TNT Announces Pause for The Void Within Plot

This morning, TNT has shared a surprise announcement on their official Neoboard: The Void Within will go on pause at the end of the current chapter 7, which is scheduled to end Sunday, November 10.

Hello Neopians
We're pausing the Void Within plot between Chapters 7 and 8 to make exciting improvements based on your feedback. Thank you all for your energy and insights — your involvement has been incredible!

During this brief break, plot-related activities like void point collection, battles, volunteering, comics, and achievements will pause.

We have plenty of holiday events planned for the rest of this year, and The Void Within will return after the holiday season in early 2025!

Check out our FAQ below for more details. Rest assured, you'll be able to complete your plot goals and face new BD challenges when we're back!

https://classic.support.neopets.com/hc/en-us/sections/27341322949773-The-Void-Within

The Neopets Team
The FAQ states a return during "first quarter of 2025," so we can expect the pause to last, at a bare minimum, through the end of the year.

The FAQ also gets a tad more specific with what will be changing when it returns, which TNT is referring to as "episode 2":

What will change once episode 2 starts?
1. Bug fixes
2. More difficult battledome challengers
3. New battledome and prize items
4. More games
5. Daily activities will be rebalanced to allow players to enjoy the plot at a more relaxed pace.
6. The plot pacing will be re-arranged to improve story cadence.

The FAQ also includes a few notable updates we want to highlight. However, please take all notes with caution—the official FAQs are frequently inaccurate.

New chapters every three weeks?!? I know they're trying to make it less of a grind, but if the plot is still going the same length of time, the underlying problem is still the same. My problem isn't there's too much to do each day, it's that the plot is going on, and on, and on, and on...
by bacon on November 1, 2024 10:03 AM NST
Very well, but what about the people who can not seem to get the Tea with Tavi avatar, even after 40 quests???? Is that going to be fixed too?
by heksy69 on November 1, 2024 10:09 AM NST
I'm happy the 'go with the flow' achievement will be fixed at least
by pd_what on November 1, 2024 10:16 AM NST
Actually pretty glad I don't have to worry about keeping up during the holidays. I'm a clandestine Neopets player!

And no one really needs (or wants) 400 void snowballs, or hospital gowns, do they? The hospital volunteering prizes are a joke at this point. I get maybe one strength serum per week and the rest is unwanted. Did no one have the foresight to know that this would happen?

My feeling is that prizes should be mostly useful - not just collector's items. Why continue to clog the servers with useless junk?

Games without bugs would be welcome. So would more challenging BD opponents.

Hopefully they can take the time to fix things and alleviate the boredom and frustration for us.

Thankful.
by faellie_ridiculous on November 1, 2024 10:20 AM NST
I just hope they also balance the common BD challengers prizes, because without the plot enemies we would need 120+ battles to achieve the 50k cap
by asmodhieus on November 1, 2024 10:26 AM NST
Plot games will remain available during the pause. This includes Voidworks, Cosy Campfire Collection, and Tea Time with Tavi. These games will continue to award items and Neopoints, but not plot points or achievements.
by premium17 on November 1, 2024 10:28 AM NST
Actually really appreciate that they are taking feedback on this. The pause is really appreciated over the holidays. Hopefully they can figure things out and it’ll come back strong next year
by nightshadeswiftswing on November 1, 2024 10:33 AM NST
I think that overall this is really good news.
by purplebin on November 1, 2024 10:35 AM NST
The news is good. TNT has made several mistakes, but the fact that it recognizes them and responds to feedback is a step in the right direction.

I hope the plot returns with a larger release of comics/steps. This will certainly bring extra energy to those who also follow on going, day by day. One page every day or every other day was a... strange choice.
by allanmennezess on November 1, 2024 10:36 AM NST
Yay! I am ready for a break and over the holidays is the best time to do it.
by topaz644 on November 1, 2024 10:52 AM NST
You know what they say, To be Continued.

I'm glad they're listening to feedback, and hope the improvements will actually make a difference!
by lasergu on November 1, 2024 11:16 AM NST
This is the best decision they’ve made in awhile
by elina on November 1, 2024 11:21 AM NST
We are going to have a little plot break?

Oh joy!
by xxsinger on November 1, 2024 11:22 AM NST
Very neat! I can't wait!
by lidorajaka on November 1, 2024 11:29 AM NST
When does the break start and when does it end? I didn’t catch what they mean
by xxsinger on November 1, 2024 11:33 AM NST
Oh good. I can focus on the holidays and look forward to the Advent Calendar. It's been all I could do to keep up with essence and hospital shifts.
by claytonskitten on November 1, 2024 11:38 AM NST
i... don't know. the complaints on the neoboards get really toxic at times. while they seem to be taking good tips, i worry about what they're getting as feedback.
by affluentia on November 1, 2024 11:39 AM NST
"More difficult battledome challengers" - Nice. I hope they mean it. I've spent years training up my BD pet and it often seems to all be for nothing.
by redgeisha on November 1, 2024 12:09 PM NST
This is great news! I'm glad to know they're finally listening to feedback, even if it took this long. I'm not sure if most of the problems with the plot will improve but this is certainly a starting point. Pausing the plot is a great solution, and the timing couldn't be better, it already felt suffocating to have so many things happening at once on previous months.
by thecrazyoo on November 1, 2024 12:10 PM NST
I'm kind of glad they're taking a bit of a break from it. It's getting a bit stale doing the same things over and over again.
by puffkins2000 on November 1, 2024 12:32 PM NST
I am also grateful for the break over the holidays , but...
I wonder what will happen to those pets that are in the dome/volunteering once the pause starts? Will everything be cancelled or will the pets stay in limbo? And if the latter, will users no longer be able to use the dome and will we get the same problems we had when volunteering first started?
by eddaw on November 1, 2024 12:40 PM NST
I really hope TNT thinks everything through carefully.
by eddaw on November 1, 2024 12:42 PM NST
YAY! I've been feeling so burnt out on this plot. Can't wait for the break!
by _rodeo_ on November 1, 2024 12:45 PM NST
Unrelated, but thank you JN for bringing back the green jelly kacheek to the front page! I did however find a glitch that once I switched to other themes, and I can't change back to the default theme, but that's ok.
Looking forward for more updates on the new layout to make it look colourful and visually appealing again!
by spongegrundo on November 1, 2024 12:46 PM NST
Oh, nevermind, it fixed by itself
by spongegrundo on November 1, 2024 12:47 PM NST
Part of me is glad that there’s going to be a pause in the plot during the holidays and part of me hates it thanks to the non restorative sleep disorder that I have it means that I’ll have less to do while attempting to get some actual sleep instead of just dozing off for around 30 minutes here and there throughout any given day.
by morbidheart on November 1, 2024 1:48 PM NST
Sounds great! Thanks for the summary!
by toru_ on November 1, 2024 1:54 PM NST

by heznarrt on November 1, 2024 2:04 PM NST
Nice idea. I hope they use the time and also bring us more different tasks for the questlog. Neo has so much more to do than the same 6 tasks. Also would love new smileys for neopets - maybe a void smiley?
by nataliea on November 1, 2024 2:10 PM NST
Thank goodness! I've stopped reading the pages because of the staccato nature of the page drops, and I haven't done Void essence collection in like a month. It all got soo tedious, which is a shame, as I was really excited for a genuine plot at first :/
by khaytra on November 1, 2024 2:16 PM NST
I am completely fine with this. I wasn't aware they were even taking feedback, but I appreciate it all the same.
by zodia195 on November 1, 2024 2:23 PM NST
I wonder If this pause will meam an extensionof the plot's duration comes afterward
by slava on November 1, 2024 2:26 PM NST
I'm delighted to hear that the Go with the Flow should be obtainable again! I'm locked out of it at present.

I hope that the plot stays on hiatus until after the Advent Calendar ends. The amount of dailies on the site can be overwhelming sometimes, especially for people who have limited time to play in a given day.
by morganjoisle on November 1, 2024 2:30 PM NST
Oh drat. I probably won't make it to 60K plot points before it breaks. I wanted to see the new Site Event Trophy and get the last of the p3s and other plot prizes on my checklist. Maybe next year. Sigh.

Have a great holiday season, TNT. Whatever's going on behind the scenes, please keep calm and carry on with the hope and joy!
by galifan on November 1, 2024 2:35 PM NST
Oh! Well, this was unexpected. o.o It's very much appreciated, though. I was experiencing major burnout to the point where even the story was being forgotten as soon as I read it. x.x Never a good sign.

Anyway, glad they're listening to feedback and others can get that Voidworks avatar soon!
by powerwingamber on November 1, 2024 2:48 PM NST
Yay for more relaxed dailies!

But PLEASE let them fix the voidworks achievement, it’s ridiculous that it was only obtainable on your first try, even after reactivating the game

I'm more happy to not have to grind these mindless activities for the time being than anything else.
by infernodragon02 on November 1, 2024 4:01 PM NST
I'm glad they're taking time to fix it, even if I enjoy having new plot content daily(ish). I've been enjoying the plot a fair amount so far, but there's definitely room for improvement.
by dragonair23 on November 1, 2024 4:14 PM NST
Good. It's not like it's gotten anywhere, anyway. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The story has been moving at the speed of a daytime soap opera.
by gumdrops on November 1, 2024 5:20 PM NST
Great now all those who came back for the plot will fade away waiting the 2+ months for it to start again, time will tell
by premium17 on November 1, 2024 5:34 PM NST
i just wish it was over at this point. i'm so over it.

i feel like the only reason it's been drawn out for a year is because they're working on it while it's live... maybe next time have these things finished and planned before release. quality over quantity and such.
by inkpot on November 1, 2024 5:53 PM NST
@xxsinger post # 16

The plot will wind down in phases from 1st November to 11th November. Different parts of the plot will close down one by one. To get the full details of the wind down you need to go to the FAQ page with your VPN paused.

@faellie r post #5
What you have described has literally been the neopets model from the very beginning. You are asking neopets to not be neopets.

There's lots of random from a fixed list, and sometimes people get better stuff than others. Somewhere along the way there are lots of opportunities to do clickings here clickings there clickings everywhere as there are lots of subgames. But that really is what neopets is.

That users devalue their labor and their luck has nothing to do with what neopets does.
by solsticesprite on November 1, 2024 6:34 PM NST
Hi there! You can still earn plot game related avatars during the interval. To avoid confusion, I recommend updating the last line of this article.

I’m glad we’re getting a break, it will be nice to not have to do daily BD and void essences for a while.

And yes I got a popup saying mouse clicked on the comic today.

@morganjoisle yes, that happened to me, too
by roshchodesh on November 1, 2024 9:12 PM NST
A "more relaxed pace"???

Compared to plots of the past, this plot is so relaxed in pace already, that if it gets any *more* relaxed, it will be comatose!!

But, I'm glad they at least SAY that the Go With the Flow achievement will be achievable again, cuz it really was not anywhere in the realm of fairness that it was only available if you played a perfect game the very first time you played it, that made no sense at all! If that was a bug, I don't see why they couldn't have fixed it by now already, but maybe with a break in the whole plot they can finally get it together and fix it?

... Or maybe not, cuz they said it was gonna be fixed by X before, and it wasn't. -_-

Anyway, I got that weird popup saying "mouse clicked" today too, if I click on the first panel, but not the second one, strange, and seemingly pointless? 0_o
by meer on November 1, 2024 9:45 PM NST
Thank goodness! I was starting to burn out, and was seriously going to take a break for a little bit because I was so low on steam. I'll push through for another week, then the break starts and I'll be able to recharge! ... and hopefully get my Go with the Flow Achievement sorted when it comes back!
by elizabethloreleirose on November 1, 2024 9:47 PM NST
This is already the slowest "plot" ever (it's basically dailies with background story at this point, no puzzles or anything fun like plots used to be) but I'll be glad to take a break and not miss out on any points. It's also nice we can still work on the dumb tavi quests during this time for the avatar. (or at least it sounds like we will be able to?)

Here's hoping it gets rebalanced in a good way, and made more fun.
by goldennightfox on November 1, 2024 9:57 PM NST
I feel like a break in the plot is needed because the story line right now is going absolutely nowhere . I really have been enjoying the fact we HAVE a plot but now its grindy and unpredictable with the random glitches. Really would like my tavi avatar and my void avatar that happend to not work. especially a daily player its making it difficult to want to keep doing the plot but I do because I REALLY am glad I am ontop of a plot this time after 21 years haha
by gothichickfreak818 on November 1, 2024 11:32 PM NST
also sort of wish they had the puzzle club avatar stuff as an aspect for the actual plot not just as a teaser that we got as a game and someone mentioned the other day thoose characters just POOFED after that release of ava
by gothichickfreak818 on November 1, 2024 11:34 PM NST
im glad the plot issues are being addressed. i agree that the plot is dragging on quite a bit compared to previous, more story focused and puzzle heavy plots. grinding for points every day is getting annoyingly tedious and repetitive. i remember when plot points were WAY more precious with smaller reward pools, but at least it felt like they were worth something. while i do think having so many options IS good, with how big the pool is, it feels like a majority of them will become worthless even before it ends

personally, i think the biggest issue aside from plot achievements being borked day one is the inclusion of tavis tea time and the resulting inflation of plot fetch quest items. i havent been able to complete the tea-riffic achievement due to most items being priced at 200x their worth. tnt had to have known that would happen, right? it happens EVERY time a limited time event has a fetch quest component with a limited requested item pool. at the very least, they could have asked for high quantity junk items (such as the 400+ void snowballs we all have). it baffles me that tavi is asking for items priced at 2m in exchange for 5 measly plot points
by lucar on November 2, 2024 12:22 AM NST
So..they are giving two month break for the plot that is already dragging ..? Pretty sure we'll be still doing this plot in 2030 with this pace.

Yay for fixing the Voidworks achievement
by ducky on November 2, 2024 1:18 AM NST JN Staff
Happy they're making a pause If that means, well, improvement.
I'm curious though, activities will award items and nps but not prize points, this does include the battledome plot-related battles or not...? I'd sure miss the extra codestone and np haul.
by sinthr on November 2, 2024 1:30 AM NST
Okay, I guess I won't be volunteering in the hospital for a while then? That's something at least..

But come on, I don't understand why most comments here see this as a good thing. It's clear that the people responsible for this plod have no idea how a plot is supposed to go. Taking a break? Are you insane? It should have been over by the time the holidays roll around. What we needed from the start was a faster pace, not a slower one!

"But what about Neopians who miss out on certain parts due to being busy with their lives?"
Tough potatoes. That's life, sometimes you miss out on things. Can that be annoying and frustrating? Yes. But that is life. Am I still upset I didn't get Blaze as a reward for The Lost Heirloom, just because I wasn't aware I needed to read all the things on the day they came out? Of course. But that's life.

The best plots I remember from the days of yore, like Return of Dr. Sloth and The Tale of Woe (my favourite ^^) had SO MUCH better pacing. Plot steps don't drag on indefinitely, you have a limited window to complete them before the story moves on. It's *ridiculous* in terms of story that Dr. Landelbrot has needed 80 MILLION + Void Essences to study. I don't care how fleeting those particles are, if he hasn't been able to study them yet he's not going to be able to ever.

Anyway, them taking a break means they're not going to toss Orion into my Advent Calender, right?
" We have plenty of holiday events planned for the rest of this year..."
What?! How can you expect us to AND enjoy our break AND still partake in whatever else you think of? Pick a lane!

*exhales slowly* Well.. That's.. that's my take on it. Feel free to disagree and make me see the error in my thinking. Have a nice rubbish dump day?
by apophis324 on November 2, 2024 2:18 AM NST
And by the way, isn't it insane to think that we've almost unlocked the final trophy stage already, despite the plot not even being halfway done? Did TNT even have a planning phase for this or is everyone just monkeying around at this point?
by apophis324 on November 2, 2024 2:27 AM NST
I don’t really get this plot! What’s the goal? Reading comics and collecting those purple balls?
I remember the Altador and the Moltara ones and they were completely different.
by emrah on November 2, 2024 4:16 AM NST
When they say "a more relaxed pace", I hope it means "you don't have to log in every six hours, at least three times a day, in order to get the full 200 points from the hospital". That's genuinely the only change I can really think of that would make it "more relaxed", because I'm not always available to do that.
by fen on November 2, 2024 5:28 AM NST

"i agree that the plot is dragging on quite a bit compared to previous, more story focused and puzzle heavy plots. grinding for points every day is getting annoyingly tedious and repetitive"

This, they've completely missed the point of plots. This was their most important marketing push in a decade and they really cut corners everywhere. Nobody asked for 4 new dailies of watered down reused components from previous features, all they did was slap the plot label on that despite it not even resembling one. You can tell they didn't think through the length (how many resources they realistically had prepared when they made this ambitious decision) and how plot points would be distributed, lo and behold we have earned all 60k maximum points by doing nothing more than the dailies. Hardly rewarding

by androponix on November 2, 2024 6:49 AM NST
I'm actually appreciative of the break, especially over the holidays. This plot has dragged a bit so it's great they are hopefully pausing and recalibrating. To what degree they'll succeed, we'll see. But pleased they're at least appearing to listen to feedback.
by charharr on November 2, 2024 7:19 AM NST
I’m jsut crossing my fingers that all the premium items and all the new items for the holidays AREN’T void themed. I’m so beyond over the purple and black nature of every. Single. Item.

by fluffymcgerbilpants on November 2, 2024 8:37 AM NST
The plot is moving too slowly, the whole Tavi camping thing is boring and the characters needing to rest and regrouping after minor tasks is dull. I'm hopeful t he pause will fix this.

by sakaarson on November 2, 2024 12:16 PM NST
(Mentioning because if JN is still ironing out the new layout by any chance, it might be beneficial to add some kind of indicator that this post is pinned, maybe a different colour and "pinned" or something. I checked the homepage today and didn't know there was a new post for rubbish dump day because I was under the impression this was the last post that was made, and nothing specific was keeping it at the top.)
by sakaarson on November 2, 2024 12:17 PM NST
There’s a juxtaposition between the grind of dailies and the pace of the actual story.. it’s simultaneously too much and not enough.

I agree with some kind of indication of pinned post! I also didn’t automatically scroll back. Thank you for your efforts!
by armyfromnothing on November 2, 2024 12:46 PM NST
I'ma an ongoing series/manga/novel reader and don't mind if the plot lasts another 5y, but omg a break is all I wanted. We are adults and have some life going on outside of neopets. Can't just lurk around for 1h+ and come back every 6h to improve my pet stats and check on the hospital. I'm missing so much other site features such as shopping and organizing my gallery, not to mention the BD is lagged af on my pc and on mobile it kinda sucks, so I loathe every moment of the fights knowing they are the core of plot points
My first time playing neopets was 15y ago, and then a long hiatus to come back 7y ago, another hiatus and I came back to daily-basis ever since 2020, and I missed OH so MUCH from the site plots, events, trophies, stories. Take it easy fellows, we want to keep growing old with the site
by elisa_rlyeh on November 2, 2024 12:52 PM NST
I'm fine with the pacing of the plot (although I hate that they keep adding more things to do/keep track of every day), but I'm also REALLY glad that we're getting a break. I don't want to deal with any of this over the holidays.
by neolodgeism on November 2, 2024 1:00 PM NST
@ kindervenom

OMG, I'm right there with you. Honestly, I'm seriously annoyed that the last few premium collectibles have been void themed/colored. I want actual seasonal stuff! We were robbed of fall themed stuff because of this void crap. I'll be pissed if we miss wintery/christmassy stuff too.
by gumdrops on November 2, 2024 2:07 PM NST
They really hamstrung themselves tying the Orion visions to both this plot and other Neopian events. It necessitates drawing the plot itself out over many, many months so that Orion can show up at each new annual event and not have the plot already be long over. Should have just made them their own separate things... though somehow, I get the feeling the Void plot would still have been drawn out for way too long even were that not a factor.
by flairina on November 2, 2024 4:23 PM NST
After years of living off scraps of development effort under the various old regimes, I'm excited by this thing whereby the Neopets owners work hard on the site, and try new things, and listen to player feedback. It's been a long, long time!
by grouchybeast on November 2, 2024 4:54 PM NST
Something I just thought of concerning the pause; the neopoints limit for battledome! How are we supposed to (efficiently at least) get to 50k with regular battles. There's no way I'm fighting 100 battles or more just to max out my neopoints. I hope TNT has thought about that. But, who am I kidding...
by gumdrops on November 2, 2024 4:56 PM NST
I don't care about it being harder, I just want it to not be tedious.

Like who even planned this thing out? Who thought it was a good idea to keep people entertained with a handful of click quests (several of which didn't function to begin with) over a long timespan?

They never seem to know what is going on with their own site.
by infernodragon02 on November 2, 2024 8:20 PM NST
Maybe during the pause you can fix Dacardia
by opie1kanobe1 on November 2, 2024 10:51 PM NST
Were volunteer shifts always seven hours? Mine are 7 hours as of this evening.
by morganjoisle on November 2, 2024 11:31 PM NST
@infernodragon02 Agreed. It feels like they've fallen for the "making one small task and duplicating it an insane amount of times" thing, as opposed to making more complex, varied tasks that reward users incrementally. The latter is more difficult to design, granted, but it does make things feel more rewarding and less tedious day in and day out, lol.
by sakaarson on November 2, 2024 11:41 PM NST
@morganjoisle: Maybe that has something to do with daylight saving time? Although that would mean that hospital shifts are pinned to an exact time six hours after a shift starts, rather than them just counting down a timer...

For example, if you start a shift at 10PM (22:00), that would mean the shift is programmed to end at 4AM. But due to daylight saving time, there are seven hours between 10PM and 4AM (clock is set back from 3 to 2AM).

Strange that it would work that way
by apophis324 on November 2, 2024 11:47 PM NST
On the other hand, it appears the NST clock hasn't changed... Okay, I got nothing ^^;
by apophis324 on November 2, 2024 11:49 PM NST
@apophis324 Just started a hospital shift and the timer has started at 7 hours, so I think that means they've factored that in.
by janesykes on November 3, 2024 12:37 AM NST

by apophis324 on November 3, 2024 1:11 AM NST
Neo is only one hour behind me, but normally is two hours behind. When does Daylight Savings Time end for them?
by morganjoisle on November 3, 2024 1:13 AM NST
Honestly, I'm glad. I appreciate the holiday break so I can relax and not have to be on top of the plot as well.
by fairyalex on November 3, 2024 5:00 AM NST
Hmm, seems like hospital shifts are back to six hours.. Strange!
by apophis324 on November 3, 2024 5:24 AM NST
Yeah, that's what's off about the plot: there are a lot of things to do but all of them are meaningless, mindless dailies. I'd be okay with less things to do if they were more thought-out and involved.

For example, battles in previous plots felt more involved. These ones feel like a nothing burger. If Brightvale, Neopia Central and Kiko Lake have been under attack for this long, shouldn't that have an impact on their economy? I don't mean anything too wild, but, how difficult would it be to at least change the descriptions of every shopkeeper there to reference the event?

It's true that neo is generally an assortment of meaningless, mindless dailies, but those are 1. all optional 2. the norm. Plots work on fomo, so, while no one is holding us at gunpoint, event dailies 100% feel less optional than normal ones... And you would expect an event to be different from normal gameplay.

@sakaarson: I'd like a "pinned" indicator too!

This is such a blessing, I am so burnt out on neopets right now and this will help so much

It looks like they're trying but I don't see anything about them adding actual puzzles to solve or making the plot actually more fun. Pacing is a huge issue but other complaints is the art is very sloppy and the writing is surface level stuff. No puzzles and its just not very exciting or fun...harder battles is still more tedious battledome fights. I'm not trying to complain but they said they took peoples feedback and fixed stuff but not really the things that made this a bad plot

Honestly, this is perfect. This plot is already very drawn out, tiring, and has lost all its shine.

The idea of a Neopia Council meeting, a global threat, everything was very epic, and then out of nowhere the plot focuses on 5 characters with absolutely no charisma, doing nothing or getting beaten up and this takes weeks, months... For me, it's over, it can end at any time and it won't be missed.
