New April Fools Avatar

Today, you may have noticed on Neopets that all of your Neopets are appearing very sad, no matter what you do to cheer them up. There's also an interesting figure on the Neopets.com homepage:
The masked Smile Withme has placed motivational posters across Neopets pages to try and cheer up Neopians such as those below:
If you click the X to close these popups, Smile Withme will arrive to explain his motivations. If you continue to close these popups that can be found while exploring Neopian lands, Smile Withme will appear three additional times, eventually offering you the chance to sign a contract with him. While you can decline, eventually as you keep clicking you will be forced to accept. After doing so, you will be granted a no trade wearable item:
Smile Withme will now update the posters to be much more disurbing:
If you continue to click through them as before, Smile Withme will pop up again, awarding you an avatar:
If you play with the mask in your inventory (it is also a toy), you'll get another interaction where Smile Withme reveals his true identity.
Note: As the item is no trade and the only other reward is an avatar, you can complete this on side accounts.

The “Let Go” and “Cease Thinking”, I mean.

I do think this could be risky. Not everyone is in a good state of mind right now and they don't need a pop up every 5 seconds telling them they know nothing or to cry about it...

I really hope someone will mention to TNT that making light of/joking around about mental health issues is not a good look. I understand wanting to tie into the plot but this is not how it should have gone about. The Warf image is especially shocking, and could be extremely distressing to people that aren’t in a great headspace that might visit Neopets to try and have a safe space to escape to.

There's definitely some secret code on the contract where it says loyalty, right?
Also, they said this plot is supposed to mimic players coming back in real life, so I personally think it's very apt to have depression shown here, I don't think it's making light of it.

The character is reminiscent of "The Snatcher" from "Hat in Time." He also makes you sign a contract 
. I do like the "Let it go" poster - it sounds grim but it's also a good way of saying "Don't let things bother you."

Why are we making a problem out of this. As someone who’s struggled deeply with mental health issues this is not “risky” and I don’t read this as making light of anything.
The Warf photo? Come on, it’s not shocking. It’s dark in a silly way, it’s not graphic or violent..
If these silly “dark” posters honestly upset anyone I say this with love - you need to stay off the internet right now and work with a professional. It’s not that deep. It’s not upsetting. It’s playfully creepy and eerie for the upcoming plot..

i dislike this event . i'm not in a great place and those are all things counselors told me and essentially wanted me to get over my depression . well when life has done nothing but knock me down what am i saposta do just smile. when someone in constant ptsd causing trauma u don't just tell them to smile. i was unaware this event was happening and now i don't feel great. i have been dealing with a lot and thought to get on and feed my pets and maybe get a quest or 2 done i haven't played much in the last few weeks and this isn't helping.then forced to sign a contract feels icky. welp guess i wont be on for a while again.

I've battled my metal health issues for years and I found this event funny, but to each to their own I guess. Personally I loved the creepypasta vibes and think we should be a little less chronically online.

Whoever in charge of this year April fools is an idiot. Seriously, this is something that shouldn't exist mental health wise.
