News and Updates

  • June 18, 2009, 6:38 am NST - And so the second round robin begins! There are some interesting results today, and a few of them seem to suggest that some teams are flagging as we move into the latter half of the cup.

Only two sweeps happened today, and unsurprisingly, one was against Faerieland. This time it was Kreludor that defeated them. The other sweep was the Lost Desert, they achieved a complete victory over the Meridell team.

Krawk Island, the favourites at the start of the cup, encountered a minor hiccup in the form of Roo Island. The pirates took the win in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. Roo Island managed to force a draw in Shootout Showdown.

The Haunted Woods and Maraqua clashed, ending in some mixed results. The Haunted Woods took the Make Some Noise win, while the two teams drew in Slushie Slinger. It was the Maraquans who emerged victorious though, by taking wins in both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown.

In a similar style to the Krawk Island/Roo Island match, the Darigan Citadel team also encountered a small problem against Kiko Lake. The Citadel's team, which has been surprisingly strong this year after their fall in the standings during the ACIII, took the win in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. Kiko Lake, just like Roo Island, managed to force a draw in Shootout Showdown.

Shenkuu also faced problems in today's results. The team has previously seen a great boost in their scoring during the second round, but today the Virtupets team (the success story of this cup so far) managed to claim some wins. The Virtupets team took wins in all of the side games, but Shenkuu retained some of their pride by claiming the Yooyuball win.

Mystery Island faced Altador, and the island natives took the overall win for the day. They managed victories in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown. The Altadorian hosts took the win in Slushie Slinger though, avoiding a full sweep.

Finally, Terror Mountain and Tyrannia faced each other for the final time in the round robin. These two teams have placed close to each other in previous teams, and this time Tyrannia emerged victorious. They took wins in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. Terror Mountain managed to keep the win in Shootout Showdown, which has so far been their strong point in this cup.

Make sure to check back tomorrow for more results!
  • June 17, 2009, 6:16 am NST - Round one is complete! After 15 days of competition, every team has played every other team! We are halfway through the double round robin matches!

Yesterday ended with lots of sweeps. Kiko Lake triumphed over Faerieland, and Kreludor soundly defeated Terror Mountain. Shenkuu was victorious in every game against Altador, and Darigan Citadel swept the Haunted Woods. Finally, Mystery Island won decisively against Meridell.

And now for the other three matches. Krawk Island split wins with Tyrannia. The pirate team won Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while the Tyrannians rallied
with a win in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Team Virtupets defeated Team Lost Desert in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, while the Lost Desert won the Yooyuball match. The Slushie Slinger match was too close to call, so both teams received the points for a draw.

Roo Island made a slight comeback yesterday, defeating Maraqua in the three side games. The Maraquan yooyuballers were too much for the Roo Island team, however, and the Maraquans ended the day with a single win in Yooyuball.

Well, that's it for today. Don't forget to check out our Predicted Scores & Standings Page. With the double round robin halfway over, we're soon going to see teams start to drop out of the running for the finals! But don't worry, every team is still in the running right now :). Good luck to everyone today!
  • June 16, 2009, 6:47 am NST - Day 14's results are in, and it's yet another large batch of sweeps!

The Haunted Woods was able to win over Altador, Shenkuu over Faerieland, and Krawk Island over Meridell. Two more surprising sweeps also happened today. Virtupets was able to completely beat Terror Mountain, which is interesting as previously these two teams have been really shaking up the rankings in the side games, and because Terror Mountain has been the stronger team in previous cups. Another surprise was Roo Island's victory over Kiko Lake. After their success in the standings early in the cup, Kiko Lake really seems to have fallen.

Outside of the sweeps, surprise front runners Kreludor came up against difficulties in their match with Tyrannia. The Tyrannian squad took the win in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, while Kreludor took the win in Yooyuball. In Shootout Showdown, there was a draw between the two.

Maraqua and Mystery Island clashed yesterday, and the results swung in favour of Mystery Island. There was a draw in both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, but Mystery Island managed a win in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Finally, we have the match between the Darigan Citadel and the Lost Desert. It was a very mixed bag, with scores all over the place. The Lost Desert won in Slushie Slinger, while the Citadel won in Shootout Showdown. The results of the Make Some Noise (the Lost Desert's traditional strong point) and Yooyuball matches ended in draws.

Make sure to stay tuned for Day 15's results tomorrow, as they will mark the half way point in the round robin. From here on out, teams should begin to really carve out their seedings for the final round!
  • June 15, 2009, 12:25 am NST - Another set of results has come in as we near the halfway point of the preliminary round.

As always, we begin with the sweeps. Our bottom two teams, Faerieland and Altador both lost decisively yesterday to their opponents, Maraqua and Darigan Citadel. Team Krawk Island and Team Shenkuu followed the example of the Darigans and Maraquans, soundly defeating their opponents, Team Terror Mountain and Team Kiko Lake.
As for the non-sweeps, Team Haunted Woods and Team Virtupets split victories yesterday. The Haunted Woods triumphed in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, while Virtupets rallied with a win in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Meridell and Roo Island were quite evenly matched yesterday, with a draw in three of the four games, Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. The only decided game was Shootout Showdown, which Meridell won.

The Tyrannians defeated Mystery Island in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, while Mystery Island was victorious in Shootout Showdown. The Yooyuball match was the second of the day to end in a draw.

The third draw on the Yooyuball field was between Kreludor and the Lost Desert. These two teams also drew in Make Some Noise. The Slushie Slinger winner was Kreludor, and the Shootout Showdown winner was the Lost Desert.

Well, that's another day's results. This really looks like it could be a very close Cup. Good luck to everyone in the final match of the first two weeks!
  • June 14, 2009, 9:14 am NST - The results of the Altador Cup's 12th day are in!

As you can imagine on a day when quite a few high ranking teams were playing low ranking teams, there were a reasonable amount of sweeps. The Lost Desert emerged victorious over Maraqua, Tyrannia over Altador, Kreludor over Roo Island, and finally Virtupets over Faerieland.

Krawk Island faced Mystery Island today, and were able to take wins on all of the side games. The Mystery Island team was able to claw back some points in Yooyuball though, by forcing Krawk Island into a draw.

Meanwhile, the Haunted Woods took on the returning Kiko Lake team. The Haunted Woods proved to be the stronger team, taking the win in all of the games bar Slushie Slinger. There, in a similar vein to the Mystery Island/Krawk Island game, Kiko Lake was able to force a draw.

The Darigan Citadel and the Shenkuu team clashed in an interesting set of matches. Darigan took the win in Yooyuball, while Shenkuu took the win in Slushie Slinger. Both teams settled for a draw in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, giving Team Darigan Citadel the overall win due to the higher weighting of Yooyuball.

Finally, Meridell and Terror Mountain faced each other. The Terror Mountain team that seemed surprisingly strong at certain points this year was beaten by Meridell in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Shootout Showdown. In the Make Some Noise match, Terror Mountain forced Meridell to settle for a draw, avoiding a full sweep.

That's another day over with, and we're moving ever closer to the end of the first round robin, and the half way mark of the Altador Cup. Make sure to come back tomorrow for more updates!
  • June 13, 2009, 1:28 am NST - As always, we have your results from yesterday's matches!

Let us begin with the sweeps. As usual, Faerieland was the object of a sweep, this time by Krawk Island. It was joined by Maraqua, who suffered a complete defeat at the hands of Darigan Citadel.

As for the rest of the matches, we begin with the most entertaining results. In the Kreludor/Shenkuu match, there were three draws. The teams were so closely matched in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Shootout Showdown that a winner could not be decided. In Make Some Noise, however, the Kreludans managed to pull slightly ahead of their opponents for a single win.

In the next match, the Haunted Woods defeated the Meridellians in Slushie Slinger
and Shootout Showdown, while Team Meridell held their own in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, making both events too close to call and earning each team the points for a draw.

Team Kiko Lake also edged out their opponents, Team Virtupets in the day's results. The lake-dwellers were triumphant in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. The Virtupets team, however, rallied for a win in this year's add-on, Shootout Showdown.

Team Terror Mountain left the day without a single loss against the Altador team. They won Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown; however, in Slushie Slinger, the Altadorians conceded only a draw.

Team Lost Desert split wins with the Tyrannians yesterday. The desert team won the Yooyuball match as well as Shootout Showdown, while Team Tyrannia took victories in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Last, but not least, Team Roo Island defeated Team Mystery Island in Slushie Slinger. In Shootout Showdown, Mystery Island won the day, and in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, no clear winner was decided.

It seems today was a day of draws. Perhaps it is a sign that this year's teams are evenly matched? We'll have to wait and see. There is still plenty of time left in the Cup, and every team still has the opportunity to make it to the finals, even the Faeries. Good luck today!
  • June 12, 2009, 4:34 am NST - We're a third of the way through the round robin now, so here are the results from day 10 of the cup!

There's only one sweep to report on today - Meridell winning against Faerieland. Hardly an unexpected result there, hopefully Faerieland can rally themselves and eventually get one win in the competition.

Elsewhere, it was a day of minor upsets for the current high ranking teams. Krawk Island almost managed a sweep against the Lost Desert, winning all three of the side games. However, the Lost Desert was able to take the win in Yooyuball.

Kreludor met with the Haunted Woods, and although the Kreludor team won in both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, they settled for a draw in both Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Surprise front runners, the Darigan Citadel, also faced difficulties in their match against the Virtupets team. The Citadel won in both Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, but Virtupets was able to even the scoreboard with a win in both Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. Team Virtupets seems unbeatable at the new game, can anyone stop them in their tracks?

Further down the standings table, Tyrannia met with Roo Island. The fallen champions from Roo Island were able to take a win in both Shootout Showdown and Make Somes Noise, and a draw in Yooyuball. Tyrannia stayed true to their strengths though, and took a win in Slushie Slinger.

Terror Mountain and Mystery Island also clashed today, with Terror Mountain winning in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, and accepting a draw in Slushie Slinger. Mystery Island won in Yooyuball, but the Terror Mountain team certainly showed their mastery of the side games.

Kiko Lake met with Altador, and the returning Kiko Lake team took the overall win, with victories in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Shootout Showdown. The Make Some Noise match however ended in a draw.

It was a similar, but slightly different story in the Shenkuu/Maraqua match. Shenkuu got the upper hand, with wins in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown. Maraqua was able to claw back some points with a draw in Slushie Slinger.

So that's another day over with, let's see what surprises await tomorrow!
  • June 11, 2009, 6:23 am NST - The ninth day of the Altador Cup IV is over, and the results are in!

As usual, we first have some sweeps: Shenkuu completely swept the usually high-powered team, the Haunted Woods yesterday. Team Lost Desert also swept Team Kiko Lake, and, as usual, Faerieland and Altador were swept by their opponents, Darigan Citadel and Krawk Island.

And now for the non-sweeps. Team Roo Island split victories with Team Virtupets yesterday. The Rooligans triumphed in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, while the Virtupets team won the day's matches in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Similarly, Team Terror Mountain also split victories with their opponents, the Maraquans. The Terror Mountain team won Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, while Team Maraqua won in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger.

In the Kreludor vs. Mystery Island match, the results were all over the board. The Kreludans won Slushie Slinger and Shooutout Showdown, while the Mystery Island team tied them in Make Some Noise. The Yooyuball match was so close that the referee could not call a winner, and both teams received a draw.

The Tyrannia vs. Meridell match had similar results. The Tyrannians defeated the Meridellians in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, while the Meridellians rallied with a win in Slushie Slinger. The Yooyuball match was again too close to call, and both teams received a draw.

This year's Cup is turning out to be quite interesting. To see JN's predicted top teams, visit our Predicted Scores & Standings page. The predictions based on weighted points and win scores agree only on the top five teams, so anything's possible. Good luck to all teams today!
  • June 10, 2009, 6:38 am NST - The results from day 8 of the Altador Cup are in, and they are perhaps the most mixed bag we've had yet. Very few sweeps to report on today, only the Haunted Woods and Darigan Citadel were able to claim complete victories against their opponents, Faerieland and Roo Island.

One of today's major success stories was Virtupets. We seem to be seeing it a lot so far, but the team from the Space Station really is pulling out all of the stops to win in all three side games. Their opponents, Mystery Island, were able to take the victory in Yooyuball though to avoid a full sweep. When asked about her team's surprising results this year, Virtupets team Captain Keetra Deile said, "I really don't know why everyone's so shocked. We have state of the art training equipment onboard the Space Station. The only surprise is that it's taken us four years to get to this level."

The Virtupets success was mirrored exactly by Team Tyrannia in their match against Maraqua. The plucky Tyrannian squad took the win in all of the side games, but the Maraquans clawed back a win in Yooyuball.

Kiko Lake was able to thwart Terror Mountain's dominance over Shootout Showdown today, by forcing them into a draw in both that and Make Some Noise. They were also able to take the win in Yooyuball, though the Terror Mountain squad took the win in Slushie Slinger.

The Lost Desert team came back on form today in their match against Shenkuu. They were able to take a win in both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. The Shenkuu squad proved too much for the desert team though, and both Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown only ended in a draw.

Elsewhere, Meridell faced Altador, and though Meridell took the win in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown, the Altador team was able to produce a shock draw in Slushie Slinger.

Finally, two of the highest ranking teams so far locked horns, Krawk Island and Kreludor. Unsurprisingly, it was a hard fought contest that ended in a draw in both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. The crafty Krawk Island pirates were able to overcome their opposition though, and took the win in both Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Another day of fast-paced action with some interesting matches awaits us today, make sure to check back tomorrow for the results!
  • June 9, 2009, 6:29 am NST - It's been seven days, and this is turning out to be a very interesting Cup.

First things first. Yesterday, Roo Island, not surprisingly, swept their opponents, Team Faerieland. Shenkuu and Krawk Island also swept their opponents, Mystery Island and Kiko Lake.

Now to the other results. Team Lost Desert was triumphant in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. However, Team Altador, in a surprising turn of events, defeated Team Lost Desert in Shootout Showdown.

Team Haunted Woods also defeated their opponents, Terror Mountain, in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise, while Terror Mountain rallied with a win in Shootout Showdown. Evidently the top teams are more focused on the original three games, leaving room for their opponents to snatch a win in Shootout Showdown.

The Kreludans defeated the Maraquans in both Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown. In Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, the game was too close to call and ended in a draw.

Darigan Citadel won Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while the Tyrannians rallied with a win in Slushie Slinger. In Make Some Noise, the teams received a draw.

In the final match of the day, Team Meridell defeated Team Virtupets in both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. Virtupets defeated the Meridellians in Shootout Showdown, and again, the teams received a draw in Make Some Noise.

This is certainly shaping up to be one interesting Altador Cup. Many people's predictions are turning out to be completely wrong, and low-ranked teams are being able to hold their own against the top teams. Stay tuned for tomorrow's results, and good luck to everyone in the matches today!
