efforts to combat it. Fyora is sinking into a deep sadness (maybe due to information she knows or suspects, or as a Faerie in a room filled with Neopets is feeling the stranger), Altador doesn't seem that affected though they could mean he's feeling more muted (I imagine the Altador Council work pretty well together, so having a room full of arguing leaders is a sombering feeling), and leaders who have rivalries with one another or are strongeheaded just in general are feeling for tense & angry (which are feeling those who aren't with anxiety or maybe starting to work them up).

Or if not that, could maybe have Fyora be introspective about how she thought it was going to go and how it actually is and she feels out-of-the-loop on the world; an issue she worried the Faeries have gotten. Also, as a being who lives for thousands of years (if not immortal), and one that has lived for that long, she's having diffi
by pikachu315111 on November 7, 2024 9:52 AM NST
... she's having difficulty working with mortal beings that have their personal quirks and interests as a concern instead of putting it aside for the greater good. At that point it would make sense Altador, while "younger" than Fyora is a longer lived mortal being, would have a closer perspective on things. Still frustrating for him, but less on a "I thought this would go differently" and more on a "I was worried these personal issues would come up".
by pikachu315111 on November 7, 2024 9:53 AM NST
I agreed I was SHOCKED to see Fyora crying. Not that leaders don't cry or that they shouldn't but there has been literally no on-ramp in the comics for me to understand why she would even be emotional AT ALL.
by tralala on November 7, 2024 11:38 AM NST
Helpful at least @allanmennezess for that background about the Trick or Treat bag lore.
by tralala on November 7, 2024 11:39 AM NST
Commenting this here but the Go With the Flow achievement is now FIXED. I received it today after completing voidworks (there was about 10 seconds left on the clock when I completed my puzzle today.)
by badgerclaws on November 7, 2024 2:00 PM NST
Got the achievement aswell. I had to play only one level and rf'd until I could orchestrate it wtihout a click too much and the final piece last. Just in case.
by lia_19_85 on November 7, 2024 2:21 PM NST
damn how dare a woman in a position of power dare show any vulnerability or emotion 😔
by gun on November 7, 2024 2:28 PM NST
Got the achievement by completing the one level I got without mistakes in the allotted time. A tip for anyone messing up the puzzles: if you turn the pieces too many times just refresh the page before the timer runs out and you'll be able to restart the same level. I did it 5 times because it was a complex level and still managed to get the achievement.
by diffendur on November 7, 2024 2:28 PM NST
@gun: That is not what any of us were saying. It just doesn't feel logical or fitting for this part in the story.
As pikachu315111 points out, a sigh of defeat, of exhauation, would be way more in place at this moment that a sob.

What I think would be a logical moment for her to break is when she is somehow faced with her best friend of eons past, the Faerie Articifer. Sure it is said that nothing of her remains.. but maybe she was banished to the Void and can now return. Seeing her friend, likely full of hatred, that is when I believe it is more logical for the story for her to cry.

The rift in the sky leaking in negative emotions is an interesting thought. But so far we haven't really seen evidence of that. If that was implied in the story, then TNT has done a good job hiding it...

In any case: Of course Fyora is allowed to cry but she is not the person to normally do so and now is not the time.
by apophis324 on November 7, 2024 2:38 PM NST
Ugh, I'd already played Voidworks today (VERY quickly with minimum clicks cause it was extremely easy, so i assume they fixed it after, OF COURSE), so i can't play again. I'm assuming I'll be able to get the avie tomorrow... Please TNT do not screw me over twice.
by yekith on November 7, 2024 2:50 PM NST
I got a really easy Voidworks this morning, too...
by purplebin on November 7, 2024 3:11 PM NST
I got the Achievement the second time I completed the puzzle this afternoon (I blew the first time )!
by dolamant on November 7, 2024 3:16 PM NST
I did just get it, but weirdly, I'm fairly sure I made mistakes? I know I clicked some pieces more times than strictly necessary because I had a really hard puzzle and after many refreshes I just want to get the puzzle done and didn't care about clicking too many times.
by woodstocki on November 7, 2024 3:26 PM NST
I got the Go With The Flow achievement just a minute ago! ^^
by puffkins2000 on November 7, 2024 3:50 PM NST
I got the achievement, but am pretty sure I made mistakes. Not complaining though! I'm glad they finally fixed it!
by goldennightfox on November 7, 2024 4:33 PM NST
Finally got my achievement! Yay!
by allanmennezess on November 7, 2024 4:49 PM NST
Got it also but had to refresh 9-10 times to get it correct
by premium17 on November 7, 2024 5:02 PM NST
@pikachu315111 I think it more of a contrass between the two characters. King Altador went thru heck with people forgetting what their history is and losing their culture for a long while thanks to the dark faerie. While Fyora despite her faerieland went thru a ton of heck like even literally partially fallen down and partially damaged and they just they just brush it off like it was nothing. but the void seem like something dangerous in Fyora POV and can really wreck havok to their powers probably permanently becoming like the grey faerie.

I don't remember Fyora being this distress for every plot that involved faerieland and they were the main focus for a few plots.

FINALLY got Go With The Flow my first try! I mean, technically my 2nd I guess, but the 1st was glitched.

Man, that's been bugging me this whole time! Whew.
by scootypuffjr on November 7, 2024 7:02 PM NST
Omg seriously? I played it earlier today... and now this is the last day to do it and they fixed it and I can't play again until tomorrow? Ugggggh come on TNT
by brophyvirginia on November 7, 2024 7:50 PM NST
FINALLY!! After trying for months, I was finally able to do this task and get the Fearless Deed “Go with the flow” finished! I might’ve missed when JN team posted that in order to get this step to be finished, it had to be done in one game, period! And so I missed it from the very beginning and I’m glad they reset it now and I was able to do it before they go on hiatus!
by lokaula on November 7, 2024 8:57 PM NST
Got the achievement as well, was not a perfect game as I didn't do it in 30sec or less. I think the FAQs said you'd get it if you did three perfect games at some point...? Just need to complete a game period now to make it recognize that, I suppose
by _mickers_ on November 7, 2024 9:12 PM NST
This comic came way out of left field.
by sakaarson on November 7, 2024 9:53 PM NST
I agree with everyone that it is weird. I can see her being unhappy over things or exasperated (like someone else said, "Sigh" would have been better).

I don't have issue with her crying (I can especially see it if thevillain does end up being someone she knew as suggested), but this seems out of nowhere and not really in character for her.
by teresa on November 7, 2024 11:50 PM NST
I did not get Go With The Flow achievement even though I finished correctly no problem, first time through, time had not run out, and I got a paintbrush and np, just not the achievement. Not happy about this.
