Neopets: Treasure Keepers

This game has been retired! You may no longer play it in any form. When the game was discontinued, a special Grundo's Warehouse code was issued with some special prizes. You can find details on redeeming it below.

Getting Started

Neopets: Treasure Keepers is an easy-to-play game located on Facebook (as such, it requires a Facebook Account). You take on the role of a shopkeeper in Portal City, an area isolated from the rest of Neopia. When you first start playing, you'll be walked through a tutorial that will teach you the basics of how the game works. It won't teach you everything, however - read on for a more in-depth look!

Your Shop

While playing Treasure Keepers, your shop will become your home base. This is where you'll sell items you obtain on your journeys, receive quests, and heal between your adventures; there are also a number of exclusive achievements connected to your shop. Your shop is also where you can really make your mark - there are plenty of options to customize it to your liking. To learn more about your shop, check out our guide!

Experience, Levels, Skills, and More!

As you play, you'll find yourself earning experience points - you can gain these from exploring adventure boards, completing quests, and selling items. When you reach a certain number of experience points, you'll level up. Different levels can unlock new adventure boards, items in the Shopshop, Quests, and more. For a full list of the levels and what they give you, check out our Level Guide.

When adventuring, you'll also notice that you have certain skills that level up independently of your main level. For a full guide on these, click here. At times you'll find that Petpet companions can help you out when your skills are challenged. If you don't have the proper petpet available, a Luck Point is a great alternative.

The Map

If you want to get anywhere in Treasure Keepers, you'll have to visit the map. (You can access it by clicking the "Map" button on the bottom of your shop.) Here's where you'll need to go to access places like the Money Tree, the Explorer's Guild, and the Adventure Boards.

Quests

The citizens of Portal City depend on your adventuring and shopkeeping skills. They'll often come to you for help, requesting specific items that you can obtain by playing certain adventures. When you get a quest, you'll have to go to a certain map (if it can currently help you with a quest, it'll be marked with a giant exclamation point) and play through it until you've obtained all the items you need. Once you have them all, simply go back to your shop and wait for the person who requested them to return.

Quests are level-based, so when you level up, chances are you will get some new quests. Generally, quests are released in a "series" - a character will have a few small errands for you, and when they're all completed, you'll earn extra rewards. For a full list, check out our Quests guide!

Achievements

Treasure Keepers has well over a hundred different achievements for you to earn - whether you're questing, working in your shop, or just exploring, chances are you're working toward one. While most achievements just give you the satisfaction of a job well done, some will give you codes that can be redeemed on the main Neopets site for prizes! For a full list of available achievements, check out this page.

Redeeming Codes

If you're lucky enough to complete one of the achievements that gives out a code, Katya will be your go-to girl. Achievements that reward you with a code will list the code on the bottom of the achievement alert; it also operates as a link that takes you directly to the redemption page. Once you submit your code, you'll be rewarded with your prizes - these can include Neopoints, items (including some that are exclusively released this way), and even shop upgrades!

Gold, Neopoints and Credits - Oh My!

One of the most confusing things when playing Treasure Keepers is probably the currency situation. Within the game itself, you're earning Gold, which you can then spend in-game on all sorts of things. Gold is not interchangeable with Neopoints, the currency from the main Neopets site, although you can earn Neopoints from certain reward codes. There are also Facebook Credits, which must be purchased with real money on Facebook. A number of items in Treasure Keepers can be purchased using Facebook Credits; while they are not necessary to make your way through the game, they can help you out.

Play Neopets: Treasure Keepers With Your Friends!

If you're lucky enough to have friends on Facebook who also play Neopets: Treasure Keepers, you'll find you have some nice little advantages - certain bonus adventure boards are unlocked based on the number of friends you have who play, and you can also gift special items back and forth (using the "Send Gifts" button at the top in your shop) at no cost. If you're looking to find some fellow players, try checking out our Treasure Keepers discussion area in the forums!
