2019 Altador Cup Tournament

Press Tour

Below is an archive of the 2019 Press Tour blurbs for each returning team. Thank you to altadorheadcanons on Tumblr for sharing their archive with us!

Hitting Rock Bottom

Team Altador ended AC XIII at the very bottom of the rankings, much to the chagrin of the fans of the team. Soon after the tournament ended, angry fans took to the streets to express their displeasure with the management's decision to keep captain Foltaggio at the helm of affairs. However, not much has come out of it and the Mynci continues to lead. On being questioned about this, Foltaggio gave us a non-committal 'No comments' reply.

Surprises in Store

Team Brightvale had an uninspired show in AC XIII much like their performance in AC XII. There is buzz that the players are frustrated with the captain's lackadaisical attitude and there is an all-round gloomy atmosphere within the camp. However, presenting a contrasting account, a senior player, on conditions of anonymity, has revealed that team Brightvale is gearing up for a big surprise that will make the fans very happy. The captain of the team remained unavailable for comment.

Bronze or Better

Darigan Citadel, led by Layton Vickles, is a team on fire! The electric energy around the team is palpable. It has been reported that the team is practicing doubly hard to ensure a better ranking in the latest edition of the Altador Cup. It is believed that they are eyeing the bronze medal at least, if not better. All we can say here is good luck, Team DC!

By Fair Means or Foul

Despite their impressive performance in AC XIII, Team Faerieland has spent the off-season far away from any kind of celebrations. The reason behind the somber mood of the team is the foul-play allegation levelled against it. While captain Worrill refused to comment on the matter, it is believed that Elbin Croe[sic] and Ciona Broan are being questioned in this regard.

The Unflurried

Team Haunted Woods ended its quest for the coveted cup in AC XIII ranked even worse than its attempt in AC XII, where they were placed 15th. Let that sink in. The team captain, however, seems unperturbed and guarantees to please us all this year.

Focused on the Goal

If there is one team that is desperate to put the debacle of AC XIII behind them, it would certainly have to be Kiko Lake. The team members have refrained from making any comments to the press this season. It appears that they are focused solely on improving their performance. Considering the talent that these multiple-time podium finishers possess, it shouldn't be a tall order. We wish them good fortune in AC XIV.

Making Peace with the Truth

As a team, Krawk Island seems to be stuck with its mid-level finishes. Old, loyal fans of the team have made their peace with this fact. "Let's face some truths: AC III & IV are a thing of the past," said a fan, alluding to the team's formidable show during those years, earning it the gold and silver finishes. Number 7 seems to be our favourite now, quipped another fan.

Bring in the Crazy

A team that has left a bitter aftertaste in the mouths of its supporters is certainly Team Kreludor. Captain Derlyn Fonnet seems upbeat and is visibly unaffected by her team's slip in ranks. She has even jokingly dubbed her team as the 'Lunatics' that can pull off anything on a good day. Was this foreshadowing? We definitely expect something crazy this season.

Not a Lost Cause

Team Lost Desert was the last team to confirm its participation in AC XIV and considering what they have been through this year, it's not hard to see why. With the city having to put itself together again after the military coup, it was rumoured that all able-bodied Neopets would be roped in for voluntary service. We are happy to note that this hasn't been the case.

Up, Up and Away

It isn't clear yet if Maraquan captain, Elon Hughlis, is still leading the team or is even a part of it. The former 'clutch-performer' was last seen enjoying a skiing holiday with his family up on Terror Mountain. The team management is tight-lipped about the development. 'We are only focusing on a podium finish this year,' is all that they are willing to confirm.

Ready for Anything

Team Meridell has consistently found a way to exceed expectations. The team has jumped 6 positions in the last 3 years, ending AC XIII with silver. It is also the only team that has been thoroughly diligent with its practice session. Considering how hard the players are being trained, it looks like Meridell is preparing for every game tactic that the other teams might come up with in AC XIV. Captain Windelle has confirmed the theory. "We are grooming our players to be ready. We want gold, that's all that we care for," he said.

Approach Coach

With three bottom-rung finishes in the last three outings, Team Moltara definitely needs to do some major introspection and analysis if it means to end its public humiliation any time soon. It seems like the management is in agreement as a new 'coach' was hired earlier this year. This is the first instance of a team hiring a professional coach for any AC game.

Far from Glory

Mystery Island's stellar performance in AC XI seems like an eternity away now. The last two years have seen the team far from its best. Agreeing with this sentiment, star player Selmon Woulf said, "There have been speculations that our glory days are over and it isn't hard to see why. To make up for it, we are training extra hard this year and I believe all that hard work is going to pay off."

Lurking Behind

Roo Island continues to lurk in the bottom rungs of the points table. To add insult to injury, the team also got its fair share of criticism again this year for its uniform. "It is unfortunate that our results don't reflect the efforts that we put in as a team. As for our jerseys, they represent who we are and we love them," said Jair Tollet, who plays left-forward for the team.

Bad Blood Boils Over

Team Shenkuu has been in the news lately but it hasn't been for the right reasons. The bad-blood between the captain and player Larcy Phu is well-known but if sources are to be believed, the situation has nosedived and gone further south. Mirsha Grelinek has officially asked for the Grundo's ouster from her team. There hasn't been any confirmation yet.

All Pumped Up

With a podium finish in AC XIII, Terror Mountain is on a high. However, far from letting success get to their heads, the players seem to be working harder than ever before. "We have much more at stake now. More reasons to want to do better. We are pumped," said goalie Minae Mitora.

The Stuff of Legends

The way Team Tyrannia turned its fortunes, took the criticism for its performance in AC XII in its stride and ended AC XIII with gold is the stuff that sporting legends are made of. The fans of the team are impatiently waiting for an encore. It is being rumoured that AC XIV might also be goalkeeper Mor Gollog's last AC outing, giving fans all the more reasons to look out for the team this year.

Let the Game Talk

Team Virtupets takes the phrase 'off-season' quite literally. Defenders Sela Pretore and Weldar Xupenfarb were seen partying into the wee hours of the night at an upscale eatery. When questioned about their preparations for the upcoming AC XIV, they said, "This is the party season. We will answer any questions you have about our readiness on the field. Let our game do the talking."
