JN Updates |
The Neopets Metaverse launched early this morning at 1:00 AM NST. As of writing (5:45 PM NST), 3,888 of the 10,000 available for sale have sold.
At time of writing, we at Jellyneo have analyzed the Neopets Metaverse team's cryptowallet, and they currently have a balance of 7,845 SOL, which is worth roughly $1,800,000 USD.
As we reported earlier
, the sale price of each NFT increases
as more of them sell. The first 250 NFTs sold, for example, were available for 1 SOL (~$230 USD), and the 9,751st through 10,000th NFTs that sell will sell for 4 SOL (~$920 USD). With 3,888 sold so far, the price is stuck at 2.5 SOL (~$575) per NFT.
As predicted, when the sale went live at 1:00 AM NST this morning, the cheap NFTs for 1.0 and 1.5 SOL were bought immediately by autobuyers, leaving most of today's stock for humans at 2.0 to 2.5 SOL each.
The sale period only lasts until November 15th (for a total of 3 days). Currently, it is not expected for all 10,000 NFTs to sell out, and as such, the Metaverse team has announced that any remaining stock will be "burned" and simply not made available.
Several hundred of the NFTs (exact number unknown) have been reserved as gifts for the Neopets Metaverse team members, so they will make out like bandits at the end of this, assuming the aftermarket price of each Neopet NFT doesn't tank.
Unfortunately, as part of launch day, a scam on Twitter gained heavy traction. A fake Neopets Metaverse profile was set up and lured in unsuspecting NFT folks interested in the Neopets minting to a fake website that would steal all of the money in their wallet. Twitter finally suspended the profile, but not before the scammers made off with 319.31208822 SOL (~$73,000 USD).
Stay tuned to Jellyneo—we'll keep you updated as the sale progresses and what the final numbers look like on Day 3. Alternatively, if you want to keep up with the more unsavoury aspects of the Neopets Metaverse, check us out on Twitter @jellyneo
, where we post even more (in an effort to keep the frontpage of JN a little less depressing).

You know that old gif of Nathan Fillion at a loss for words?
Insert that here.
I HOPE they take the scam account as evidence that this is hard to do safely and not as money that they coulda made, but man my expectations are low.
Really the ideal end is the profit margin is so low that they don't try this again. I'm a bit terrified that if scam end IS real the team loses enough money to put the site in jeopardy...
All you guys had to do was give us marketable plushies!!

The irony of tnt initially calling this a scam and then there being an actual scam involved is not lost on me.
surprised pikachu face... anyone who thought something like this wouldn't happen was fooling themselves
Dang... I'd say that it's a dumpster fire but it's gotten so worse and said so many times it has lost all meaning. This is truly a disaster.
How surprised is everyone? I'd like to feel sorry for those who bought into it but others have been saying what a nightmare this was going to be...

Seems like most of the buyers have been crypto-bros who have no idea what Neopets is and just want to make a quick buck re-selling. I highly doubt many ACTUAL Neo players bought these things. Maybe a few who are actually rich IRL and just didn't care about wasting money. I'd be willing to bet 99% are crypto-bros.
So the metaverse team will get neopets nfts... funny, that explains why they where so aggresive.
A shame a bunch of kids who doesnt know about neopets wants to made some profit from it, at expense of drama like this happening.
Sooo.. NFTs are bad as is.. but then there are scammers who want in on this scam.. and create a scam of their own? How low do people sink?
So... question... who is gonna buy the Neopet NFT from the NFTers?

It's not like the warning signs weren't there. I'll be surprised if the Metaverse Team even shares that money with TNT.

1,8 million. And I already feel bad when I buy some NC I don't really need. This is gross.

I don't feel a bit sorry for those who got scammed. If you are getting involved in NFT's you are getting involved in scamming so if you get scammed then.. LOL
as much as i want to feel bad for the people scammed, i cant find any amount of care for those that are into NFTs. sucks to suck i suppose.

this is so bad its so funny

The money-laundering operation proceeds as intended.

Unrelated but that Chia police image is so funny for some reason. The faces, the "Chia line", the misery. Whoever picked that image to go with the post, good job
all I can do is just shake my head, not surprised this happened and eye rolling at the Neopets Metaverse team and the real reason why they were pushing this so much, sad
JS is part of the meta team isn't it? Wouldn't it be nice if they hired 3 or 4 people for TNT with their profit.
But I suspect that who will make the most money is not JS but whoever that incompetent person is who was put in charge of running this nft thing. They'll walk away smiling and not feeling bad about some folks getting scammed out of 73 grand US.
What a total non-surprise!
@anomally- I do have have to admit I didn't see the surprise of the scam twitter account, complete with the scam website that really was a twin of the legit except for 2 letters.
Is this normal for nft launches? Or was this just someone (js) hiring the cheapest person they could to do this? Inquiring minds want to know...
The money laundering scheme progresses...oh how I wish the curtains could be pulled away from this to see where this money is actually going....hint it's not Neopets.com...
"What a total non-surprise!"
I am using that line forever, whenever the occasion arises.
So... first ones are bought by ABs and then rest are for staff and then they "burn" rest so it would make their (staff) NFTs "rarer" and make their possession more valuable... and now all they have to find is buyers for them and that crowd..is non existing.
It's really telling that a scam account on Twitter was indistinguishable from the real thing for many.
A fool and his money...
