2018 Altador Cup Tournament

Press Tour

Below is an archive of the 2018 Press Tour blurbs for each returning team. Thank you to altadorheadcanons on Tumblr for sharing their archive with us!

Dawn of a New Era

AC XII didn't go down well for the hosts in more ways than one. As if finishing the tournament ranked 13th wasn't bad enough, Captain "Trapper" Remis decided to step down right after the tournament for undisclosed reasons. This year, Foltaggio will be leading them from the front. The jury is out on the choice but with the Mynci seen honing his skills with a vengeance like never before, it might be a boon in disguise.

Calm Before the Storm

Team Brightvale couldn't recreate their dream run of AC XI in last year's outing. Talk is rife about a rather heated conversation that took place between the ever-so-concerned King Hagan and the skipper Montecito during a post-tournament game analysis session. It was later laughed off by the Kacheek who even went on to call it 'silly'. The entire team seems unperturbed by their 12th position on the table which begs the question: is this the calm before the storm? What's brewing, Brightvale?

Fan Frenzy

Team Darigan suffered a huge blow earlier this year when their star player Tandrak Shaye pulled out of the crucial practice sessions after suffering an injury. Needless, to say, the fans have gone into frenzy, speculating whether Shaye will recover in time for this year's outing. The team management has refused to reveal what are the odds of him making it for the tournament this year. With Shaye and Shaye-fever out, the other players have found it much easier to concentrate on practice. Smells like clever strategizing?

Positive About the Future

Faerieland's dismal show in AC XII has, once again, given wind to the fan theory about the team's AC XI results being a fluke. When questioned about it, captain Kakoni Worrill said, "I feel like we have let down our fans and they are entitled to their opinions. I am certain, though, that they still have our best interests in mind. We have been practicing really hard this year and are positive of a better outcome in AC XIII."

One Last Time

AC XIII is proving to be a difficult year for the team captains. Krell Vitor of Team Haunted Woods is another captain to be embroiled in a controversy after his team's poor show in AC XII. Vittor [sic] is being accused of being too old to lead the team anymore and is being asked to retire to make way for the younger talents waiting in the wings. Dismissing all this talk as mere rumors, Vittor [sic] has decided to play for one more year to show his mettle. Will he be able to play a captain's knock?

Hat-Trick in the Offing?

The winner's curse is as much a part of the Altador Cup as the teams themselves but every once in a while comes a team that likes to disprove this theory. Kiko Lake is one such team. If their practice sessions are anything to go by, the curse seems to have eluded them. If anything, they appear to be in better form than even last year and look set for a repeat performance. Will it be a hat-trick for Kiko Lake in AC XIII?

All Talk and No Show

After finishing AC XII ranked 5th, the pirates look to be in good shape and in good spirits. They have been busy giving interviews, talking about lifting the cup this year. A rival team member, on conditions of anonymity, said, "This is all talk and no show. For a team as inconsistent as them, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up on the bottom rung. Also, have you seen them on the fields at all? They are everywhere but there. I wouldn't bet my money on them."

Keep 'Em Guessing

Finishing on the second spot in AC XII has ignited a dormant fire in the Kreludor players. Earlier this year, the Team was seen leaving for an undisclosed location to practice. There is a lot of secrecy surrounding their practice matches this year. Our guess is that this is being done to keep their key game tactics a secret. Could there be more secrets that they are keeping? Who can tell? One must give it to Team Kreludor for keeping us all guessing!

Too Much Confusion

Team Lost Desert has been dubbed Team Lost Cause even before this year's tournament has started which is never a good sign. The team management is partly to blame for the state of affairs that the players find themselves in. There is a lot of confusion around the playing five. While some say that the entire team from last year will be made to sit out, others believe it will be a mix of old and new. And then there are some who believe nothing will change. No one has any concrete updates. With such confusion all round, the team's stars do not look bright for this year.

Split Wide Open?

There seems to be a rift in team Maraqua. After last year's spectacular performance, the captain is of the opinion that his team is invincible and is openly picking up fights with anyone too cautious and accusing them of being negative. While the team is displaying unity on the outside, sources say that things are heating up under the surface. Will it hamper their game play and affect their chances in AC XIII?

Meridell Content To Stand Pat

After a couple of top five finishes, Meridell slipped to 6th in last year's tourney. Team Meridell's not panicking, though. "A lot of times, teams overreact in an attempt to reach that next level," defender Ilsa Ellits explained. "They make risky moves for short term gain that not only fail to put them over the top, but also do long term harm. That's not going to be us -- we've got the right scheme and personnel. All we need to do is maintain our focus and keep working to improve our execution. We'll get there."

Putting the Past Behind

Commenting on last year's results in a press conference, Captain Aldric Beign said, "We have put the dismal performances of the past behind us. We have worked very hard on strategizing and actual practice. We are confident about surprising everyone with our performance this year." Let's hope there is some substance to this show of spirit, captain!

Turning the Tide

After a truly inspiring show in AC XI, AC XII turned to be a year of a huge upset for Team Mystery Island. Speaking about the major fall from grace, ardent fans of the team said, "We don't believe in the Winner's Curse and are certain that the team will be able to turn the tide this year and repeat the performance of AC XI." Can they?

Exuberance Overload

After a 10th position finish in AC XII, Team Roo Island is brimming with hope and exuberance. The body language of the team during their practice sessions has been very positive and the playing five look more united than ever before. "While not many are willing to give us a chance at a podium finish yet, I think it's beginning to look more and more likely in AC XIII. We have some surprising moves up our sleeves this year," said Fenny Vail who is being touted as the best player for the team this year.

Rivalry Over Revelry

Does captain cool have a chink in her armor? There are rumors floating of the captain Mirsha Grelinek and team member Larcy Phu not seeing eye to eye. Of course the captain denies them but with Phu known for his dirty play, could there be some truth to it? And if yes, could this rivalry harm their chances this year?

Fishy State of Affairs

Terror Mountain has been in the news throughout the lead up to AC XIII and unfortunately for the snow-dwellers, it hasn't been for good reasons. Buzz was that Rinok Fitel, the Centre defender of the team, had failed one of the crucial tests and therefore, would have to sit out of the tournament. The team management has, however, refuted the rumors and called them baseless. Is there any smoke without fire, we wonder!

Paper Tigers

After their lackluster outing at AC XII, Team Tyrannia has been at the receiving end of criticism from all quarters, be it the experts or the fans. The fans especially have been very vocal about their exasperation with Tyrannia's performance. The team on paper is as solid as it was during its AC XI dream run. It remains to be seen if they can translate that into results this year.

Fun in the Sun

By the looks of it, Virtupets is all set to have a fun outing in AC XIII, thanks to the special stall that the fans have organised for them. A group of die-hard fans of the team has set up a traveling caravan kind of store for the team. Their plan is to distribute free Virtupets merchandise to anyone approaching them within the first hour of them setting shop for the day. The only condition is that these lucky Neopets must than root for Team Virtupets.
