The previous Altador Cups have been no faerie tale for Team Faerieland. Placing poorly almost every year, many rival teams joke that the players have their heads in the clouds. However, during the offseason the Team was restructured with Left Forward Elbin Kroe replaced by Whimsi Dia. The very first Vandagyre to ever compete in the Neopian Cup, Whimsi is known for her consistency on the field. With this new addition to the team, could this finally be the year the Faerieland Fighters earn their wings?

Although their fans cheered loud enough to wake the dead, Team Haunted Woods gave an abysmal performance last year that landed them in 17th place. Some say that the players kept fixating on their previous defeats, leaving the team a ghost of its former self. During the offseason, the team began a more rigorous training schedule, but they aren't out of the woods yet! Will the past mistakes of Team Haunted Woods come back to haunt them once more, or will they rise above the competition?

Team Kiko Lake shattered records last year becoming the first team ever to win a fourth Altador Cup! In the wake of a Kiko Lake victory, the team celebrated their historic win with a blowout on the lake catered by Kiko Lake treats. Despite the extravagant celebration, and the fact they have taken home more Altador Cups than any other team, Team Captain "Poke" Cellars insists that they need just a few more donations so they can go to the Altador Cup this year...

After some stellar performances the last few years, fans are speculating that Kreludor has a real chance at bringing home the Altador Cup this year. Team Captain Derlyn Fonnet seems to agree, proclaiming that "you must be living on another planet if you don't think Kreludor will see a podium finish this year!" The Lost Desert was hung out to dry by the competition last year, finishing in 11th place. Right Froward Derbu Azar claimed that Team Kiko Lake player Meela Kitah kicked sand in her face so that his teammate could score a winning goal during one of their games. However, Meela retorted "Kick? I don't even have feed!"" Will team Lost Desert be able to weather the shifting sands of the Altador Cup this year? Or will their thirst for victory remain unquenched?

Turning of the Tide?

Team Maraqua found themselves in hot water during Altador Cup XV and ended up placing 9th. After last year's lacklustre performance, some critics are speculating that the Maraquan team is all washed up. However, "that's all water under the bridge" according to Team Captain Elon "The Black Hole" Hughlis, who reports the team has been utilizing a new type of subaquatic strength training wearing weighted vests to improve their endurance and coordination. Will this new underwater training regiment help them gain an advantage this year? Or will they flounder like fish out of water?

Team Meridell gave it their all during last year's Altador Cup, finishing just below reigning champions Kiko Lake! We do know that the King of Meridell has promised to give his team the "royal treatment" if they manage to place above Team Brightvale again!

Team Roo Island tumbled down the charts last year falling from 9th to 16th place between the past two Altador Cups. Could the team's disappointing placement have something to do with the fact King Roo himself planned their strategies? Team Captain Lilo Blumario certainly thinks so claiming "I roo the day I let the King come up with our playbook! This isn't Roodoku after all..." Critics are already saying the team will need more than puns if they intend to be serious contenders this year, will the Rooligans be up to the task?

Fans have been speculating that Larcy Phu's rocky relationship with team captain Mirsha Grelinek has further deteriorated during the offseason, but Phu insists they are "making a mountain out of a symolhill." During last year's Press Tour, Captain Prytariel voiced her concerns that the team's overconfidence following their victory in Year 21 could snowball into complacency. Her fears were confirmed as Team Terror Mountain dropped from 1st to 10th place between the previous two Altador Cups and found themselves left out in the cold when it came to the winner's podium last year. Will Team Terror Mountain be able to catch their footing and put the chill on their competition this Altador Cup? Or will they be frozen out of the winner's circle once more?

Team Tyrannia's streak of bad luck continued last year as they once again finished in 13th place. Many were quick to blame Goalkeeper Mor Gollog for being too slow to stop all the Yooyuballs that slipped past him, but Team Captain Loryche set the story straight telling fans to "make no bones about it. The entire team let Tyrannian down." Will the Prehistoric Squad be able to pull above 13th place this year? Or is history doomed to repeat itself?

The star-crossed Virtupets team was brought back down to Earth last year after they dropped from 2nd all the way down to 12th place between the last two Altador Cups. But don't count them out just yet! According to team captain Keetra Deile, the team has been doing extensive zero gravity training to hone their agility and reflexes. Sounds like the off season has given Team Virtupets some much needed breathing space!
