Altador Cup News and Updates

  • July 11, 2011, 3:41 pm NST - Finally, the Altador Cup has come to a close, and I, Marie, have the privilege of providing you with the results of the past two days. :D

Working our way up from the very bottom, in the consolation bracket, Team Altador was able to avoid last place, unlike Team Moltara. Though Moltara started off with an early lead against their opponents in the first two days of their finals (as the bottom two teams face off against each other for 4 days and do not switch opponents), Team Altador was able to fight back and prevail when they needed to the most.

On to the 4th tier! Faerieland was able to win against Kiko Lake to take 15th place, the same place they got last year. This meant that the Kikos settled snugly into 16th. Lost Desert faced off against Mystery Island and won, allowing them to take 13th place. Despite a very rocky beginning for the previous champs, dropping them below 15th place, they were able to make a small comeback and prevail as the champions of Bracket 4.

Team Brightvale was not able to pull a win against Team Haunted Woods and fell a place below where they began at the beginning of the finals. Haunted Woods laid claim to 11th place after their victory. Shenkuu and Roo Island squared off with the Jesters rising victoriously into 9th place and top of the tier, and Shenkuu just below - at 10th place.

Terror Mountain had a great beginning to the cup but slowly fell during the second round robin. Fortunately, they were able to stay in the second tier. However, despite their valiant efforts, they could not beat Darigan Citadel to claim 7th place and remained at 8th. Tyrannia may have fallen to the Knights, but they still finished higher than they ever have before at a commendable 6th place. Meridell claimed 5th place (Someone had to do it even if Maraqua wasn't going to! ;D) after being kicked out of the first tier by a slim margin.

Ah, finally! The top tier, the tier that the winner of the sixth annual Altador Cup resides in! Team Maraqua was finally able to make it into the top tier this year but they were still unable to win against Kreludor and in turn, lay their hands on a trophy. They finished in fourth place, and Kreludor finished in third. Will next year finally be Maraqua's?

The championship round! Previous winners, Krawk Island faced off against the much underrated Team Virtupets for the coveted Altador Cup. Krawk Island was not predicted to be a huge force, but they sure proved everyone wrong and nearly became the first team to win two titles. Virtupets was a team that everyone was unsure about due to their small size, which they evidently worked to their advantage. The team from outer space, one that has never even seen first tier before, was able to win this year's Altador Cup!

Huge kudos and congrats to Team Virtupets, they definitely earned it, pulling off impressive victories against each and every team all throughout the Cup! They were also the only team to not have a single loss in one game - Make Some Noise, so that is quite an achievement as well! May the Winners' Curse befall them next year! I mean... may the curse avoid them! ;D Thanks for a great Altador Cup everyone, and thanks for sticking with JN Coverage during the Tourney. Hope to see you again next year! :)
  • July 11, 2011, 2:14 pm NST - Congratulations team Virtupets! The Altador Cup VI results are in and team Virtupets came in first, while team Krawk Island and Kreludor came in 2nd and 3rd respectively. See the final result brackets here.

  • July 8, 2011, 6:32 am NST - There's no time to waste! To the results of the first round!

In the consolation bracket Moltara and Altador fight over not coming in last place! It seems as though Team Moltara has the upper hand as Team Altador sadly struggles with anything to deal with a Yooyu!

In the 4th bracket, Team Lost Desert fights away the faeries to be able to face off with Team Mystery Island who were able to hold their ground against Team Kiko Lake.

In the 3rd bracket Team Shenkuu was able to subdue Team Haunted woods from taking away a victory from them. As they do that though Team Brightvale falls to Team Roo Island.

In the 2nd bracket, Team Meridell shows that they will continue to fight in the finals! They were able to hold their own against the dark horse of the cup, Team Terror Mountain. The surprising result is that of Team Tyrannia's victory of Team Darigan Citadel, who showed promise this year to be back in the top bracket once again, but sadly fell just short of it.

    Finally, to the Champion Bracket.

As a shock to many, Team Krawk Island was able to defeat the favorites to win the cup, Team Kreludor. This means that the pirates have a shot at being the first to win the gold twice. Can they do it, or will Team Virtupets snatch that chance from them? Team Maraqua wasn't able to bring down Team Virtupets, and now must fight for third against Team Kreludor.

History is about to be made, one way or another.
  • July 5, 2011, 2:16 pm NST - You can now use the points you earned in the TNT Staff Tournament to redeem prizes in the staff tournament prize shop.

Altador Cup: The AC standings have been updated. The finals start tomorrow morning. There may be a delay due to site maintenance (see below).

    New Features, 07/05/2011
MAINTENANCE NOTICE! - Doctor Sloth's Grundo minions will be taking down the site for some much needed maintenance to the Grundo Reeducation Center. As the Grundos have a whole list of tasks to do, they have estimated the maintenance to be somewhere between 10 PM NST to 2 AM NST tonight. If the site goes down during that time, you know you can blame it on Virtupets Space Station! Hopefully we shall return promptly, and we apologize for the inconvenience because Sloth certainly won't!
  • July 5, 2011, 11:37 am NST - After a *cough* small delay *cough*, the results of the final round robin matches are now in!

The main focus of yesterday's matches was around the top of the second bracket and the bottom of the first. Complete losses by Maraqua or Krawk Island might have dropped them down into the second bracket, but that wasn't on the cards. It was a full sweep for Maraqua against Roo Island, and Krawk Island almost performed as well against the Lost Desert - though team LD did manage to claw back a Slushie Slinger win.

With this state of affairs, Meridell and the Darigan Citadel are trapped in the second bracket despite today's performance. Meridell managed a near sweep against Brightvale, only conceeding a draw in Shootout Showdown. Darigan meanwhile faltered against Kiko Lake, drawing in Yooyuball but taking all of the side games.

It was business as usual for most of the other competitors in the Cup, but the results could still give us hints about what's to come in the finals. Virtupets and Kreludor managed similar results against Shenkuu and Terror Mountain, both conceeding only a Shootout Showdown win.

Meanwhile the Haunted Woods had a Slushie Slinger upset from Moltara, while taking all the remaining games. Tyrannia managed to deprive Altador of a Slushie Slinger win, forcing a draw instead while taking all three remaining games.

Finally, Mystery Island's match against Faerieland ended in MI's favour. Wins in three games went their way, while Faerieland fought back with a Make Some Noise draw.

And so the round robin is over and the finals are set. Good luck to all teams in the remaining matches!
  • July 4, 2011, 1:55 am NST - The final day of the round robin is now upon us, but here are the results from yesterday.

It was a late burst of energy from Maraqua that currently sees them sitting in third, now looking to be more or less locked in the top bracket with a full sweep against Shenkuu yesterday. With Maraqua's finals ability being notorious, are they now a serious contender for the cup?

The second sweep of the day came from the Darigan Citadel against Moltara, but it proved to be too little too late as they currently sit in the second bracket. Elsewhere, Meridell and Virtupets clashed in a mixed match. A draw in Yooyuball set the tone for the day, and while Virtupets took Make Some Noise, wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown gave Meridell the overall win.

Kreludor meanwhile faced Faerieland, and what should have been a fairly easy match came with minor difficulties as Faerieland were able to take the Shootout Showdown win away from Kreludor. Krawk Island, currently in 4th, managed an overall win against the Haunted Woods with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown. The Haunted Woods managed to fight back though, taking wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Brightvale managed to focus their energies into Yooyuball yesterday, forcing Tyrannia into a draw. However, the prehistoric team took wins in all three side game, giving them the overall win for the day. Elsewhere it was business as usual for Altador even at this late stage - a win in Slushie Slinger while they conceeded all other games to Kiko Lake.

Roo Island managed a surprising last minute show of strength against Terror Mountain, taking a win in Yooyuball. Terror Mountain however took all three side games, making it a draw for the day. Finally, Mystery Island took on the Lost Desert and came out on top. It was a near sweep, with the Lost Desert only managing to fight back with a Slushie Slinger win.

With only one more day of round robin play, make the most of it as tomorrow will be a break day!
  • July 3, 2011, 12:54 am NST - Two more days left in the round robin, folks! The brackets are still as close as ever, and these last few days will be CRUCIAL. Now, onto today's coverage with Marie!

There were several VERY evenly matched face-offs today. Team Shenkuu was able to prevail against Mystery Island today by winning Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise after Yooyuball came to a draw. Mystery Island was able to win Shootout Showdown. Also, Meridell faced Krawk Island on the field today, which ended in the Knights' favor. The Pirates were not able to obtain a single win because Meridell won both Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger and the other two games ended in a draw. Team Meridell faces Virtupets today as they try to make their way into the first tier again.

Maraqua supporters will be rejoicing today as they slide into 4th place, and in turn, first tier. Their near sweep of Haunted Woods (winning all games except Slushie Slinger - which they lost) earned them that coveted spot. Can they hold onto it as they face a headstrong team of Shenkuu's Ninjas (who have just been kicked out of third tier)?

More news of first tier teams: Team Virtupets and Team Kreludor have pretty much clinched their spots. Virtupets won decisively against Darigan Citadel today, taking Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, losing Shootout Showdown, and drawing in Slushie Slinger. Team Kreludor showed no mercy when facing Roo Island, taking every win possible and drawing only in Shootout Showdown.

Funnily enough, Roo Island and Kreludor are the two teams Terror Mountain have left to face. They may be in big trouble, facing Roo Island today (meaning they'll face Kreludor tomorrow) because they're on the very brink of dropping out of Tier 2. Their results today against Lost Desert were less than desirable. Losing Yooyuball and then Slushie Slinger, at least their good performance in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown came through with wins in their favor.

Tyrannia was able to sweep Team Moltara. This was the only sweep of the day. That is not to say there weren't some very close sweeps. Bravo to Team Brightvale for doing very well against the Kikos. The bright and wise was able to snag every game except Make Some Noise which, unfortunately for them, they lost.

The underdogs of Faerieland and Altador met in a showdown today with the Faeries showing that wings just may be what you need to succeed. Their wings and faerie dust brought them the Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown win as Altador claimed Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise as consolation prizes.

An exciting match today to watch out for is definitely the face-off of Virtupets and Meridell. If Meridell play their cards right, they just may be back in the running for first tier (or rather, be able to continue their fight another day). The last two days look very promising, and it's guaranteed to be filled results displaying efforts of teams desperate to get into their desired tier. You won't want to miss out, so don't forget come back tomorrow as Herdy delves into the coverage of the second last day! :D
  • July 2, 2011, 9:30 am NST - Link here with the latest on today's results.

Let's start today with the only sweep. It was the match up of Shenkuu and Moltara, with Shenkuu taking down the steam punks. That sweep put Moltara back into last place and allowing Altador to get out of it.

Speaking of Altador, yesterday they faced off against Terror Mountain and came out with the usual results. Terror Mountain won all the games except for Slushie Slinger. The match up of Faerieland and Maraqua showed the same results. The Faeries avoiding a sweep with Slushie Slinger.

Lost Desert faced off against Virtupets and were outmatched by the space beings. Virtupets was able to clutch victory in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Lost Desert recovered from the losses and won Shootout Showdown. The two teams fought long and hard but neither of the teams could win Slushie Slinger, so it ended in a tie.

Haunted Woods faced off against Brightvale yesterday, and the match up resulted in a tie all around. While Brightvale won all the side games, Team Haunted Woods claimed victory with their win in Yooyuball.

Krawk Island decided to blunder some wins from Roo Island yesterday. The pirates won in Yooyuball, and Slushie Slinger. They robbed Roo Island of any wins at all by drawing with them in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Team Kiko Lake narrowly missed a sweep at the hands of Team Meridell, by only winning Make Some Noise. Many are puzzled from that burst of energy the kikos had earlier in the round, and where it went off to. Some speculate that Kiko Lake will do well in next years cup.

Team Mystery Island couldn't stop Kreludor from winning it all against them except for Shootout Showdown. These wins helped keep Kreludor in first place against the other top teams. Only question now is, how long can they keep it?

In our final match up we see Team Tyrannia and Team Darigan Citadel. Many would have speculated that Tyrannia would have won the match, but they have lost steam as the tournament continued on. The Citadel snatched away victory from the prehistoric team in the form of Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. Tyrannia, however, was able to win in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Keep your eye today for some interesting results as top bracket teams face each other, and a rather large rivalry faces off once again.
  • July 1, 2011, 2:33 am NST - As we draw ever closer to the end of the round robin, there's still a lot to play for in the Cup!

After yesterday's drop down to the second bracket, Meridell were back on fighting form today with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown against the Lost Desert. Although LD managed wins in the remaining two games, it wasn't enough to stop Meridell going back up into the first bracket. This was partly due to the Darigan Citadel's performance against Roo Island. Darigan drew Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown while they took outright wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. This illustrates just how close things are even at this late stage in the game.

The only sweep of the day went to Tyrannia against Faerieland, who both continue to plod along in their respective brackets. Despite Maraqua's valiant wins lately, there's been little change in the standings, just like Tyrannia - and with Maraqua's match against Virtupets today, there was no exception. Maraqua echoed Meridell's game by taking Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown while Virtupets took Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. It seems like we'll need to see something impressive from Maraqua if they want to climb any more.

After the Haunted Woods's brief promotion to the second bracket and then fall downwards, it's been a depressing story that continued today against Shenkuu. Shenkuu took Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger and a draw in Shootout Showdown, while the Haunted Woods managed a single Make Some Noise win.

It was standard news in the Krawk Island-Altador match, with Krawk Island managing a near sweep. Once again, Altador managed to avoid this by taking a win in Slushie Slinger. It was a similar result between Mystery Island and Moltara, with Mystery Island taking all wins except Slushie Slinger.

Brightvale meanwhile managed a small upset against Terror Mountain with wins in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. Terror Mountain took the remaining two games, but it wasn't enough to give them the overall win for the day.

Finally, Kreludor's performance against Kiko Lake today propelled them back into the top position in the standings. It was a near sweep, with Kiko Lake managing to take the Shootout Showdown win away from them.

Make sure to check back tomorrow for more updates!
  • June 30, 2011, 1:22 am NST - Welcome to another day of results - with so little time until the end of the round robin, things are really getting exciting on the pitch!

Yesterday saw a major change to the top bracket, with Meridell falling out and being replaced by the Darigan Citadel. It was the match between the two that decided the placing, and Darigan came out on top with wins in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Meridell fought back with draws in the remaining two games, but it was too little too late. It's not all over for Meridell though, there's still enough time for them to get back into the top bracket if they work hard.

Meanwhile Virtupets is riding high at the top of the standing with a win over Faerieland. They took Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise, but Faerieland managed a Shootout Showdown win to avoid a sweep.

Kreludor meanwhile faced difficulties from the other team in the top bracket, Krawk Island. It was an overall draw for the day, with Krawk Island taking Yooyuball and Kreludor taking the side games, but overall Kreludor is still ranked higher.

Outside of the top bracket, the Haunted Woods continued their downwards trend as they lost against Tyrannia. There was a draw in Yooyuball, but Tyrannia took all of the side games. Terror Mountain meanwhile faced Maraqua, and it was Maraqua's day. They took Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown wins, while Terror Mountain took the remaining two games.

Elsewhere, Roo Island managed a near sweep against Moltara, which was narrowly avoided by a draw in Slushie Slinger. A similar story arose in the Mystery Island-Altador game, with Altador taking the Slushie Slinger win (as ever) and Mystery Island taking the remaining games.

Brightvale and the Lost Desert faced off evenly yesterday. Brightvale took the Yooyuball win while the Lost Desert took all three side games, ending in an overall draw. Finally, Shenkuu managed a near sweep against Kiko Lake, with the Lakers only just managing to claw back a Shootout Showdown win.

That's all for today, folks! Make sure to check back tomorrow!
